The nosepiece of my glasses came apart, and after suffering for a week, I decided to get fixed. Saw this place down the street from me, and came in on a random Wednesday morning. I was greeted warmly by the front desk receptionist, and after I told her what I needed, she seated me right away to wait for the optician. She was friendly and very helpful, even though I didn't have an appointment. The optician came right Pitt after I waited a minute, and after looking at my glasses, told me she can fix it! Took her about 5 minutes to do a beautiful job of replacing the nose piece. Had me try my glasses on to make sure it sat well. She was also very friendly, and told me she waived the fee. I found Lafayette Optometric Group through a frame brand's website and decided to visit to see what they had in stock. I was able to book an appointment by calling them directly. Once there, I was able to look over their selection and was also recommended 10 other frames that might suit my face. Customer service was great and I got my two frames with prescriptions in about 2.5 weeks. It was overall a straightforward and easy experience! I drive from up North to Lafayette every year just for my exam! Dr. Zheng really knows how to dial in a prescription for unique needs! For my first pair of glasses I required progressive lenses with each eye needing slightly different correction. I have an astigmatism as well. Prior to going to Dr. Zheng I went to two "specialists" and ended up spending over a thousand dollars on specialty glasses. Unfortunately I was still having issues with dynamic and fast movement, delays to focus at different distances and quick changes. Tracking moving objects were just a blur. He explained it would probably take a few prescriptions, one each year ti really dial it in. My first pair of glasses was already SO much better than either of the two from the previous optometrists. The 2nd year it was even better, I thought it was about as good as it gets and I was totally happy, but I was wrong the 3rd year he said things were stabilizing and a slight change would really help me focus faster. When I got my new glasses he was right again!! Moving objects, fast changes in depth perception and ability to focus back and forth from near to far was much improved!! I chose to visit this establishment based on the solid YELP reviews. Although I found the people who work here warm and friendly, my experience with this establishment proved disastrous and expensive. My eye exam: I was told, "I'm excited! I've never worked with your kind of eye challenge before. It will be fun to experiment with your prescription!" Since my condition may lead to not being able to see in one eye, I was hoping to be met with a professional bedside manner. My optometrist was sweet and likable, just obviously not experienced - as she herself pointed out. No wonder the prescription she handed me was wonky. If my prescription had come out okay and not strange and completely unusable, I would have not minded her unprofessionalism. But what a mess... The lab itself: I ordered gradient lenses. The glasses handed to me were a full-on tint. Nobody had bothered to notice they were wrong. I was charged 65 dollars, however, for "the doctor checking to make sure your glasses were correct." But they were NOT correct - in two ways! I did receive a refund for the incorrect lenses by snail mail check eventually when I decided this place was just too unprofessional. But not for the sixty-five dollars. btw, most establishments don't even charge money to check if one's glasses are correct. Another ? My hubby's experience: My husband was planning to purchase frames and have glasses made. He already had a prescription. But he changed his mind when asked to sign a strange waver that turned the usual warrantee into only a partial warrantee. In all our experience with private optometry businesses over the years, we have never been asked to give back 35-45 dollars on a warrantee and to sign a waver. He passed. In the end, I just found a solid and experienced optometrist to check my eyes. I was told my prescription only needed slight tweaking. This more experienced optometrist threw away my weird prescription and went back to what works. Two weeks later, his lab had my gradient lenses ready to go. Both pairs of glasses I ordered were perfect. This re-do eye check was out-of-pocket for me since I'm only insured for one visit a year. Add to that the strange 65-dollar charge for actually getting my lenses WRONG, trying out this business proved a seriously bad choice. RE-REVIEW: Why do I pay a little more than Costco or Kaiser for my eye wear needs? Read on! Ok so I've now had three pairs of glasses made by LOG and my friends and family wonder "Why don't you get it through Costco or Kaiser?" as I'm a member at both. To put it simply, I was sold the first time I visited this office based on the Yelp reviews back a few years ago. True, I would save a little more money on buying frames, lenses, "free" this and that, etc. from them, but hands down LOG's after sales services and ***convenience*** is far and above better than Costco. So I recently took a trip to Taiwan and Hong Kong and needless to say, traveling lends itself to having your eye glasses open to getting jostled from your hands and treated a bit more roughly than sitting at a desk for 8-9 hours. During the trip, I dropped my glasses several times and the most annoying abrasions and scratches developed right in the middle of the right eye (my worst eye). It literally drove me crazy during the last few days. When I got back I called Dr. Zhang and he said "No problem, just bring them in. You have a 2 year warranty on the anti-reflective coating." I totally forgot about this. 2 years. Yes, 2 years warranty on the anti-reflective coatings. If my recollection is correct, Costco and Kaiser is only 1 year. So I came a few days later and dropped off the frames. Unlike Costco, I didn't have to fight for parking and wait in a long line to get taken care of. Unlike Kaiser, I didn't have to wait 2 weeks for an appointment. Fast forward to last night: Almost 2 weeks later, I received my glasses. 2 weeks seems like a long time, but when100% of those scratches and abrasions are G.O.N.E., it's worth the wait. And FREE. As in covered! I'm one happy customer and this is why I just had to re-review. Oh and in case you're wondering, I do have a pair of backup glasses which I also purchased here out of pocket for a very reasonable price. Well, technically nothing, except the fact that Dr. Melissa Ngo (pronounced "No") works here. Get it? Dr Ngo...Dr. No... Recently, I noticed my eye sight wasn't as sharp as it used to be. After some pondering and coming to grips of my age, I decided to schedule an appointment with Lafayette Optometric Group to have my eyes checked. The appointment was for today, December 12, 2016, at 11:30am. I arrived at the office at around 11:10am and parked my car in the small parking lot on site. I was greeted promptly by Shazib the optometry technician upon entering. He was very polite and asked me to fill out a couple questionnaires prior to seeing Dr. Ngo. The office appeared very clean and professional. Eyeglasses from different manufacturers were displayed prominently on one side of the office. On the other side, there were several exam rooms and offices. After I finished my questionnaires, Shazib took me to one of the rooms and performed a couple pre-exam exams. The machines used looked very new. He explained each step to me clearly and assured me that I wouldn't experience any discomfort. Following the pre-exam exams, I was led to another room for another series of exams. Dr. Ngo came in and spent the first ten minutes or so going through my medical history with me. She was pleasant and professional and the information she presented was very helpful. During the exams, she would explain what she's about to do before each step. The instructions were clear and easy to understand. After about a half an hour or so, the exams were done, and I was led to Elise the optician. Elise, much like Dr. Ngo, was very pleasant. The first thing she did was explaining my vision plan benefits to me. She then presented information on all the frame options and helped me pick out one that I like. After confirming the availability of my frame choice, she broke down the cost so that I knew exactly how much I would have to pay. She told me my new eyeglasses will be ready in two weeks. Before leaving the office, Dr. Ngo performed one last exam on my eyes since they were dilated earlier. After she cleared me, I went to the front counter to pay my bill. I opted to pay the full amount, but other payment options are available. To sum it up, the friendly and professional staff at Lafayette Optometric Group made my visit today an excellent one. Normally, I don't like going to any medical-esk offices but today was an exception. I felt very comfortable with everything they did. End of employment = time to use those vision benefits! Because my insurance ends in just 3 days - I was in the Bay Area visiting my family and I needed to find someplace fast! Boy was I glad to have stumbled upon this GEM, it instantly felt like home. Here's some info for my Fellow yelpers: Parking- meter parking is never an option... Why? Because they have a FREE parking lot! #winning especially when you are running late for an appointment.. am i right or am i riiiiighh? Layout - I am ALL about presentation! Cleanliness is a B I G thing for me, especially with anything going into my eyeball. The counters, chairs, floors were all clean :) WHOOO HOO finally a practice that cleans up after themselves and their patients - extra points for it being the end of the day! The waiting room was neat and they even had Christmas decor.... which I am a complete sucker for especially when it is after Christmas! As I looked around the office, I really liked how it was an open space and that I could instantly tell that the show room was to the left and the exam rooms were to the right. No Maps or Signs needed here HONEY. Staff - as I mentioned before it felt like home. I was greeted by Dr. Ngo herself with a big smile and with a genuine welcome. I was the last appointment of the day (also 30 minutes late), and I still felt like a valued patient. Dr. Zheng was very patient and thorough with my eye exam and didn't rush me at all! Even for someone like me who does not need prescription glasses, I knew he wasn't only seeing me for the big $$, he actually took the time to explain and answer all questions! Equipment - because I am a very curious person (as my fiance would call it) i like to ask all questions, even if it doesn't pertain to me. Dr. Zheng carefully explained to me what each machine was assessing and what the results meant. All equipment was up to date and they even explained why they chose that specific equipment. What I absolutely loved about this office was that they had all the PRE eye exam tests all in one room! No more switching rooms after the use of every machine and the possibility of leaving your phone/purse behind. I just hate it when things are not orderly and are not in a good flow and when I have to go in and out of exam rooms. Maybe I'm a little high maintenance but this practice did it's job - was consistent, efficient and fast! Left me a very satisfied patient! I booked an appointment with Dr. Frank Zheng after hearing high praise for him from multiple people. I was not disappointed in the least as he absolutely lived up to the high standards and expectations they set. Dr. Zheng is extremely thorough, friendly, and professional. After my dilated eye exam he patiently explained the results and answered all of my questions with great care and detail. His responses were thoughtful and his suggestions were all considerate. It was the best eye appointment I've ever had and I plan to continue being his patient for years to come. The office and staff at LOG were all great as well. Their medical papers/forms for first time patients are all available to complete online so I was able to do it from the comfort of home well before my appointment. When I arrived, the staff was welcoming and friendly. They were also extremely conscientious of proper COVID safety protocols and did a great job sanitizing the office and exam rooms which allowed me to relax knowing the environment was safe and sanitary. After getting my prescription the woman who helped me pick out my new glasses was helpful, patient, gave great suggestions based on my taste, and was never pushy or aggressive. To be clear, I did not use their service for the reason shown here. I made an appointment for vision exam for contact lenses. Before confirming it, I asked for their price for my visit. The receptionist could only give a range of prices and they can't tell the exact price until I see them. Hmm? I have been on contact lenses for 30 years and all of my optometrists could tell me how much they charge (usually, an extra cost for dilation). And at their possible highest price, my out of pocket charge would be pretty high, near $200. Also, the receptionist asked me if I speak another language. I took my entire family to see Dr Zheng and his staff for the first time a few months ago. We all were treated extremely well. Dr Zheng's staff walked us through a fantastic selection of frame and lens options to get the most out of our experience. I've worn glasses most of my life and have been to a variety of optometrists. I can honestly say this office was was one of the best I've ever been to. To top it off, a few weeks ago my prescription got run over by a car (Long story) and completely destroyed or so I thought. I called the office and was given a price for a replacement pair which of course wouldn't be covered by my insurance because they were so new. Dr Zheng reached out and asked me to send the damaged glasses back to him so he could "look at them". Imagine my surprise when he contacted a few days later and said he had repaired them. They're almost as good as new and will serve me well until my insurance kicks back in. His staff is friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I can't recommend them any higher. Dr Melissa Ngo was very patient and accommodating, did not rush me to make a decision, ensuring that I was comfortable with the prescription she was going to give me. I recently had an appointment with Dr. Zheng for a routine eye exam. Their waiting area was pleasant and the staff was very friendly, genuine, and hospitable. I can't remember the name of the individual who helped with the first part of my exam but she was pretty awesome. I tend to feel a lot of anxiety going into any doctor's office so this was a welcome change. I met with Dr. Zheng shortly after and our encounter was pretty surprising. He took his time to hear what some of my concerns were in regards to my vision, and then explained to me what was going on in plain English (an art that many docs seem to have trouble with). He introduced me to some of his staff on my way out including those I would be meeting at my next appointment for glasses. Dr. Melissa Ngo and Dr. Frank Zheng are a husband and wife optometry Wonderteam. I actually met them at a Yelp Elite event where we suffered from a butt-kicking spin class in Berkeley. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that their practice is within walking distance of where I live. I actually scheduled an "emergency" annual eye appointment. I had just gotten laid off and I had to use my VSP insurance before I lost it. My own optometrist was unable to see me so I called Lafayette Optometric Group. I first saw Dr. Zheng for the first appointment and then I saw Dr. Ngo when I came back to get my eyes dilated. They took the time to address my concerns and I didn't feel rushed. My eyesight is pretty bad. I'm embarrassed to wear my extremely thick glasses. I had several discussions with them about laser surgery and they were so knowledgeable about possible options and gave me a point by point run down of what could possibly happen. Until I moved to Southern California a few months ago, I was a patient of Dr. Robert DiMartino and his team for over 30 years. Dr. D. was amazing, but moved on to a teaching role in Boston a few years back. At first I thought I was never going to be as lucky to have another eye doctor that was as smart, proficient AND caring as he was, but was I wrong. Dr Frank Zheng picked up where Dr. D left off. For the last few years, I have been privileged to be Dr. Zheng's patient. He achieves a level of patient care that all doctors should strive for, but relatively few (at least in my experience) attain. Being willing to explain, to the limits of my ability to understand, the technical issues concerning my eye health, being willing to come into the office on his day off to see me for what might have been an emergency, and being willing to call me (also on his day off) to discuss a condition and refer me to a specialist after I had moved away - all of these actions are the signs of a great doctor. It should be noted that all of the staff that I have encountered in this office over the years have been courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you Dr. DiMartino for building such a great team, and Dr. Zheng for carrying on with exceptional care, in every sense of the word.
