I rarely write bad reviews but I have never witnessed such incompetence as what was happening at the Nederlander. So people show their ID and vaccine cards and go in and make it over to the will-call area if they need to. Do yourself a favor and just go in the door to the West of all the other doors. There were 3 windows and no lines. It was just a cluster of people trying to tell other people that the line starts in the middle and spirals out like a conch shell. Yes, I kid you not. That is not possible for obvious reasons. What kind of incompetent people are running things?? Common sense would look something like one line for each window meeting a line that goes out the door next to the will-call area. Rub a couple brain cells together people. So it was just a lot of angry people. There was also no real spiral anyway, not surprisingly, so people were probably just cutting in everywhere. It is unfortunate when a company like this takes over managing multiple theaters downtown because then you have to deal with their idiocy repeatedly. If you need to pick up your ticket, do it hours before the show because it is so not worth the hot mess that it turns into right before start time. Also, once you get your ticket you need to go back outside and wait in line again to show your ID and vaccine card that you already showed someone. Security is also a waste of time and money because all they do is shine a light in your purse. So you can keep whatever you want in your pockets, jacket, and zippered compartments in purses and no one cares. It makes no sense. I also already discussed with someone in management at the theater about how some of their shows do not show a will-call option. You cannot force people to use mobile tickets only, as many may not have the type of device they would need for it. It is the job of a box office to make sure you can get the ticket you paid for. It is a discriminatory policy that keeps out older and low-income people who lack access. It also holds up the line when people cannot access their mobile tickets and the box office unexpectedly has to print them out. Their written policy that says they will not print your tickets also contradicts the Ticketmaster policy saying that all box offices will and the correspondence with their customer service agents about the whole issue. They need to get together and figure out what their actual policies are because what is in writing is what matters. This whole situation is what happens when you cheap out and do not want to pay for good management.

Broadway in Chicago -. Theater notification performance cancellation. The disturbance was two employees it got shot at the theater

I've never had any issue dealing with obtaining tickets via Broadway in Chicago. Best advice - make sure you have a flak jacket and medical insurance when going into the Loop to see a Broadway in Chicago performance. In addition to ticket prices, paying over $30 an hour for parking, worrying about getting carjacked on the way to from a theater, you have to worry about getting shot in the loop and having a performance mysteriously canceled because of a so-called "disturbance" This is what happened when we went to see Moulin Rouge and two theater employees were shot at the theater & the performance cancelled. Lots of great entertainment at the theaters in the loop however we won't be back until it becomes safer. Businesses need to step up and pressure the mayor & the state's attorney who obviously is not doing her job keeping the people they serve safe. The amount of crime in the Loop and on Mobbed Mile is ridiculous.

When we first arrived, upon checking our tickets, our tickets wouldn't scan/verify. The usher was getting frustrated with us for this, and made us go to the ticket booth to get our physical tickets. We showed the person the tickets on our phone, and she printed them out for us -- after several rounds of confusion on her part. She was so soft spoken (in a noisy theatre entrance) that it led to much confusion. After this, we had to "cut" back into the entrance line (the security guard was helpful here) and we got thru the gates, finally. Then this usher/ticket checker who scanned our tickets (the 2nd time) was literally yelling at us on which direction to go (not a yelling as in being loud, but yelling like we were stupid). I go the way he yells at me because he won't stop yelling at me to go the direction he points me in -- which is the wrong direction. We had orchestra seats and were headed there, but this usher/ticket checker was yelling at us to go up the stairs. Fine, maybe I'm wrong. We get upstairs, and the 2nd usher again points us in the wrong direction to go further upstairs. This is again incorrect. We are flustered and confused, and not sure what is going on. We finally reach the 3rd usher at the top of the stairs, and he finally points us in the correct direction. The ushers here (Sans the 3rd one) were incompetent and rude.

OUT OF THIS WORLD. Every single voice was powerful, soulful, and straight-up gave chills. You could feel the emotion in every note--gospel, R&B, soul... it was hitting on ALL levels. The costumes were a whole moment! Bright, bold, colorful, and creative--every scene felt like a visual celebration. Just beautiful to watch. And the dancing?? Whew! High-energy, sharp, and so fun. The choreography had the whole audience locked in--you can't help but move in your seat! This show is just FUN. It's vibrant, uplifting, and full of life. From the music to the movement to the storytelling, it pulls you in and doesn't let go. You walk out smiling, feeling good, and maybe even a little inspired. If you get the chance to see it--GO. Somehow, I learned about a children's production presented through their educational wing. I'm not sure if their education & engagement was this strong in years past or perhaps I simply wasn't dialed into their offerings, but that's definitely changing now. We went to see Splish Splash. This was a 50 minute long story about a blue heron and friends who are seeking to repair the moon after it fell into Lake Michigan. There were songs, there was play, and it was highly interactive. The kids--fellow "sailors", along with three of the cast members--learned a song to sing along at various parts of the show. There were several times when the kids were invited onto the "stage" (it was in one of their lab/classroom spaces, so there wasn't a raised stage) to help or participate. It was so well done, and kept the kids engaged. I really loved how this experience was designed. Upon arrival we were checked in and pointed to one of the classroom spaces. I was surprised because I wasn't sure how actors could be safe there, but it was actually a room for the kids to color and read books or play with toys and stuff before we were taken into the room where the performance took place. I've only seen something that was meant to keep kids busy like that before showtime is at Filament Theatre, and we've gone to kids shows at two or three other theaters by now. It was a great touch. This production was specifically geared toward children aged 0-5, which is atypical and felt so special that it was written with the littlest theatergoers. One of the important pre-show reminders was for adults, reminding us that it's a no-shush zone! I'm so excited that one of the most important theaters in the city, and the oldest non-profit theater still in operation in Chicago, is so committed to developing young audiences in an exciting way and meeting them where they're at. We'll be regulars at their Theatre for the Very Young programs.

I was reminded of the same issues I mentioned in my earlier review, issues that persist after almost a decade. Like many theatres, they make you wait outside (in this case, in the cold), while they get the theatre ready. Maybe they don't want to pay for the workers to be there for too long beforehand? It makes for a crappy experience. You are then funneled inside while security guards bark orders at you, even when all you're doing is trying to find your way inside in a polite manner. Luckily, the guard in our line was nice enough and joked around with the kids. The lobby is tiny, unlike the other major theatres downtown, so that is something to be aware of. There's really zero room to breathe, and the intermission bathroom line snakes up from the basement into the bar line. Luckily, I got there earlier on, but that's a bad experience. The bathrooms aren't that nice, sadly, and they could use extra care. There are a lot of stalls that don't lock, don't have purse hooks attached anymore, etc. Worse yet, the attendants are on a power trip, though they're not quite as mean as others in similar theatres, and the line moves quickly. I just don't appreciate them yelling "up against the wall!" It's a bit much. The orchestra seats were pretty comfortable and even have good sight lines for short people! From what I saw, the snacks weren't as expensive as one might imagine, though not cheap. Frustratingly, there is no public wifi here. What year is it?
