Exceptional service! 1. Dr. Sara Yee is the best optometrist I've ever seen. My two previous optometrists were top-rated by medical journals and received rave reviews, but after the exam Dr. Yee did, I'm wondering how great they actually were. Sara Yee's exam was so thorough and she explained each thing she was examining and why it was important for my vision/eye health. I felt like I finally understood my vision and the best way to improve my eyesight! 2. Dr. Yee discovered I had never had my eyes examined when dilated and highly encouraged this exam as most people have it done every 2 years. She was immediately upfront that I'd need to wear sunglasses and that I would have distorted vision for 2-3 hours. When I noted I had an ultimate frisbee game in 3 hours, she immediately let me know she'd be happy to have me come back later for that portion of the exam at no extra charge. I trusted her judgement though, and she was right - 3 hours later almost exactly my vision was 100% back to normal and my game went great. Amazing that they would have let me come back to accommodate my needs though! 3. Even though the office was "in network" for Cigna, the reality is that Cigna uses the network established by VSP. So while Cigna considers the office "in network" the office doesn't actually have a relationship with Cigna, only VSP. I did have to pay everything up front, but the ladies at the front desk made sure I had extra copies of everything and told me just how to fill out my medical claim so I would get all the funds to which I was entitled reimbursed. Easiest mail-in claim I've ever filed due to their assistance. 4. This is the best part. Cigna mistakenly sent the reimbursement checks to Broadway Eyeworks instead of to me! I realized this online when I got my statement of benefits by e-mail, called Cigna, and they told me they would "try" to stop payment on the checks if they were not already cashed, but "couldn't do much else." I was extremely frustrated about being out $200 for even longer as I filed my paperwork promptly...but Broadway Eyeworks to the rescue. They left me a voicemail at 7.00 AM the next day --- the same day they received the checks --- to let me know that Cigna reimbursed them by mistake, my account was indeed paid in full, and that they had already cut and mailed new checks to my home address and that I should call them if I didn't get the checks by the next day!!! Sure enough, 24 hours later, a check from Broadway Eyeworks for the full amount was in my mailbox. And this is without me even having made a call to them yet! Spectacular! Do not trust Dr. Mock with your vision care! I have been going to this office for several years unfortunately, my mistake for not seeing an actual opthamologist given the severity of my near-sightedness. On Friday 2/2, I lost vision in part of my eye, as if a gray veil/half moon had been pulled over part of my line of vision. Detached retinas run in my family (dad and brother both had them) and I knew I was at risk due to my near sightedness and family history. I told Dr. Mock this and my symptoms. Not only did he not check my vision first in each eye, which should have been done, as well as other vision testing, he went straight to dilating my eye and told me multiple times that I did not have a detached retina. He mis-diagnosed me with posterior vitreous detachment, which is not serious or considered a medical emergency. I unfortunately took his word for it since he seemed so certain, but Saturday I still had this nagging feeling that it was something worse. I looked up the symptoms of what I was diagnosed with and compared them to retina detachment symptoms and the "veil" was a retina detachment symptom. So I found an opthamologist and set up an appointment for a second opinion the following week since it was the weekend. Turns out it was a retinal detachment, which is considered a medical emergency and should be taken care of ASAP to preserve vision. Had Dr. Mock not been incompetent and at least referred me to an opthamologist that Friday, or the ED, perhaps my vision would be saved to a better quality. I had a procedure done the day of my medical appointment, was referred to a retinal specialist who did the procedure, and he told me that he was optimistic that I would re-gain vision in that eye but that it will never be the same no matter what corrective lens I use. So learn from my mistake, go see an opthamologist for your vision care, save the others for optical sales. read more

I like everything about this place. Staff is friendly and accommodating, Dr's are nice, honest and unassuming. They don't pressure you into buying the high end products, but have a boat load of frames to choose from. Some are pricey, some are not. I always recommend Broadway Eyeworks to my family, friends, and co-workers. I don't understand some of the bad reviews posted, because I have been a long-time customer and I always receive top-notch service. Dr. Rumsey and Dr. Yee are fantastic, and I see one or the other depending on my schedule. Neelam is always so patient and knows my style well enough to select frames that I actually like. When I pick up my glasses, the staff always makes sure I am completely happy with the fit of the frames and the lenses. This is the worst experience I have ever had trying to get eyeglasses. Once they have your money that's when you see the poor customer service and how unprofessional staff is. I would think twice before using them save yourself the head ache. I had to open a dispute with my credit card company. Last year I lost my last pair of glasses and stepped into Broadway Eyeworks 5 days before leaving on a long trip. They not only helped me pick out perfect glasses, they rushed the order (at no cost) and got me two new pairs of glasses before I left. So, when I lost my glasses again and got tired of watching tv or sitting in meetings with my prescription sunglasses on, I called them again. This time I needed an eye exam too. They fit me in with no notice and helped me pick out glasses that I love wearing! No small feat. Now if I can just hang onto these. Best thing? Even without the rush, I got them in less time than the week promised. Be forewarned - these aren't inexpensive specs. If you're looking for good designer frames and a reliable optometrist, this is a great place to go. And btw, they are now on N. I have been seeing Dr. Rumsey for at least four years. I really like working with Dr. Rumsey. She is very personable and makes me feel really comfortable. She is very knowledgeable and has helped me with my eye glasses prescription, as well as many eye health issues like allergies, scratches, broken blood vessels, pink eye... I completely trust Dr. Rumsey with my vision and my eye health and I highly recommend her. The staff is also great. All of the staff can help you pick out the perfect pair of glasses. I get a lot of compliments from complete strangers on my glasses and I tell them that I got my glasses at Broadway Eyeworks. The selection there is amazing. They have a wide variety of styles and the staff will help you find the best look for you. The office is spacious and elegant, yet comfortable. I enjoyed working with Dr. Mock too, who I saw for about 2 years. He gave me a suggestion to help me with eye allergies that has made a huge difference in my life. From my experience, Broadway Eyeworks has it all: Great selection, great service, skilled staff, and wonderful doctors, who are even available on Saturdays! I have had experience with three other Optometrists in Walnut Creek. This was by a long shot the best! Dr. Mock was professional and gave me an excellent accurate exam. My new glasses were the best ever! They were perfect. Lightweight, stylish and durable. I could see better than with any of my previous RX glasses. Suzi Mock was professional. I was never rushed, pressured and all my questions were answered. Broadway Eyeworks was recommended by friends who had been using their services for over 15 years. My glasses needed a small repair and they were available with on the spot service. My only regret is that they don't take my current insurance so I now have to go elsewhere. read more

I have been going to Broadway Eyeworks for about 5 years. With my work schedule, I like that they have Saturday appointments and also that they seem to be able to fit people in pretty quickly. I feel for those who have had billing issues, etc., (especially in the case of the people whose poor dog was injured!) But although I am not surprised to hear stories of problems with receipts and paperwork, I have never personally had that problem there. I generally see Dr. Rumsey, who is great, but during an emergency a few months ago, they fit me in to meet with Dr. Mock. He was extremely accommodating and calmed my worst fears regarding the weird tearing issue I was having with one of my eyes. Because he knew I was just about to travel to Boston, he called me 2 days later while I was on my trip to check on my eye. I don't know about anyone else, but getting a doctor to call me after I have left their office is a rare incident! I would definitely recommend this place! read more

I stopped by Braodway Eye Works as I had heard they had a great selection of frames. They do...but here's the catch! The frames are in glass cases or behind a counter that they do not let you behind. The frames are surrounded by glass and mirrors probably about 6 feet from where you must stand. Talk about difficult to get a good look. After the woman attempted to find something for me, continually asking what do you like", I asked again "Are you sure I can't go behind the counter?". She replied "No, that the frames are placed by brand so they tend to get mixed up if we allow people behind the counter." Hey, I have an idea, how about letting the customer who is probably paying about $800 for frames and lenses to get up close to the frames, try them on with the control freak employee standing by to place them back properly. My experience made me feel uncomfortable provided they obviously did not trust me to have access with their products. I won't be back! read more

Terrible customer service! If you don't want new frames there, they make you sign a waver that says they aren't responsible if they break your frames that you are getting a new prescription of. They will keep badgering you the entire time and take on an attitude if you don't want to buy anything that day. Could you please focus on the eye exam instead of being a sales person? read more

I have NEVER written a poor review for anyone on any website but I've seriously been pushed to the limit. I have been going to a Dr. Mock there for over 14yrs, and have never had a problem aside from the front desk staff being rude from time to time. I went in a few months ago to get a new pair of glasses. I was convinced to try their new progressive glasses, paid $600 and was told that my vision would take some time to get accustomed to the new lenses. I tried to wear the glasses but there was no way that I could function with them on. I went back in and was told to return the glasses and I would be able to get a new pair with the credit for the old glasses ($600). I had an appointment today to get fitted with my new lenses and was told by one of the staff that I would be committing insurance fraud if I were to take new glasses based on the old credit of $600. The lady and I got into an argument because she refused to even listen to what I had to say or honor the facilities promise. Mind you I've been having a problem with this same receptionist for the past 4 years, she is very rude and very short with me and my whole family when she speaks to us. A doctor came out and took over the situation and said that she would talk to the head doctor and let me know what options we have and also let me pick out my new frames. I left a happy customer. I just now got off the phone with the head doctor (Dr. Mock) expecting that my problem would be resolved, instead he was yelling at me saying that I don't pay my balances?? And that I wronged his staff?? For having done business with this man for over 14 years, taking my full family of 5, recommending people at all times AND following the doctor when he switched locations I expected way more on the end of customer service. I am now looking for another optometrist as well as filing a claim for my $600 because the good ol' doctor Mock has decided to pocket the money and has decided that he will mail me the old pair of glasses that do not work for me at all. He has not even tried to reimburse me for the $600 I wasted in his office. DO NOT GO HERE!! You will regret it and mark my words the staff is extremely rude and acts as though you're bothering them rather than keeping their job afloat. This same complaint will be posted on the BBB website along with any other action necessary for this issue to be resolved. read more

I went to Broadway Eyeworks because I was impressed with their frame selection. After I had my eyes examined I was assisted with choosing a pair of frames. Since I needed progressive lenses the frame size was quite important in the selection process. I was assured by the assistant that the frames I selected would work well with my prescription. Dr. Mock told me he didn't think my selection would work, so he suggested I try wearing them and return them if I wasn't happy. I returned a week later and agreed that I should select another frame which I might add was an additonal $200. I also had nose pieces added for comfort (at an additonal $75). Unfortunately I had difficulty seeing with the new glasses. When I told Dr Mock, he said they had to adjust the prescription to fit the new frames. This greatly limited my range of vision. He then said I shouldn't have selected these glasses and when I said I had been assured the frames would work he said they did; just not in the way that I wanted! He then said he would sell me a THIRD frame at half off and would then charge me HIS cost for new lenses. Now were talking a THIRD pair of frames and of course I am again asked to pay for them. When I checked with my VSP insurance plan they said I would not be CHARGED! But Dr. Mock was going to charge me anyway. Also the earpiece on the second pair broke after 2 months. I was first told that nothing could be done. When I checked with the manufactuer they said that I had to work through the the office where I bought the frames, so then Dr. Mock charged me another $100 to replace the ear piece! In total I spent over $850 and that's after VSP paid their share. This is a situation that went from bad to worse and which I had no control over because I needed a pair of glasses and once I started the process with Dr. Mock I couldn't end the vicious cycle. UNLESS YOU HAVE UNLIMITED FUNDS YOU PROBABLY WON'T BE ABLE TO AFFORD THIS PLACE. STAY AWAY!! I make sure that all of my friends stay clear of this place!!! read more

if i was rating dr yee alone i would give 5 stars. however, this review is based on my last visit to BEO. i showed up for my appointment for dr lee only to be told that she was ill. i have quite a tricky eye prescription so i was not pleased that they did not call me in advance to reschedule. under the gun & due to time constraints i saw the owner, not sure what his name is. so, had the exam which was fine. got a pair of trial lenses and on my way out i asked if he could please tighten the frames on my glasses as they had become loose. long story shortened - he melted my glasses! completely ruined them. i didn't notice until i got home (had the trial lenses in). it was coming up to a holiday weekend - i had no back ups and they made no effort to give me/pay for a new pair of glasses. i'll mention here that i am blind w/o out glasses -there is no getting by w/o. the owner blamed the situation on the glasses (from costco). when i went to costco they said, it's pretty much universally understood that you only heat glasses briefly to tighten bc ...um, they MELT!! i had to buy new glasses (200+ due to my prescription) while i waited for costco to replace (wonderful customer service!) my glasses free of charge. BAD, horrible customer service here...not to mention the trials lenses were not the correct prescription either!! how is he in business? read more

Both hubby and I had our eyesight checked here by Dr.Liane Rumsay. We've always got them checked in India and this was our first visit to the optometrist here in the United States. Dr. Rumsay did a very thorough examination. She used eye drops on us for dilation before the check up. She explained every procedure patiently before she actually performed them. Having got my eyes checked every year ever since I was 7, I am very impressed by this Doctor. She made me feel very comfortable throughout the check up. We also ordered our glasses here. They got ready in about two weeks time and I believe this is pretty good considering that we ordered high index glasses of pretty high power. We were lucky that we called in and got an appointment for the same day. Each appointment lasts about 45min, so there's no point in showing up without an appointment. The service was pretty decent and we are very happy with the quality of the glasses. The frames and the lenses come with warranty. The only qualm I have is that my appointment was at 3.45 and by the time I chose my glasses it was closing time and the sales woman seemed a bit in a hurry. I had to tell her that, I would have to come back later if she were in a hurry because I couldn't choose something this expensive in a hurry. She understood immediately and helped me pick my pair without hurry. Overall, it was a pretty good experience with Broadway Eyeworks. read more

I can't believe any business would allow such rude employees to stay employed! Every time I call for anything, I get such rude and condesending attitude from the staff, that I have no intention of returning. The doctors may be good, but they aren't the ones who get the customers to return. Let's face it, they are really in the retail business of selling hideously overpriced glasses. If you want me to part with $500-$600 for a pair of glasses...you should at least treat me as a valued customer! I went for the 1st time a few days ago. Nothing fancy. Had my eyes checked adn all was well. They actually told me not to continue to wear the reading glasses I'd been prescribed a few years ago. The doctor was nice as were the office staff. it's a little different because there isn't the traditional waiting room, but instead you wait in the lobby which is more of a showroom for different frames. Overall, it's a nice place. read more

This is a shout out for Christine at BEO Walnut Creek. She did a great job for me and my wife, including processing insurance claims and securing an unexpected $50 each lens rebate. Our prescriptions were from another optometrist, so I can't comment on the BEO doctors, but I can say that Christine was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, courteous and cooperative. And the price was very reasonable, after insurance, for designer frames. There are some negative reviews on here, but they didn't meet Christine! read more

I cannot speak highly enough about Broadway Eyeworks! I have Keratoconus and went in for a specialty contact lens fitting with Dr. Rumsey. She was so thorough and made me feel right at home. But that's not what I am so impressed with. While I was there we talked about my previous visit to my ophthalmologist and how I have not had luck finding a doctor that does a procedure I need that is covered by insurance. I got a call later in the day from Dr. Rumsey saying she had called my ophthalmologist to talk about my case, and while the ophthalmologist does not do the procedure covered by insurance he is going to take another look to see what they can do to help. After I talked to Dr. Rumsey about her conversation, she said she was more than happy to fit me with the specialty lenses but really recommended that I continue to look for a doctor that will do the procedure covered by insurance AND even offered to help me look for a specialist. I was already SO impressed by her, but then she told me that they were going to refund me my copay since we are going to look for a specialist! I have never been to any business, let alone a doctor, that is as willing to help as much and is as proactive as Dr. Rumsey. With the eye condition I have I've been to more optometrists then I can count, and even though the office is quite a ways from my home I would not hesitate to battle the SF traffic to see Dr. Rumsey and Broadway Eyeworks. Can't recommend them enough! read more

I have been coming to Broadway Eyeworks for a couple of years. I really like Dr. Rumsey, she is thorough and pleasant and I've been very happy with her. However on my last visit, when I went to select glasses, the young lady helping me was pretty rude. I dropped over $400, I expected to be treated with more respect. She gave me incorrect information and someone from the office called me later to confirm I was right. No apology. Be sure to check your insurance closely, they may overcharge.The glasses are very expensive here, very nice selection but expensive, so I would recommend with reservations. read more

Worst service ever! It sounds weird but In retrospect I think it is possible that she was intentionally snubbing me. I can't think of any other explanation for her incredibly rude behavior.First I arrived while the person at the desk was on the phone. She held up one finger to indicate to me to wait. Okay, 10 minutes later I had looked over every set of glasses in the store and she was still on the phone. Another customer walked in and without a glance in my direction she hung up and started helping her. That customer was just picking something up so I can understand her intention might have been to quickly help that person and then move on to me. She was very helpful to that customer. The pickup got complicated. Ten minutes later she finally turns to me. No apology, no smile. She could not have been less helpful. I tried on a few pairs of glasses and left. The only explanation I could come up with is that I was dressed quite casually(especially for Walnut Creek). If you want a better selection and much much better service try Focal Point in Berkeley. read more
