The food is fabulous. Fresh made, not shipped in frozen, and you can definitely taste the difference. I opted for the sweet potato wedges with my burger. These were more like a steak fry cut than wedges, but man alive were they good. An actual fresh cooked sweet potato. I choose that option often and these were the absolute best I have ever tasted. The burgers were excellent though they use leaf lettuce instead of iceberg. I took the barrel sauce on the side. It is a spicy ketchup aioli and went well on the burger and for dipping potatoes. I also got some mayo on the side, happy to report no charge on that as some places do. The Reuben balls were out of this world. Plenty of meat, cheese and kraut with the proper amount of crunchy breading. I could even taste caraway so it was just like mini hot Reuben sandwiches. All the above food items are highly recommended. Looking at the redesigned menu it seems they want to stress restaurant over bar which is as it should be with this quality of food. The atmosphere would be enhanced in my opinion if the staff dressed up a bit. They were all extremely casually dressed. The main dining room is all tables; if you want a booth there are a few at the rear of the bar side. They have a good sized outdoor space, but a view of Central Avenue in Middletown does not really grab me. There were a lot of people dining outside. Our waitress was very enthusiastic about the food - with good reason- and answered many questions. She checked on us appropriately though the food was delivered by other people. I don't like that practice. There was one wrinkle, my husband wanted the baked potato but his burger showed up with fries. The correct item came shortly, with apologies, and we got to keep the fries too! We will gladly return and you should too. read more

My friend and I met up at Broken Barrel Bar for a drink and a bite to eat, and it turned out to be a great choice for catching up. The staff were super friendly and made us feel very welcome. Whether you sit inside or out, the atmosphere is perfect for conversation and laughter--definitely a nice spot to unwind or meet with friends. We kept it simple and just ordered appetizers: the Reuben Balls and the Arancini. Both were tasty, but I have to admit I was a little let down by the Arancini. Traditionally, arancini are made with a risotto filling, but here they were more like mozzarella balls with a meatball on the side--not quite what I was expecting. It's a place in transition- "OK" food, no air conditioning, and a weird mix of hole-in-the-wall bar and place to bring the family for dinner... Just felt like it was a work in progress that needs refinement and a mission to stick to... Menu was chaotic too. We have only tried the flatbread pizza so far. Other than price, not sure if there is a difference in size. They are a decent size for the price. Cute little place in Middletown. My husband and I split the Rueben balls with the homemade 1000 island dressing and the bbq burger. Both were very tasty. Definitely other things on the menu I wanted to try but they were out of several things. The server was very nice and attentive. Will be back to see what else is good. read more

The waitress today was rude. She never greeted me when I came in because she was on her phone. Another customer had to get her attention three times before she came over. I had a pick up order through door dash and they said they didn't receive it because the internet went out. I would have understood but she said "we can't make it so you need to deal with this on your end" and walked away. She did not even offer to seat me or place another order through them. My son took me here for lunch - first time trying it. Friendly service - I recognized the owner from their other restaurant, Cracked Pot. I asked her if the crispy chicken sandwich was hand breaded & she stated it comes in already breaded. However, when she delivered the Chicken Sammy, she asked the chef to bread the chicken breast by hand. It was good but breading was bland - needed some seasoning. She agreed & said they may start hand breading the Chicken Sammy. Love that she went out of her way to make my first meal here a success. The sweet potato fries that came with my sandwich were very good. My son ordered the Sweet & Spicy burger with regular fries. He said it was delicious. Would definitely return here. read more

This restaurant is open about a week ago. It is owned by the same people that own the Cracked Pot which has been open for several years and their food is delicious. I am anxious to try the food here. The staff is very cordial. The staff very friendly and they are the same staff that's at the Cracked Pot! The buildings is extremely clean and was an Italian restaurant for many years! One of my favorite places for a great meal any evening. I love their chicken breast meal I get the sauce in the side but I can promise you the chicken is so tender and tastes amazing. We have eaten at the Broken Barrel 5 or 6 times since the restaurant opened. Each time has been a wonderful experience! Last night, I ordered something other than my usual burger. It was a fried chicken sandwich. The sandwich comes with several toppings, but I substituted pickles and a bit of mayonnaise instead. If you took a Chick-fil-a sandwich and upgraded it (yes, made it better!) this would be it! The bun was very fresh and the fillet was super juicy. In addition, our server was so happy and pleasant. Unfortunatley, we didn't have a great experience at Broken Barrel tonight. We were a party of 6. Appetizers came out pretty quickly; wings were not well done as requested but they were tasty, cheese balls were just ok. Our meals on the other hand took a very long time to come out. Even after our server said that she "saw the kitchen plating our food", we waited at least another 20 minutes. In all, we probably waiting at least 35-45 minutes. A side of broccoli came out cold and was replaced iwth a hot serving pretty quickly. A baked potato, which was split, was visibly rotten on half the potato making that half inedible, and the pizza was below average which is very unfortunate considering the have a wood fire pizza oven. Perhaps the kitchen staff doesn't know how to properly use the oven? The crust was not crisp, cheese barely melted, and the sauce was definitely not homemade. We probalby could have gotten a better pizza at a skating rink, amusement park, or any chain pizza restaurant. The burgers were very tasty and cooked as ordered, and the pork cutlet sandwich was very good. We complained about the below average pizza and the owner took it off the bill; however, the owner did not come out and speak with us. After we paid, we used the ladies room where we found a dirty cleaning rag left on the counter directly next to the sink. This was also reported to staff. Unfortunately, Broken Barrel won't last long with this type of service. read more

I ordered the chicken breast sandwich which was suppose to come on a bun with onions, pickles and sauce with a side of fries and this is what I received. Chicken was tough and not very flavorful. Fries tasted good. I understand that the location was having short staff issues in the kitchen so the owners were working the kitchen but you would think the owners of the business would have known how to make the menu they created. I might try this place again as I have heard great reviews from other people and on Facebook but tonight they fell flat. read more

Went for their St Patrick Day specials and they were special! I had the Reuben sandwich with steak fries and it was one of the best I've ever had. Hope they put that one on the regular menu. The hamburgers we had were very good. BUT the wait time to get our food was ridiculous. This is not a huge restaurant with a lot of tables. And the menu is pretty simple. But it took them over an hour to crank out 2 hamburgers. I don't know if this was a fluke, or how it normally works. Just be prepared to wait for your food if you try this place. read more

My wife and I love the sister restaurant down the street (Cracked Pot) for breakfast and tried here for lunch. It was beyond great! The barrel bite corn fritters were incredible and the Wisconsin burger was the best burger I have ever had. Our waitress, Dax, was awesome. Nice place to hang out and enjoy life!
