Do.not.use.this.place I went here to drop off some laundry. No one works at the front - instead you're supposed to talk to the guy watching law and order in the back. Could've used some signage but fine. He said to just leave it on the counter. Okay - I figure I'll just come back and they'll recognize me. Cool and casual. I come back, two days later to give them plenty of time, and I'm told my laundry was thrown out. It's my fault that I didn't know I had to go next door and leave my number with the gas station. I wasnt told this and there are no signs telling you what to do. They tell me that they can get the clothes out of the dumpster and wash them. Fine, I believe in second chances. I leave my number next door and head out. They don't call me the next day like they said they would. I call both numbers listed and they don't answer. I drive back there, go straight to the gas station and ask for my clothes. 35 dollars for what couldnt have been more than 14 pounds of clothes( they advertise 99c a pound). I don't even bother disputing what should've been a freebie or discount after all the hassle. Bonus : my clothes were being stored in a dirty locked bathroom, and the guy working the laundry wasn't wearing a mask the first time I came in - so I might as well get them all cleaned again. read more

I have to say, it's hard to rate the Washateria, how do you give a star rating as long as the machines work, the dryers dry, and you're clothes don't come out shredded. It's not the stores responsibility who visits the place. It may have some control of how much capacity it has to cool a room filled with driers. But after that it's mostly, are the machines maintained, and are the machines cost effective and open. I have to give a big thumbs up to this place because it is 24 hour. (Nope, a period isn't enough, triple exclamation point- !!! - that's what that deserves.) Big Thumbs Up On Being 24 Hour!!! Also the machines are pretty new, and that's good, and they have multiple settings beyond HOT - WARM - COLD, like hot, warm, and cold - delicates; as well as extra wash or extra rinse or both. The dryers are big, and maybe too big, because if you have a 2 load wash, (also nice because most places don't have the small 2 load machines, the dryer size is almost comically oversized. And I think I waste money using them. Also - they need an attending person there to monitor behavior. Especially later at night. I think a homeless dude was doing some tiny loads 1 at a time to find a place to stay the night, he took a nap on the table, and I think this was his shelter from the cold light rain. He did seem to get booted out at some point, but I don't know if he was kicked out by management or a customer or he just ran out of quarters. But other than the sleeping on a table, he wasn't bothering anyone. One more thing, because it is so convenient/the only option for those who work late, and need something cleaned by tomorrow, at midnight, it's still packed with people, and I wish they had a way to assign people to different machines, because it can be hectic where you have to use 3-4 solo machines that are spread out all over the store and monitor that if you are doing a load it's not opened or messed with. I was kind of hovering between the machines I found open, because I didn't want what happened to me at another store where someone added bleach to my underwear load de-dying all the color out of them In the end, this is now my go to washmat for Galveston 24/7, and late night place, if I miss last load times in the Clearlake/Texas City area. One wish - some guidance on how long the dryers take could really help, it's hard to tell if they are done in 30 mins or 45, or 1:00 hour. Also, number them so you can remember what machines to check, knowing that you are in 10, 15, 17, and 34 would save some anxiety when you are seeing someone pull a load out next to or where you thought your load was, and also, you won't miss a machine that you forgot about. Also, some kind of assignment system might save an otherwise open machine from sitting holding a wet load for 3:00 hours while the user forgets about it. I don't understand why the reviews are so good at this place. It's very dirty. I started my laundry and once it was too late I realized someone had the bleach part of the washer full and I was so worried all my laundry would be ruined. Fortunately it was not. The man working there was very nice. I almost didn't even want to put my dirty clothes in these machines, but I had no choice. There are lots of washers and dryers available ranging from small to large, so all prices are different. I think the most expensive load costs almost 5 bucks? but it's huge. I don't want to give a unfair review since I haven't had to go to a laundry mat for many years, but gross.... read more

This place is dirty and gross. The washing machine smelled so putrid I really struggled to put my clothes in it. There were no other options available as we were traveling through on vacation, but I would avoid this place if possible. It's in major disrepair. Lots of loiterers outside, as well. read more

The washers always stink and leak. The dryers don't even work half the time. ALL the machines will try to eat your quarters. They only accept quarters which gets really annoying considering their machines charge $5-7. Most importantly there's always 1-3 older men in there sitting around watching TV and they're constantly making women uncomfortable by asking personal questions and staring, even when the women ignore them. They've even leaned over the folding tables and just stared as me and other women put clothes in the dryers. I've asked the one who is always there if he works there and he said no but whenever there's a problem with the machines he tries to help me. He also has no respect for personal space, I've had to repeatedly step away from him because he gets so close that we'd be touching if I didn't move. Not only will I not return, I'll be warning people (especially women) to stay away. read more
