Doctor Broderick came highly recommended from a friend and fellow dog parent with many long lived dogs and cats. I've aspired to have a capable, experienced, caring veterinarian with a strong traditional education, but tempered with a holistic approach. My (papillon) dog Big is 11.5 years old, and he tore his CCL. Doctor Broderick and his staff was informative and supportive from the moment I brought Big to his appointment. Although it was a major surgery for my older dog, I felt like much less of a basket case on the day of the surgery than I thought I'd be. Doctor Broderick inspires confidence. The surgery apparently went very well and Big is on the road to recovery. Prior to the CCL surgery, I've had Big's teeth cleaned at Dr. Broderick's office and I've changed his diet, utilizing Cornucopia and other supplements. I'm glad nutrition is an important part of Doctor Broderick's approach to the long term well being of his patients. Having my beloved dog in Doc's care puts me at ease. Having been a dog parent for 35 years, I wish Doctor Broderick had been the veterinarian for all my dogs and cats. I feel very fortunate to know him and that he practices so close to my home. What a Quack! Know so many People who brought in their pets there. If you don't buy his food sooner or later your pet Will come down with a "rare"! Disease that will take thousands of dollars to fix and at the end your dog will be dead and you will be stuck with a ridiculous bill. Stay away if you love your pet! read more

Dr Broderick's food has tremendously improved the vitality, energy and wellbeing of my 1 year old cat. His food is worth the investment.

I'm not sure how my wife found Dr. Broderick, but she brought two of our cats to him and then Charlie, our shepherd / airedale mix to him as well. Each time my wife took our animals home, she was given, and charged for, the Cornucopia Phyto/Super food supplements. I considered them to be bill padding and they were expensive. At least for a while my wife added these supplements to the animals food. About a week after seeing Dr. Broderick, Charlie collapsed and we (wife, 2 children and myself) rushed him to his clinic. We assumed that it was a stroke or heart attack and although Dr, Broderick couldn't be certain what was the cause, it was clear that Charlie had to be put down. He was laboring to breath and could barely move his head. Dr. Broderick injected Charlie in the leg to put him to sleep. A few minutes later he injected Charlie again and then a few minutes later a third time. Each time Charlie whimpered but didn't die. My wife is a Nurse Practitioner and she suggested injecting Charlie closer to the heart because of his obviously compromised circulation. Dr. Broderick used a long needle and injected directly into Charlie's heart (or so he claimed) and we waited as he moaned and searched our faces in confusion. Then he injected him (heart) again and we waited and finally, mercifully, he died with the third heart injection. And my family cried throughout. Dr. Broderick was sympathetic but we were charged for each injection, not something that a grieving family would protest. It would be unfair to say that Dr. Broderick had anything to do with what afflicted Charlie or that the supplements caused his untimely death, but despite his sympathy when Charlie finally did die, his bill was unsympathetic. The real problem is that Dr. Broderick didn't have the competence to put down a sad and dying dog whose final half hour was a nightmare. All we could do was to insure that our remaining and future pets have a better practitioner. We weren't out the door of Southdown Animal Clinic when my wife, normally the most kind and forgiving person I've ever known, said "I hate that man!". She'd never said that about anyone before but this week, six years after Charlie's death, she saw him on a Shark Tank re-run and she said, I hate that man!". The Sharks sussed him out as a quack quicker than we did. Sorry Charlie, old boy. read more

I actually know Dr. Broderick for many years and my friends wife worked for him. My advice stay away from this dirt bag he is the worst vet on Long Island. He got sued so many times for malpractice he declared bankruptcy. In one case several years ago, I spent 6,000.00 on my Lab because he promised me the dog would be fine, providing the treatment was completed. To my horror the dog died several days later. He treats his employees and his customers terribly. In another case he left the back door opened to his hospital and the customer's dog ran away. Instead of telling the truth Broderick convinced the owners the dog died and he had it cremated. Several days later the dog returned to Broderick's Animal Hospital. Instead of facing the owners with the truth he took the dog to the Little Shelter in Huntington. Stay away from this piece of garbage. read more

My 5 pound tea cup Chihuahua has never know any other Veterinarian care other then the marvelous treatments she has received in her three years of life from Dr Broderick. Her first year of life was a difficult year as she was born sickly and taken too soon from her mother. The staff at Southdown nursed and taught me how to nurse her to stellar conditioning. And yes we were sold on the health benefits of the Cornucopia products and the Greek olive oil and the Super foods and the Himalayan Sea Salt. As a family we eat all natural and respect the same standards for our dog who is a vital part of our family. With this said when we noticed our dog was feeling ill I immediately called the office at Southdown Animal Hospital knowing full well the office hours were open for only another four minutes. It was Saturday night and Dr Broderick said to come right in. I live 35 minutes away and he waited for us after closing. We were treated and given instructions, and by morning we were able to confirm the dogs stomach problem was a derivitive of eating bird seed. We called the Dr back Sunday morning and he spent close to thirty minutes of his time on a Sunday helping us to help our dog. I feel it is important to mention although my dog is only three years old, we have been patients at the hospital for more then a decade and the staff has treated two of our Italian greyhounds, our lab chow mix, a Shepard lab mix, two cats and we would never think of using any other Dr for the care and welfare of our animals. We have always been treated as well as he treats our animals. My recommedation is stop looking for a Dr. and call the office at Southdown Animal Hospital, you will find a Dr and people who love your animal just as much as you do. read more

My animals--an older Golden, a 4 mth. lab, and 5 mth kitten--are all thriving on Cornucopia food. Dr. Broderick's passion for animals and his interest in creating healthy food for them are intense. When I've called to discuss food and health of my pets, he has always made time to talk. He comes across as overbearing and interrupts a lot, but he has a lifetime of experience and expertise that he's bringing to the problem. read more

I actually joined Yelp with the sole purpose of reviewing this scumbag. He publicizes his "Shark Tank" appearance, but if you watch the episode, Dr. Broderick is accurately called a snake oil salesman and a fraud. The Sharks are exactly correct. For years, he has preyed on mostly poor people lured in by his coupons. He has had his veterinary license suspended, declared bankruptcy, and has been the defendant in numerous lawsuits. His Cornucopia crap made my dog violently ill and the discount shots were not full doses- in fact, I threw a fit when he attempted to administer one shot with an obviously used needle. I have witnessed him scream at a pet owner in the waiting room for disputing an incorrect bill. His outdated equipment and untrained staff are a joke (...I especially enjoyed the vet tech Eileen who had a substance abuse problem and stole cash regularly). Ask any animal shelter or any reputable vet about Southdown and AVOID. Your pet's life depends on it!! read more
