I've taken Lovie (cat) to the Brodhead location several times over the last few years (and once or twice to their Monroe location where we first saw them), and had a couple of issues along the way. One example is their record keeping on rabies shots. They gave him a 3 year vaccine the first time we went there. Then, said he needed another the following year. When I questioned this, they said the previous vaccine had been the "one year" version. I thought maybe I was remembering wrong, so i said OK. The next year, I got another notice that he was due for a rabies shot. I knew for sure he'd gotten the three year version for the second shot, emailed back and forth with their office and thought it was resolved as the didn't mention it in following visits over the last couple of years. Now, we get to Monday of last week. I made an appointment for euthanasia after Lovie had a massive seizure the day before. He was getting around, but not himself and I didn't want him to suffer. Of course, I was worried if I was making the best decision, so I agreed when they said let's do blood/urine tests thinking maybe I had been jumping the gun. The price was $150 to get results back on Thursday... or I could pay $450 to get results back the same day. $450 was out of my budget since there would be more costs to follow, so I said said the $150 option. Then the veterinarian said we would need a CT scan to check for a tumor if the blood/urine tests didn't find anything. That would be $4000+. I stopped her there and explained I definitely would not do that as Lovie was 22-ish years old and I wouldn't have brain surgery for him at that age anyway. Then, they said he needed another rabies shot! I explained the above... again. The doctor argued, then she had someone from the front desk come in to argue - with both emphasizing the legal side of it - that if Lovie bit someone, animal control would take him away from me to be euthanized all alone without me. When I got home, I emailed them proof that he was covered. As we waited for the Thursday results, Lovie continued to decline to the point that he didn't eat food on Wednesday. So, I took him to Janesville Animal Clinic (Mineral Point Ave) where they checked him out and agreed with what I was seeing. They were incredibly kind and empathetic, and Lovie had a quick and painless passing. Brodhead did NOT call with test results on Thursday... or Friday. It was around their closing time on Saturday that I got a voicemail saying the results were in (but not what the results were), and that she would call back on Monday or the following Thursday. Seriously!!! I emailed them that Lovie was already deceased as of the day they were supposed to have called with test results. Their response, "During our discussion, we presented different care options and we did our best to explain the potential outcomes and implications of each. You agreed to starting with bloodwork." Yes, because I thought they would be doing what was best for Lovie - not dragging out his obvious decline. I say obvious because he had lost almost two pounds over the past year or so and his body temperature was low that day. They didn't even apologize for not getting the test results back in a timely manner even though they were in on that Thursday (I checked on their website that Thursday afternoon and the results had come back, but they didn't try to reach me until Saturday.) At the end of the day, I guess I should have been more assertive, but I trusted the "professionals" and hoped I was wrong about it being the end of Lovie's days. I am, however, glad I went to the second place to give by little buddy a humane end of life experience rather than continuing to let Brodhead VMC drag it out. I would like to add that several friends have said they bad similar bad experiences with this veterinarian. read more

We had amazing service from Dr. Emily Hill. Her care and compassion were extraordinary. Sadly, we had to put our dog down. She was patient and answered all of our questions. We highly recommend them. read more

I'd give 0 stars if I could. Just as they were closing, my dog started staggering, couldn't stand. Called to get him in for an emergency check to be told I hadn't paid my bill from July when I had another pet cremated, it was paid. (Bank records are great) Vet FINALLY called back saying since it wasn't paid, the best they could do was 7:30 the next morning. My dog passed away sometime during the night because of their horrible book keeping. Completely uncompassionate, uncaring vet. Wouldn't send my worst enemy here rip boy read more

We took our mini dachshund here after discovering he had built up crystals in his urinary tract preventing him from peeing. Dr Emily Hill was phenomenal on getting him in for an ultrasound to confirm everything (this was after struggling to find a vet anywhere near us who could do an ultrasound AND being quoted $6500-8500 for the inevitable surgery our pup was going to need)! Dr Melvin performed his surgery and he is at home recuperating. He and the entire team did a fantastic job at taking such good care of our Buckley and we are forever grateful for them getting him in, being reasonable on the cost and giving our 2 yo puppy another chance at life with a successful and great surgery! We won't be going ANYWHERE else for our pets need and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them. Thank you to the entire team! read more

We've been bringing our dogs here for the past 6 years and it is an amazing facility with kind, courteous staff and state of the art equipment. Dr Melvin is a great vet who you can tell really cares about his patients. I love that they offer alternative treatments such as MLS laser therapy and chiropractic care. They also have an amazing rehab specialist, Jordon, who implements physical therapy, massage, PEMF, E-stim and other modalities if needed to give fur-babies the best treatment possible. read more

Just started using them after just moving to the area 3 weeks ago. Had a dog suddenly in pain from back issues and also have a disabled daughter at home who needs help all the time. My spouse had not yet moved in. I also had an appliance delivery scheduled later in the day. Appointment for a technician to do a 5 minute laser therapy. Not an appointment with the vet- appointment was 20 minutes late. After sharing with tech I was very unhappy with lateness for all the above reasons I shared that they had one more chance at next visit to get it right. They then 4 weeks later said I was no longer welcome to bring my dogs in for being rude to the tech. Front desk staff fine as are vets but it appears they don't want any negative attitudes about their operation. Take it or leave it attitude towards a new customer... read more

Never had a problem before, but when they trimmed my dogs nails today, two were bleeding. They didn't even notice. I went back in to see how concerned I should be. There were streaks of blood all over the floor. They gave me a powder to stop the bleeding and told me I could use cornstarch or flour at home if it continues. I'm not sure I can take her back to this vet in good conscience. read more

Do not let them perform surgery on you pet! Our original vet couldn't get our dog in.. we took her here and they performed an exploratory surgery on our stable dog, they found no problems.. the next day our dog died from internal bleeding! DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH Your pet! to make things worse.. how they handled it afterwards as if it happens all the time. read more

I've been going here on and off with different cats for around 20 years or more. That should tell you something right there. It's the best vet clinic I've been to. The best in the area. The staff, with rare exceptions, is caring and competent. I particularly like Dr. Heise. There are others, I just don't know them by name as well. They are thorough and compassionate. Right now during the pandemic, they are doing curbside pick up of animals and you talk to the doc and pay on the phone. That's all well and good, but then a couple of the staff are not wearing masks and not practicing social distancing with the customers. Granted most of the customers don't seem to care, but as a medical establishment, I think they ought to enforce that a little better. read more

We have gone to this vet clinic for over 10 years and have never been disappointed. They are friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and very cautious when treating for any health related issue. Even our pets get overly excited when they come here (probably for the treats). The kennels are clean and our dogs have never come home nervous. There is peace of mind knowing they are in good & capable hands when we are away. They even sent a handwritten, heartfelt card when our oldest dog died. While it was tough to read, it was nice knowing we weren't alone while grieving. I highly recommend taking pets here if you care about quality pet health. read more

This is a working animal vet that also provides very professional, reasonably priced, and compassionate service for pets. I've been taking my two hunting dogs, plus my cat, here for nearly 6 years. In my 30+ years of owning animals and seeing many vets in different states I've lived in, the Vets and staff here are by far, the best. They don't try to push unnecessary services and are very sensitive to owner concerns for animal wellness. The facilities are very clean and well kept. The reception area is large, spacious, and comfortable. The exam rooms are what you would expect from a high quality professional operation. read more

We have gone to this clinic for the past 4 years. I would definitely not recommend their Pet Boarding/Pet Sitting service under any circumstance. We had one of our dogs kenneled there once - he came home with a urinary tract infection from unsanitary and poor conditions. There are people that will say that the Pet Boarding/Pet Sitting service is run by other people, however as a Vet Clinic that cares for animals - they shouldn't allow such horrible conditions. Just most recently we had an emergency where we had to bring one of our dogs in. When we initially called - they were "busy" - you can come later - when we got there - there was NO ONE there - and the people behind the counter were moving at the speed of turtle (from obviously being bored). When our poor guy was finally looked at and concluded that he was fine - we were given and charged for unnecessary items - the Vet's bed side manner during the whole visit - was purely awful. Hey, I'll pay for an emergency - I'll pay for the necessary treatment - but don't make me pay for stuff that is unnecessary and that you received as samples from one of your vendors - not cool. BTW - I've posted concerns about their Pet Boarding/Pet Sitting service before only to have it "disappear"???? We are done at this clinic. read more

There was Zero compassion shown when they put my cat on steroids and ended up causing him to have diabetes. His initial visit they diagnosed him with allergies and said he needed steroids. They never mentioned that there was any other alternative to treatment other than steroids. He is a middle-aged overweight cat and should not have been put on steroids as a first line of defense. Once the steroids caused the diabetes they then talked about starting him on insulin or a different medication to treat the diabetes. They then put him on over the counter Zyrtec for the allergies. The Zyrtec worked better than steroids ever did. Why wouldn't they try this route first instead of starting with steroids which then ended up with a diabetic cat. When asked this question they simply came back at me with the fact that Zyrtec doesn't work for all cats and that being a middle-aged overweight cat he's more likely to develop diabetes anyway. I reminded them that prior to being on steroids his blood sugar was 150 and now after being on steroids it was 500. He had zero diabetic symptoms prior to the steroids. No apologies just excuses. read more
