There are some trees that offer shade from the heat, a short, meandering walking path, a short path that leads to Old Tampa Bay, and 2 covered gazebos-one in the main section of the park and the other down by the water. This isn't a park that you should go out of your way to get to, but if you're nearby and walk to get some fresh air or walk your dog, this spot will satisfy your needs. Heads up-I've encountered some people down at the gazebo by the water drinking and "smoking", so just be mindful and alert if you walk to the water.

It's not obvious, but the Bay view side of the park is directly opposite of the entrance to the larger, inland side of the park. While there are no restrooms, there's a Chevron right next door. The park is open sunrise to sunset everyday, though there's no gate to keep you coming in afterwards if you were so inclined, I suppose.

If you ever find yourself in heart of Tampa, I would not miss visiting this sort of "quirky" park. Initial research and query validates that the Jose Marti Park is owned by the country of Cuba. So by visiting the park, you are stepping into Cuba even though you're physically located in Contiguous United States by the technicalities of titles and deeds. So why cross this off the bucket list? In fact, getting to this location is fairly convenient using the free-of-charge TECO streetcar. I would argue is this probably the preferred method if you're coming from the downtown Tampa area. If you're travelling from the last stop by Hattrick's (Station 11), it will take no more than 25 minutes to get to the Station 4 which is located across the street from the Jose Marti Park. The street car travels in both directions so its just a matter of waiting for the car to come back the other to get back to the origination. Compared to some older photos found here, there is some change to the area around the park. For starters, there is a towering 3-story loft that looms over on the left side of the park as you're facing the entrance. Aside from that, the park is fairly quaint and modest - I would rather call it a glorified garden then a park. There are several distinct fixtures within the confines of the walls. The plaques on these fixtures offer some insight to the relationship of this area to that of Cuba. It is more of a place for reflection or pontificate (if you're into that sort of thing). The vegetation (mainly referring the trees) is pretty neat, while "wild" chickens roam the grounds. There are benches of sitting, and for the most part, the traffic of visitors to the park lends itself to a bit of quietness. It's a bit surreal to think that this piece of land in the heart of Tampa is Cuba, but ultimately its worth the visit as you are just a few walkable blocks into the heart of Ybor District itself.

(From March, 2022)…read more Never crossed my mind that this would be considered a park as it's more of an art exhibit from the outskirts of it. It's small but has some statues, a water fountain, and artwork that will make you turn your head when you walk past it. As you walk past, you might as well take a turn into it and explore. You'll probably get through it in 10 minutes but it makes you appreciate how cool of a city Tampa is. For the most part it was clean but there's some gum on the ground. Watch your steps here!

The recreation area & housing projects formerly known as Central Park Village are well known in and a major part of Tampa's archives now & then. Take a look at the "Lifetiles" along the park's wall of Black History and near the grassy field that was once a world renowned American skatepark developed in the 70's called The Bro Bowl. The park is about 11 acres yet spacious enough for dogwalkers, skaters, & fitness officianados. Some of the happenings that have taken place include: The Tampa Bay Veg Fest, BBQ Love Fest, The Fight Wright Foundation's Annual 5k Walk/Festival by (Dr. Vondalyn Wright) a survivor & true pioneer of the former Central Park Village. An annual Easter Eggstravaganza sponsored by 1828 Entertainment (Marlon Wright). A host of vendor & market events have taken place at the park as well. *There are local businesses near on the east end (off from the park). ***One interesting note in particular is that the cross street from Central Avenue is titled "Ray Charles Boulevard". Named for his connection to the city within Tampa's Rhythm + Blues music scene and apparently the HeyDays of (R+B) in the early 1950-60's & 70's. *This area was once titled Central Park Village. The park also has a water sprout or splash pad for kids as well as a picnic area. Come take a look at the giant musician statues, murals & more. Parking is free and just in front of the shaded table area.

A lot of different birds to see and it's great for a walk or bike ride. We loved walking here during the Safety Harbor BDR (race) and took our time to enjoy the views. I have visited several times and every time it is gorgeous on the way in and out. Appreciate the varied places to stop, rest and take photos too.

I've been here three times so far. Once I came as a part of the Ybor City walking tour that usually…read moreis listed in the Yelp! Events and I just happened upon the park while I was walking. The second time, I decided to actually go to the park after I finished the Ybor City State Museum and there was some sort of cupcake festival going on. The third time I came there was a farmers market. They hold the Saturday market every Saturday morning and I believe they recently started doing the market again with COVID precautions. When there are no events, this appears to be a place that many of the homeless people hang out since there's actually some shade over here. So the park is shared by the homeless and the roosters and chickens. I did like all the chickens and roosters running around. Apparently, they are protected by city ordinance. I learned in the Ybor City Museum or maybe it was the Henry B Plant museum that the roosters and chickens that roam the streets of Ybor City and the Centennial Park are the descendants of the birds that were first brought over by the first settlers of Ybor City. So they actually have legal free range to roam as they please. Pretty cool, huh? So try to abide by the speed limit and don't harm or chase them. I also like that the Saturday Market tends to change vendors often so you might find something different each time you come. If you're trying to make a day of it, try the Ybor City Walking Tour that is usually on Yelp! Events or go to the Ybor City State Museum which is right across the street from the park. If you don't want to pay for parking, there are several areas around the park that you don't have to pay for.
