We really enjoyed our ferry ride to Egmont Key. I wish I could recall the captain and first mate names - but the first made had a beard and long braided hair and the captain was a silver haired very kind middle weight gentleman. They were informative along the way to and from and the captain even paid for our sodas on the way back in b/c we didn't have cash. The marina itself was easy to access and mostly calm. The check in gentleman was a bit unfriendly and angry in his delivery of orders- but perhaps he had good reason. Just not the most friendly start the day. All of what he said was likely valid, it was just the angry tone in delivery that felt off. All and all, I would definitely book again if we come back to the area! read more

This is THE dolphin boat tour to go on, and we have tried several in the Boca Ciega Bay area. A dolphin specialist guides the tour and explains everything about dolphins, and knows how to identify most of the 400+ dolphins in the bay, by name, by their distinctive dorsal fin. We were also guided to an osprey nest in the middle of the bay, on one of the channel markers, where the osprey family were raising their two babies. We were lucky it was a beautiful day, weather-wise, but they also have a canopy over the pontoon boat, which keeps out both hot sun and rain. It's really the best dolphin boat tour around! read more

We booked a dolphin cruise out of Hubbard's Marina and things went very well. The booking people were friendly and helpful, and the shop was clean. The boat crew, including Captain Zack were both engaging and entertaining with good knowledge of the cruise area. We saw lots of dolphins, jumping Rays, and an Osprey nest with a mother and two fledglings in the nest. We were also given information on the expensive homes, boats and history on this route. Overall a great 90 minutes on the water, worth the time to do. read more

Let me tell you.... This was Amazing!! We had a blast. 90 minutes is just enough time to really experience the dolphin boat tour. My friend was visiting from Ohio and this was the perfect treat for her. The tour guides were amazing. They gave a great presentation and provided a lot of information about the body of water and all the wildlife. The educational experience really made a deferent. We got to see some dolphins. Really nice houses. And enjoyed some sailing time. Looking forward to doing it again. read more

Took the Egmont Key excursion with bestie for a gorgeous beach day that did not disappoint! Captain Zip and Captain Colin were fun hosts and shared facts about the key and local area! Egmont Key was pristine for sunning, hiking, shelling and viewing: Fort Dade, lighthouse, collecting shark teeth, and seeing Gopher tortoises! Total of 5 hours with 3-hours on key! We felt this is an overpriced ferry to the Shell Island. It is not what is described on their website. The boat ride is maybe 15 minutes one way. The Island beaches aren't that great and broken shells along the shore is rough on the feet. A person can find shells for free at any other beach. Personally not even close to the $40 ticket price. With getting 4 tickets, a big waste of money. read more

This was my second time fishing with Hubbard's Marina. I really enjoyed the boat ride and overall fishing experience; however, several issues made this trip disappointing. I prepaid for 3 dozen shrimp with my trip, and unfortunately all of them were dead. When I approached one of the crew members about the issue, instead of helping resolve it professionally, he became aggressive and threatened to remove me and my son from the boat if I "didn't like it." Another concern was that several people were smoking on the boat, including someone from the crew. This created an uncomfortable environment, especially for families and children onboard. I understand that problems can happen during a trip, but customer service, professionalism, and maintaining a respectful family-friendly environment should always be priorities. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works on improving the overall customer experience. read more

We took the ferry to/from Shell Key Island and found these guys to be thorough and efficient- you'll receive an email outlining exactly what to expect the day of your fare Directions and parking were very clear We reserved the 10:00am departure and returned on the 12:30 I happened to find a lovely shell and the guys offer to drill a small hole and make a necklace for you, which really made it a memory They do have snacks, shell bags, drinks, etc for sale on board in case you forgot something and a Venmo for tips The driver slowed down and got us some dolphin sightings on the way back so well worth a good tip! read more

My girls and I took the 10 a.m. ferry out to Shell Key Island, leaving from the Ft Desoto boat docks. As someone who struggles with anxiety in new experiences, I was impressed with how thorough and well organized the itinerary was. It enabled me to pack and prepare with confidence, arriving relaxed and ready to enjoy the day. The check in process was clear and simple. I'm glad that I followed the advice of the itinerary and arrived an hour before departure. It gave us plenty of time to get checked in, use the restroom, and organize our belongings. Our Captain and First Mate were very friendly, upbeat guys. We were offered a selection of snacks, drinks and shelling bags for purchase. A little information about our surroundings. The only thing I would hopefully suggest is for education to be shared with everyone about why it's important to leave shells that have living creatures. Our trip back was peaceful. Our First Mate offered to turn everyone's favorite shell into a necklace for them at no charge. Our Captain spotted a pod of dolphins and took a very slight detour so we could all share the excitement. I was grateful to learn there was a Venmo QR code to enable tipping for those of us who don't travel with cash. Tipping is optional, but I really enjoyed our trip and appreciated their kindness and helpfulness getting me, my 2 kids and all our stuff on and off the boat. read more

This is a no nonsense excursion. We had an easy experience from parking to the return. The staff was super friendly and took great care of us. We left from fort de Soto boat ramp to shell key. Not recommended for experienced anglers. The captain will just drive you to a random reef spot to where you catch a bunching dinks and small grunts. The deckhands don't know anything about offshore fishing and are greedy and will ask for 15 dollar tips each for a 4 hour trip even if the didn't help you at all. Maybe this is a good idea if you don't care about fishing or catching some good eating fish but I would definitely not recommend. read more

We are long time locals and can't say enough good about the folks and services at Hubbard's Marina. We struggled to think of an activity that would be fun for visiting friends, their adult daughter and their 5 yr old granddaughter. The 90 min dolphin watch was the perfect afternoon activity for all of us. The boat crew was knowledgeable and engaging. They provided us with plenty of dolphin sightings and there wasn't a dull moment during the outing. The senior adults enjoyed it as much as the little one. We followed the boat outing with a great, leisurely dinner at one of John's Pass restaurants. We would repeat this trip again to show off our lovely waterfront and wildlife​ read more

I know it might sound a little strange but going deep-sea fishing was a bucket list item for me. I live in central Florida now so it's not difficult for me to get to either the Atlantic Coast or the Gulf coast and, quite frankly, going fishing in a group isn't all that expensive. Nonetheless, This is something I had never done in my life but always wanted to. A friend of mine suggested Hubbards Marina, and we scheduled it. We went out on a 41 foot boat and did the six hour fishing. Our captain, Sal, seem to be an expert at his craft. His first mate, scraps, was very entertaining and stumped me on several baseball trivia questions. Between the six of us, we probably caught about 80 lane snappers, five or six grouper (out of season and tossed back,) a couple black Seabass, a mangrove, snapper, and several other species. Once we got on a spot, we were hitting fish so quickly, nobody could keep up with baiting, etc. Sal & Scraps were fantastic and I can't wait to go again! I will certainly request those two gentlemen! If you were looking to do some offshore fishing, and you were in the Tampa area, this was a fantastic experience for me and I highly recommend Hubbards!! This was such a great experience for me. The crew was great! We enjoyed our trip out. It's a quick boat trip with lots of time on island to look for shells. Bring a shell bag or buy one on the boat. Wear swimwear under your clothes, there are no changing areas and you may want to swim or wade in for shells. You may have your best trip if you bring chairs and sunshade. We went on the 12 hour night snapper slapper, excellent trip , skipper had us on the fish the whole trip and worked various wrecks. Crew were great and attentive when required by us. I realize the price of fuel has gone up but the Captain ran at almost trolling speed to the fishing spots. He ran north instead of straight out. Found out he was used to the grounds up north as he was fairly new to this area. Once on anchor he stayed a lot longer than he should have as no one was catching fish. At one stop everyone was catching fish, but he decided to pull anchor and move to another spot that wasn't producing. You should never leave fish to try and find fish. Mates were more interested in listening to Taylor Swift than the clients. Also couldn't seem to put the fish on the right stringers. We ended up at least 8 fish short than what we caught. read more

Avoid Hubbard's Marina Pirate Ship at all costs. I missed my scheduled boat due to a misunderstanding about the departure time, and I fully acknowledge their policy states missed trips are the customer's responsibility. I'll also be honest--I came in frustrated and did give some attitude in return. However, as someone with a background in customer service and business ownership, that's exactly when a company should try to de-escalate and offer solutions. That is NOT what happened here. Instead, the employee at the counter, Shelly, was immediately rude, dismissive, and confrontational. There was zero attempt to offer any kind of solution--no rescheduling, no credit, nothing. She escalated the situation and seemed more focused on arguing than helping. When I requested a refund because of how the situation was being handled, she repeatedly went behind closed doors to discuss things out of earshot, multiple times, rather than handling it professionally. I was told I would be refunded, yet I was given no receipt, no email, and no confirmation of any kind--even after asking. Trying to salvage the day for my child, I returned shortly after and purchased tickets for a later boat. After paying AGAIN, the situation escalated even further. The owner, Jennifer, called and refused to allow us to board--despite having just accepted payment for the second trip. When I demanded an immediate refund, I was insulted, called "stupid," and sarcastically asked what "planet" I live on. That level of behavior from someone in an ownership/management position is completely unacceptable. At that point, the situation broke down entirely. After being treated poorly both in person and over the phone, insulted, and refused confirmation for refunds, I also responded in a way I'm not proud of. At this point, I am still waiting for my refund, have received no confirmation of any kind, and received no services rendered. From a consumer standpoint, this raises serious concerns. In Florida, taking payment without providing services and failing to issue a refund may violate the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA), Chapter 501, Florida Statutes, which prohibits unfair or deceptive business practices. It may also raise issues under general contract law depending on how transactions are handled. This business not only demonstrates poor customer service, but also a concerning lack of professionalism and communication when handling disputes involving customer payments. Proceed with extreme caution. UPDATE: I have been successfully refunded. read more
