Located in the Broken Spur Inn, the restaurant is surrounded by windows and is quite pleasant. The service was so quick and kind. Every dish as we were walking in looked delicious - generous servings of protein complemented by grilled vegetables and potatoes (the perfect meal after a hike). We ordered the ahi tuna steak and the sirloin steak. The sirloin steak was remarkably tender. The ahi tuna could have used a little more flavor, but definitely was filling. For dessert, the homemade ice creams were decadent. Highly recommend all around. read more

We stayed here the night before we visited Capitol Reef National Park. What a wonderful experience. Broken Spur is an authentic family hotel & restaurant. They have covered wagons will all the mod cons if you want to stay in those. We didn'. Our room was very large clean & comfortable with a Southwestern Cowboy flair. We were able to park right outside the door which was helpful considering the weather was frigid in late April. The cute lobby and attached dining room were right next door. We had dinner & breakfast there. Both meals were delicious homey & tasty. This facility is ideal for Capitol Reef, being only 8 miles from park entrance. The town of Torrey where Broken Spur is situated really has nothing going on apart from a gas station & a store. But we had all we needed at Briken Spur. read more

My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay at Broken Spur Inn when we were visiting Capitol Reef National Park. This charming motel is located up a hill and, since we were on the second floor, we had fantastic views to wake up to both mornings of our stay. Our room was clean and comfortable. We loved the western motif complete with horseshoe and spur towel racks. The breakfast room was also decorated similarly. Speaking of breakfast, we really liked the one here which was included with our stay. I spoke with the hardworking, friendly gentleman in charge of making it. He told me he arrives around 3:20 a.m. to start getting everything ready. We especially loved his pancakes! They also have an indoor pool, which my husband used, and we both took advantage of their hot tub. It was fun to meet visitors from other countries in the pool area! Broken Spur Inn also has several Conestoga Wagons for those that want to have a glamping experience. They looked super cute and if our kids were younger, our family would have loved to stay in one! So fun! Additionally, the staff was very warm and accommodating. We would not hesitate to stay here again when visiting Capitol Reef! read more

It's probably a 3.5, but since it mostly met our needs for 3 nights while visiting Capital Reef, I'll go 4. The room was quiet, clean, spacious, and comfortable. It was decorated nicely while being older. (The shower rod is peeling and tub drain was disconnected, for example, which shows age but hey, shower was clean, the plug worked, and hot water was nice!) There's a good laundry on-site open all night and the appliances worked well, quick and reasonably priced. Pool was also nice, and usually empty. Food: Breakfast is included. The first morning was okay, but every day is exactly the same. The scrambled eggs are horrible. They offer sausage no bacon. The potatoes are steamy and tasteless. Sliced puffy bread. There was fruit salad two days, but put the third. And there was yogurt -highly sweetened/not very natural. Recommend better protein-hard boiled eggs, peanut butter, healthier bread, fresh fruit like an apples, on hand. It's surprising the breakfast was so bad considering they seem to pride themselves on the steakhouse. The first night we had an awesome southwestern salad with yummy beef, served with a delicious warm roll! The second night the wait to just get on the list was 40 minutes, and then we'd need to order and it was already 8:30 so we went elsewhere. The third night we went at 6:30 to order same salad, and had an hour wait until I could place order. Unfortunately, we had a star party tour at 8:30, and the salad wasn't ready by the time we had to leave. Zero stars if I could Went to this place because my Facebook group I'm in for traveling recommended it. Got there tonight at 6:15 and was seated right away. Ten minutes later a server drops off rolls at our table and tells us someone will be with us shortly. We have no utensils for the butter and she came back another ten minutes later and dropped off utensils and scurried away. We sat there until 6:45 and nobody once came over. We had no drinks, we're sitting there with menus, and nobody acknowledged us. The table behind us ordered their food and got their food 25 minutes later. We sat there the whole time without any service. We got up after the girl gave them all their food and scurried away again without acknowledging us. I'm not sure if the staff are just incompetent or that they are understaffed, but it wasn't that crowded to where a party of 2 should be sitting there for 30 minutes with not even a "hello I'll be serving you." Arguably the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant; thousands of times I've eaten out and never have I been flat out ignored. Worst service experience I have ever had. Craving a good burger, this restaurant looked like the spot. It ended up being the biggest hit yet. We were brought out a complimentary, fresh, warm loaf of bread and butter (so sad those days are over in California). Amanda took great care of us and steered me in the right direction when ordering my fried steak. It was to die for! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. $19.95, you get a massive steak with homemade garlic mashed potatoes, and perfectly cooked veggies. My brother loved his half pound burger and finished the whole thing, but couldn't resist multiple bites of my steak. The peppercorn sauce was out of this world. Absolute quality food with quality service making for a wonderful dining experience. Of course, we couldn't resist dessert. We shared a homemade brownie with homemade vanilla ice cream (they also have chocolate or coffee flavors as an option). The brownie could have been a little hotter, but it was still great! I like the Western theme that is apparent throughout the whole Inn. It's a decent place to stay. The rooms were nothing really outstanding for us for about $80 a night in the Winter. Stayed one night when in route from Capitol Reef to Bryce Canyon. The rooms were very recently updated. The rooms were well planned out and really clean with great views. The service was top notch. We were helped by Ashley, Kinsey and AJ at the front desk. They checked us in without a reservation and went out of their way to make sure we had the perfect room. Aron provided great conversation at Breakfast. The included breakfast buffet had eggs, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, toast, fruit, yogurt and blueberry muffins. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. The hotel has wagons for accommodations that looked really fun to stay in. Also, an indoor pool and hot tub!! Highly recommend this motel. You will not be disappointed! read more

First time visiting this area, they have been remolding the rooms inside and out. Rooms were very clean, check in was quick and easy. We were never told we had to make reservations for the restaurant, waited almost an hour to get seated, the hostess was kinda rude about it. The waitress was very helpful and nice. Took our large parties order (10 of us). Then waited for yet another hour for our food, finally had to ask how much longer we had to wait. Finally came out and it was very disappointing. It wasn't very good but by this time we were pretty hungry so we ate the food and left. We do not recommend the restaurant. Go into town to the burger joint, they have excellent food and service. The pool was nice, but it was so hot in there it was uncomfortable and the water was warm and not refreshing. Needs more air circulation. The breakfast that was served was good, it helped since we would be gone most of the day. Would probably stay here again, but it wouldn't be our first choice. read more

We chose to stay at the Broken Spur from their photos, rather than visit a typical chain hotel. The rooms are average size, but a bit worn. The beds were not very comfortable--again, the mattresses could use some updating. The hotel staff was friendly. The breakfast included with the room was excellent. We stayed at broken spur inn for one night during our visit to capitol reef National Park. It was one of the only places that wasn't sold out when we went to book our hotel about 3 hours before we arrived . It was actually a fine place to stay. The rooms are old and a bit outdated but still have a western charm. You can even stay in an Oregon Trail- like wagon at this place! The free breakfast buffet was pretty good. Better than most hotel breakfasts by far. Coffee was terribly weak but everything else tasted good! It's not fancy by any means but you can get a nights sleep here. read more

We stopped here for the night, stayed at the Inn and ate at the Steakhouse, weren't we lucky! The rooms we very clean and the grounds are very pretty, with awesome views surrounding the property. The steakhouse... amazing! One of the best steaks I have ever eaten, and the size was perfect, i barely finished it. DISCRIMINATION! Broke the ADA! We were turned away after arriving about 10pm. We had a service dog with us and they told us we could not stay because they did not allow pets. We said he is NOT a pet, he is service dog. We told them the ADA allows service animals anywhere the public goes. They made the excuse of allergies. According to the ADA, allergies are not a valid excuse to turn away service. The management was very rude. Per the ADA: Under the ADA, State and local governments, businesses, and nonprofit organizations that serve the public generally must allow service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is allowed to go. Allergies and fear of dogs are not valid reasons for denying access or refusing service to people using service animals. When a person who is allergic to dog dander and a person who uses a service animal must spend time in the same room or facility, for example, in a school classroom or at a homeless shelter, they both should be accommodated by assigning them, if possible, to different locations within the room or different rooms in the facility. read more

We visited the Broken Spur Inn during the 'off' (winter) season. Things don't swing into full gear in Torrey until March 15th. As a result, the restaurant was not open for lunch or dinner and we encountered a number of maintenance problems (broken phones, non-functioning ice machine, hot water turned off in our first room). The rooms are tidy and fairly spacious and offer basic amenities (microwave, refrigerator, flat-screen TV), but the shower/toilet room is very cramped. Although there is a small enclosed swimming pool and hot tub on-site, it is disappointing there is no fitness facilities of any kind. The buffet breakfast is nice but nothing special. We were disappointed the were no fruit or yogurt options. The hotel is conveniently located near the west entrance to Capitol Reef National Park. read more

Traveling with a group of 10, we like to stay in privately owned motels, no chains for us! My husband plans all the trips and usually informs everyone with an itinerary. For this stop he kept it a secret! Why? Because he booked the covered wagons! Our group, aged 56-62 years young, were like kids on Christmas morning! The giggling and excitement finding out that we all had a wagon to sleep in was priceless!!! The private bathhouses were an unexpected treat. Terrible! The dining "experience" begins with a 15 minute wait for the only waitress to take your drink order. (It's not busy and there's a hostess, but still you must wait.) You anticipate great, or at least good, food based on 4-star reviews. Unfortunately, you get an overcooked, impossibly thin country fried steak, that's more breading than steak and more peppercorn sauce than either; a dollop of chunky mash potatoes skin on (which I like) looking & tasting like the potatoes came straight out of ground, but no one washed them; and steamed limp vegetables. We had never been there before and all the tables were chairs (no booths) by the windows, so we said it didn't matter. The hostess brought out waters for us and said who our waiter was going to be. 15 min later, no waiter had showed up. We asked another waiter who kept walking by and she said she'd get someone for us. 3 min later, still no one. We asked the same waiter and she said, he's coming. 5 min later still no one so we went and saught the manager. He was surprised we had waited so long but offered no apology. Great road trip spot for great prices! I stayed here with my family after a day trip to Capitol Reef! The staff at the hotel was great and very friendly. I had planned on camping with my family in the Fruita campground, but the temperature was 25 degrees for the morning, so I had to make a change of plans and was able to score a hotel room here! The room comes with a free breakfast voucher which includes a small buffet which includes: Potatoes, Pancakes, Biscuits, Eggs, Oatmeal, Assorted muffins, and your typical breakfast drinks. They also have a steakhouse, which I did not try since I was not in the mood for a huge meal. The staff was very comfortable with locating my family to another location for dinner with a lighter menu. The manager recommended the Rim Rock Lodge, where I had a hamburger and the spicy fries (they are actually seasoned not spicy). The hamburger was huge but nothing special, but the fries were great! They were perfectly season and not too salty. If you get there early, the tables farthest from the door have a spectacular view. For dessert, i had a hot chocolate and a lemon cake. The hot chocolate was fine, but the lemon cake was very dry. The rooms were nice and well-heated (you would never know it was 30 degrees outside), but the beds were slightly squeaky in my opinion. My family disagreed. The manager of the Inn said goodbye as we left and shook our hands. The staff was the best part about the stay. Definitely a good place to stop outside Capitol Reef National Park or on a road trip! read more

The Inn is cute and homey. Rooms were clean and had a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Beds are queen size. It's probably one of the best places to stay in Torrey. We had dinner at the Inn. I had a smoked brisket only served on Sundays. It was very good but wasn't very hot. Another person had the salmon and thought it was a little dry. The sirloin tips were good. The breakfast included with the stay at the Inn was not very good. They offer a buffet that starts at 7:00 AM. We got there about 7:25. Eggs were cold, the biscuit was so hard, I couldn't eat it. The oatmeal was dry packages to mix with hot water. Bacon was OK but overall a disappointing breakfast, cups were paper and utensils were cheap plastic. I'd eat here for dinner but skip the breakfast. read more

I checked in on Xmas day, and I am so satisfied about their friendly staff and service. The room is very clean and upscaled, and it has everything you need after a hike in the capitol reef. There is also a small gift shop where I got a really nice mug of Utah NPs. The owner is a great family, and they even offered free soup, bread, and desserts for the night because no restaurant is open on the xmas day. I am so grateful that I have decided to stay here. The location is great too: just a few minutes away from the capitol reef fruita visitor center, and the backside has a great view of the red mountains. Right now, I had nothing real to complain. Cute rooms are western themed. It was refreshing to walk in to bottled water waiting for me after a long day. They have tan instead of white towels that made it feel more like a home than a public inn. There was a sign up saying not to use washcloths to remove makeup, which i understand, but no makeup remover wipe packets were available to help people follow it. The laundry room was useful and the glass enclosed pool and fitness center was unique. Things that could be improved include having the second lock for inside the door, coffee stirrers wrapped up to ensure cleanliness and not sitting out in the open, and breakfast that starts a tad earlier instead of 7am. Terribly planned hotel room. Only one bedside table with a clock you can't even plug in as there are no plugs near the bed. The only plugs are hidden under a table. A huge couch that faces nothing, so you can't even watch television. Only half of a closet as they are storing handicapped accessible equipment here. Poorly planned bathroom as well.
