My wife and I met long-time friends at this restaurant for dinner. Our friends convinced me to try the Original Sticky Burger. I was initially reluctant because in addition to having bacon, bbq, sharp cheddar, garlic aioli & crispy onions, it includes house-made peanut butter. I had never heard of peanut butter on a burger before. I was prepared to hate it, but ended up loving it. If you get up to Lebanon, stop by the Golden Lamb and check out the Black Horse Tavern. My parents are going here today to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. 60 years is a big deal. I called the restaurant to see if they could offer them a dessert, or if I could pay for their meal, or something. I spoke to a young girl and she said they don't do anything for that. I asked to speak to the manager because surely that can't be right. She comes back on and says there is nothing they can offer them. They don't offer a dessert, won't let me pay for anything etc. What has happened to customer service?!? 60 years is a big deal. Absolutely the worst customer service. I will not be returning to this restaurant ever again. It is the little things that make a place shine and makes people come back again and again. Everything went well. Timing to get seated, service and food was all excellent. Our toddler did well with the wixi stix toy. The baby was able to nibble on some fries , my fried chicken was superb with just enough seasoning and fell off the bone. What's pictured is the lamb shank my boyfriend got and it fell off the bone. Everything was just right. Our toddler got the grilled cheese and fries. My vegetables tasted like they had just been picked from the garden. I tried the cranberry apple cider cocktail and it was good, but tasted a little watered down or needed more flavor to it. That was my only complaint but not a big one. Stopped in here for lunch on the drive from Cincinnati to Columbus. Pleasant atmosphere, beautiful decor. Got very loud and it wasn't full. I had a fried chicken club and it was delicious. I had baby greens instead of fries but I didn't care for the house dressing. Partner had the Shepherds Pie - very good, rich and huge portion. Went there for lunch with a friend of mine. I was disappointed that I was served a glass of unfiltered tap water to drink, it tasted bad, so I ordered a soda. The server was attentive and brought the drink back. We ordered food that was a little expensive for a tavern, but the food was delicious and warm. We both enjoyed a hamburger and deviled eggs, the deviled eggs are are a must! The hamburger was good. Very disappointed with the food, got the roast turkey, dressing was tasteless and so dry could not eat, Shepherd's pie, was way too soupy, had too much gravy, and some of the spices over powered the over all tast. And way over priced for what you get, second rate food. What a shame, in the past this was the place to go, not anymore. Sad won't be back. I really love the vibe of Black Horse Tavern. It's like the masculine counterpart to The Golden Lamb--all dark wood, dim lighting featuring emerald light-esque lamps. It has an impressive bar, a fireplace that is lit on most chilly days and a gorgeous patio seating area offering a view of downtown Lebanon. They have a lovely cocktail list (my favorite is the Bee's Knees) and a menu with something for everyone. They make a truly incredible salmon. My go-to order is to get their signature salad and add salmon to the side. So delicious. The price point is accessable and seating very intimate. This is a spot I almost always bring out of towner's to eat and I think it really sparkles as one of Lebanon's best spots. read more

Blown away by Black Horse Tavern! Hands down best burger I've had since Wildflower Cafe used to be a restaurant! Went here on a Saturday at lunchtime. Based on parking lot, was a bit nervous about the wait...nope! Seated right away in a lovey cozy back room with a roaring fireplace and seasonal decor. Ambiance is sometimes just as important as the food! ;) I have to say, this is in some ways, better than dining at The Golden Lamb: same amazing food, faster service, no reservations. The waitress hustled, and was some of the best service we've had in a while...very impressive. Ok, the food. The lamb burger exceeded my expectations, so many flavors working harmoniously together, so fresh, even the bun was well thought out and cooked well. Still dreaming of that burger a week later... and the creamy balsamic on the side salad *chef's kiss* Ended the meal with pink peppermint patty gelato...oh wow. Haven't had gelato in about a decade, and this made me question why I stopped. The perfect end to a meal. Would absolutely go back again! It was nice outside, so we sat on the terrace which had such a pleasant feel to it. I ordered the burger with peanut butter on it - it was actually pretty good! But my friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was better in my opinion. We also ordered side wedge salads which were refreshing and delicious. Even rolls were put out with the table! My friend and I probably stayed there for several hours talking. We weren't buying drinks, but our waitress kept refilling our waters and was extremely polite in telling us to take our time and not rush. I probably tipped her the best I have anyone else before because she had a perfect balance of being attentive yet letting us feel like we could sit and relax! After enjoying ourselves at Lebanon's Oktoberfest we decided to go in a warm restaurant and have a late dinner. It was a HORRIBLE experience at the Black Horse Tavern. Steve Fritz, the manager at the Black Horse Tavern, has been VERY unprofessional. I emailed the Golden Lamb to have the general manager CALL me to discuss a terrible experience. Instead I receive an email from Steve from his iPhone...4 days later. After enjoying your Oktoberfest a group of 15 of us went to the Black Horse. It was probably around 8:30. There were probably 3 in our group that enjoyed more of the German beers than the rest of us. We all ordered food. I will admit that our group was probably loud. We were having a great time. Our 3 did have some colorful language. Instead of bringing out water for everyone and baskets of rolls while we waited. They brought 2 baskets of rolls (for 15 people) and more drinks. I only got water because that's what I ordered. Before the food arrived Steve Fritz came over and told the table that everyone was cut off from ordering from the bar. No warning was given. No one came over to ask the group to quiet down. Cut off! One guy who was obviously NOT intoxicated went to the bar to order a drink. Rather rudely he was asked where he was sitting and that the table had been cut off. He may have been in the restroom when the cut off happened. He told the manager as he and his wife left to cancel their food order. They went back to Springboro to eat and have a drink. Another friend who was in the restroom was told by the friends who were leaving that the table had been cut off. He went to the bar and Abby very rudely told him the table had been cut off. She then told the manager that he cussed her. I have known this man for about 20 years. He may have colorful language around friends, but he would never cuss a young woman he didn't even know. Would he get a little sassy? Probably. Regardless, Steve had no right to come to our table and berate him in front of everyone. Finally, our food came (still no refill on the rolls or waters...a good way to quiet intoxicated people). I told them to box up my husband's food. I told him to wait outside. He was intoxicated and his language was colorful. He did that. It was pretty chilly outside at that point. I waited too long for my check and had to ask Steve for it. After I signed the receipt I tried to explain to Steve how his abrupt actions were not the best way to handle things and that he needed to apologize to our friend for the way he spoke to him. He refused and was quite rude to me. I had 1 beer at about 4PM that day. I was totally sober. Since the general manager did not think it was important enough to call me, I will post this as my review and hope that it is shared with the Chamber of Commerce. While we will still frequent a couple of our favorite businesses in Lebanon, we will not be back to any of your events. We will most certainly NOT promote them to our friends and acquaintances. read more

The decor is cool and casual, the service was great, and the food was amazing. My wife had a sticky burger (peanut butter on it) and I had a prime rib dip. Both were perfect. My wife and I went to dinner last night at the Black Horse Tavern at the Golden Lamb in Lebanon. We were greeted and seated quickly on the heated porch. The wait staff was polite and efficient. Dinners were very good. My wife had the Spatzle Soup and the House Signature Salad with Steak. I had the Salad and the Shepherd's Pie. We were both very pleased with the overall experience. Dinners were cooked perfectly and were tasty. Only negative was the price of the Buffalo Trace Bourbon. Double shot, served neat, $27.50. A bit much. Not sure what happened but this was really a bad experience. Haven't been here in a few months but they have revised the menu and removed our favorites, and the food was all relatively bland. We ordered the steak and it had zero flavor. Others had turkey dinner and was not the same as it used to be. So disappointed as this was one of our favs. Do not like any of the changes. It's been a few years since we have been there. Seated right away on the patio. ( it was before 5, when we left at 645 there was a line waiting.) Beautiful afternoon. Our server Shelby was a joy. She did a great job. Drink specials were interesting, I did like the Tito's Martini with smoked salt rim and blue cheese olives. The dinner special was not as great. Surf an turf. The turf was ok, Halibut just seconds from being over cooked, shame the roasted veggies were not the same, I couldn't even cut the Brussels sprouts or most of the carrots, I'm not the only one, as they were clearing plates from other table, I saw a LOT of carrots. The steak was ok, but over all not worth the price. Hubby had the Turkey Ruben which I tasted and thought was good but he wasn't excited. Think I will stick to the appetizers next time. So my family and I went there on Monday my wife and I ordered the Prime rib dinner it was a 10 oz. steak with like a cheesey smashed red potatoes with a Demi glaze. OMG! I think I had a out of body experience! The service was great the food was awesome and did I mention out of body experience. Oh yeah I did man oh man! We had an absolutely amazing experience here last night! The smoked wings are incredible, the burgers are top -quality, and the prime rib sandwich is delicious! The drinks were as great as the service, and the patio seating was very warm on a cold night. Our server was Kayla and she was very friendly, engaging, and professional. Not only did she see to it that we were very satisfied, she even ran out the door to find us at the intersection in our car to return my phone that I left at the table. This place not only warranted a positive discussion with the manager on duty, it earned this review online. Black Horse isn't bar food and is priced accordingly, but was well worth the price, and we can't wait to go back. Great job guys, making Lebanon Ohio proud! read more
