Anyways, I went in for dinner both times I was here. Warm atmosphere. Fantastic German decor. "Oh. This place is like forreal German food." Yes, Scott. It's "forreal" authentic German food. Schnitzel both times was on point. My two large guy friends split the Konigsteller. That along with a German beer pretzel we split - all of us were satisfied. They have a great selection of German beer and wine. They were out of the Gewürztraminer when I was there last. No harm no foul though. Apparently our pretzel took a long time, but we were enjoying the company and the atmosphere so it was no big for us. She still comped the pretzel for us though which was really nice. She even kept refilling our waters after we were done and hanging around just chatting. German food. On point. Drinks. On point. Atmosphere. Even better. I'll go four stars for Bronwyn, which I've been anxiously anticipating for a few months(especially the patio). The patio, alas, isn't yet open, but the restaurant opened its doors a mere three days ago and I made it there this evening. Upon arriving, we were greeted with a 90 minute wait so we put a number in and had a patio drink and calamari at Precinct. Within 40 minutes, they called us in, but we missed the call by 4 minutes and couldn't get the table that had opened up. Instead, we grabbed seats at a counter by the front windows within maybe 10 minutes. The German beer selection is slightly bigger than what you'd find at most local establishments, but I have to agree with other reviewers that it is not out of this world. I love that you can get a liter of beer, though. The appetizers are the most promising menu items; we tried the lemon weisswurst(yum), knödel(also yum), the massive pretzel(best thing on the menu), and the blood sausage(kinda intense). We were feeling pretty good(and had probably spent about $40 on that), and split the beef sauerbraten and biernudeln entrees. The noodles were yummy but salty, and I found the beef too citrusy. The entrees, at $18-25 each, left me a bit disappointed(but not hungry; those plates were deceptively filling). We were stuffed beyond belief, but had to try dessert and ordered the Berliner donuts, two delightfully fried, sugar-coated balls of happiness filled with raspberry and cream and served with chocolate sauce. I'd say a tie for best thing on the menu. I left satisfied and pleased there is a German food establishment in the city that isn't Jacob Wirth, but hoping they will either double their portion sizes or lower their prices, as I can't do $100 dinners for two very often. That said, I'd go back in a heartbeat for a beer and a pretzel...and maybe a sausage....and maybe those donuts. read more

I came here around 10:00 at night on a Thursday and we were able to be seated right away. The bar area was definitely full though, as to be expected on a Thursday night. Our waiter was so friendly and bubbly, and was sure to check in on us throughout the night. I ordered a German rosé beer which was light and refreshing, just how I like it! For my main course I ordered the pierogi. It came with 2 quite large dumplings, stuffed with pork, potatoes, and vegetable. It was my first time having it and I enjoyed it! It was pretty tasty and the aioli sauce was a nice touch. The crust was crisp and flakey while the inside was warm and soft. The atmosphere was so cute and had such a great vibe. The other wait staff were fine but we and our friends felt it was inappropriately pushy--enough for us to remark abt it. Btw- there were plenty of open seats in dining room so not a tables issue. Lastly, and this really is the kicker. We had party of 4 but they already included a 20% gratuity w/o notifying us. Hadn't seen this on a party of 4 bill before? So my friend caught it on their slip so she didn't sign on for "additional gratuity" but husband had already signed on ours & included an addtl $40 bc the bill was $200+ per couple. Came in during Mother's day brunch and absolutely pleased with the food there. We opted in for the ginormous 2 lbs. of smoked Kielbasa and it didn't disappoint. Meat was not dry, perfectly spiced, and the sides that came with it (i.e., sauerkraut, bratkartoffeln) did complete the meal. A few other dishes that we shared and enjoyed: + Schnitzel Sandwich: probably one of the best schnitzel I've ever had. + Bronburger: be prepared, this will make you stuffed with the patty, bacon, cheese, sauerkraut, and bratkartoffeln in one plate. + Wurst Teller: because you can't go to a German restaurant without tasting its Wurst. What a great spot! This restaurant is a very authentic german place. They have a lot of germany and european beer options and the food was amazingly authentic. My husband and I traveled to Frankfurt few years ago and had lots of german food, and dinner here reminded us our to to Frankfurt. We tried the restaurant week menu and especially the summer soup was outstanding. Also I loved the menu is not something just smaller portion from their regular menu but they created new prefix menu for Boston dine out week! We ordered the LANGOS and received the URNEBES. Once I got the waitresses attention and told her we were brought the wrong item, she said I ordered the wrong item? For entrees we ordered the BRONBURGER, SCHNITZEL and SAUERBRATEN. The burger was well done and meat over peppered, the Schnitzel however was nothing to reave about as the sauce sounded delicious and there was a small spoonful on it, the Sauerbraten was a small slice of brisket with soaked red cabbage filling the plate. The dinner menu have a 3 courses option($38 per) which is worth to try, including one appetizer one entree and one dessert. I don't even know what to say... As a young adult, I lived in Germany for eight years. During that time, I traveled all over Bavaria. One of my fondest memories was eating Jaegerschnitzel (pork cutlet) & Wienerschnitzel (veal [baby cow] cutlet). These are both breaded then fried up and either served in pubs & restaurants with a plateful of large French fries with catchup & mayo on the side or from a street cart on Brotchen (a very popular bread). Either way, each serving size of meat was almost as large as a dinner plate, and always incredibly tender and out of this world delicious! A toast then, to Germany! I've not eaten either since then. Needless to say, I was very excited to find a German restaurant here in Boston, especially with a 4.6 star rating. On the entree menu was a Schnitzel meal, basically described as a crispy pork cutlet served with sourkraut & bratkartoffeln (home fries). Not what I was used to, but OK... When I received my delivery order, I was sorely disappointed. Crispy can't begin to describe the Schnitzel. It's supposed to be a cutlet, not a wafer. It was so over fried, it was dry and difficult to chew. Worse, I couldn't figure out if it tasted more like cardboard or fish, seriously. Then there was the bratkartoffeln. I don't think the dirt was scrubbed off of the potatoes, because that's all I tasted. I'm so glad my first experience eating these food items was in Germany itself. Fantastic Sunday Brunch!! We were very pleasant with the Sunday Brunch experience, as it was also a birthday celebration. Went as a big group of 10 and was seated promptly at the community table, which is adjacent to the bar. Our server was great and attentive as well. Our group ordered a little bit of everything from the menu, but our favorites had got to be their signature Kielbasa, Schnitzel Sandwich and German style Pancake. Portions are great and easily shareable, try to come here with a group of people so you got a taste of everything. We've been wanting to try Bronwyn for months now: Ever since finding a menu from last year's Oktoberfest and seeing this so called " Uber Okto-teller". Well, said fest has now begun so we went to start off the week properly: As in full of approximately 8 lbs. Great, sippable, tasty beer. The food was everything I'd wanted it to be: plentiful, tasty, and a smorgasbord of textures The 1 lb kielbasa was amazing. If a meat loaf made sweet meaty love to a spiced up smokey paprika fest of a sausage they would have this kielbasa as their tasty love baby. Pork shank skin cracked like glass. Pull apart meat, just salty enough. Absolute Porkfection. Meatballs...roasted apples...smoked turkey leg...And the sausage trio! So many flavours and textures amongst the sausages. Curry wurst was seasoned "just right" in our books. Not overpowering but definitely "there." The schnitzel was great as well. Perfect crunch, juicy meat. Definitely an "on night". If you go to a new spot definitely try a special. If you go to Bronwyn during Octobetfest, order the Uber Okto-teller. It's worth it. Food was decent. Pierogi's kind of tasted like a super doughy Americanized empanada. 2 huge empanadas-sorry, pierogis-were 21 dollars. Soft pretzel appetizer was excellent but the mustard it came with was SO spicy it was virtually inedible. Cheese dipping sauce was good, but a bit curdled and separated. Drinks were good. Beer flight was very good. Burger was probably an 8 out of 10. Server was grouchy and annoyed. Read this as a 4.5 review. As the only German restaurant in the greater Boston area, this place is a tad pricey. However, the Wurst Trio ($23) was very filling and satisfying, giving one the opportunity to try the currywurst, bratwurst, and kielbasa. German engineering extends to their sausages as they were filling and flavorful. The Bratkartoffeln potatoes were well done and could stand on its own or with the horseraddish. The spaetzle, from a prior trip here, is also very filling as a pasta loaded with cheese. Bronwyn is also the only place that I can find that carries Bembel with Care, a cider (apfelwein) that is complemented by tart cherry juice. Since you are grabbing German cuisine, it's almost a given that you would be drinking alcohol to complement this hardy, filling cuisine. The service was quite good and the food came out fairly quickly, considering the place was starting to get packed around 5 on a Sunday afternoon. My Irish wife planned a family outing for my Birthday and this midwestern German boy was very happy. I found the menu to be filled with the favorites of my childhood and executed with care. There is a detail to the freshness ay Bronwyn and it is obvious that the chef cares. The blood sausage was spiced perfectly and I only wish there was more on my sausage platter. The young people, save for my son, are MASSACHUSETTS born and raised so they were completely unfamiliar and wary of the menu. But, once I made comparatives to the Irish and Italian dishes they were familiar with they made choices they enjoyed. There were almost NO take home bags! Bronwyn has a very good brand and a strong commitment to keep themselves German and not bow down to the cretins that demand Quesadillas on all menus. After visiting Germany and the Czech Republic last summer, I was primed for a great beer and food experience at Bronwyn. One of the friends we went with had been there several times and gave it a rave review. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to that reputation for my wife and I. The draft beer selection is excellent (if a tad overpriced in places) if you're a German lager fanatic like me. I started out with the Schlenkerla Helles, which is not that common in the US, and it was a blissful blast from when I visited the Schlenkerla brewpub in the city of Bamberg in northern Bavaria. My second drink, the house beer, a helles lager from the Weihenstephaner brewery, was also a beauty to behold and imbibe. We got a few appetizers for our table of six to share. The krapfen, potato fritters, were a letdown, tasting like they had been defrosted and microwaved. The charcuterie plate was decent, if a bit skimpy. My wife got the schnitzel as her main course, and found it very dry and underseasoned. She travels to Germany frequently for work and has had schnitzel many times there, and thought this was a poor version of one of the country's national dishes. The brussels sprouts that were listed as coming with the dish were a paltry three or so. I got the halusky, beer-braised rabbit, and while it was good, the meat was a meager amount, some shreds and chunks buried under the potato pasta. Hazelnuts added some flavorful crunch to the dish, and the addition of some sauteed greens, not listed on the menu, were a welcome addition. The dessert menu was limited, just three items, and we didn't have any, but my wife proclaimed the coffee, from local roaster Karma Coffee of Sudbury, superb. Service was cheerful, knowledgeable, and prompt, and we were seated promptly at our reservation time. Our table, a rustic affair with long wooden benches, just what you'd find in many a German beer hall, was in the bar area, which was kind of loud, but I guess that's to be expected. Price per person with tip included due to our group size was about $60. While I might go back for a beer or two and perhaps an appetizer, I did not think it was a good enough value and experience for dinner that I'd return for a full meal. read more

So I'll preface this by saying German food is definitely not my favorite-- I came here because a friend and I like to try cuisines from as many different countries as we can find. That being said I didn't hate it. We got the wurst trio to get a good sample of German sausages: the currywurst was surprisingly delicious, it really did taste just like curry-- not a flavor I expect to find in sausage but it worked. The bratwurst and kielbasa were decent-- they went well with the potatoes which were almost really good: crispy on the outside, soft on the inside but just a bit too salty to really enjoy. We also got the Spaetzle which was delicious-- definitely only if you're in the mood for a mound of artery clogging cheese-- I did enjoy it but definitely not something I'd get on the regular. It's an absurdly overpriced restaurant catering to hipsters that have no idea what either (they are hugely different, BTW) those cuisines are like. my first time there, i was so excited to see Schweinshaxe on their king's feast dish (it's weird as Schweinshaxe is, traditionally, a poor person's meal). Anyway, it was dry and tough (meaning overcooked with high heat.) the rest was just OK. however, paying 13$ for a beer that i get for 3.5$-4$ really smacks of abuse. Now, the place no longer sells real entrees. It sells wursts at outrageous prices and icky pretzels that seem like they are reheated in a microwave or toaster oven. it's great that they have outdoor space. looks good. however, i don't have enough throw away money to support not authentic cooking and ripoff prices to be able to sit in a nice place. read more

This place is nice. It has a good location with available parking. They have indoor and outdoor dine-in. It is a cozy place. I and my boyfriend went there for a dinner. They have 3 courses meal for $35 per person. It is a good deal. I recommend going there when you are starving, otherwise, you most likely will not finish your food. The portions are big enough. For $35 you got an appetizer, main dish, and a dessert. We tried almost everything that they had on the menu. For appetizer we had Veg Pierogi (potato, cheese, sauerkraut & spinach filling, dill créme fraîche) and Reibekuchen (potato pancake, apple sauce, dill crème fraîche, horseradish). For the main dish, we ordered Schnitzel and Wurst Trio. And the final was desserts German Apfel Kuchen and Schokoladenmousse. Food was okay, I cannot say that it was extremely delirious but it was alright. Honestly, my boyfriend and I went there because we saw on the menu that they serve a Berliner Eisbein. Had a super disappointing experience here that has left a bad taste in my mouth. Originally tried to reserve a table for my birthday and called them saying I'd have a few friends coming..they told me to cancel it and come to the bar instead. I understand it was a busy Saturday for them but my friends and I were at the bar and treated like we were a complete nuisance. As if just our very presence was getting in the way of them serving other customers. I specifically told the bartender to charge whoever ordered separately. Because she neglected to, I ended up footing a portion of the bill. We ordered food and drinks. My friend had bought me a little cake for my birthday and the bartender outright said you can't eat that there (well the Mexican mezcal place 2 blocks away were super happy to have us order drinks, food, and allow my friends and I to have a taste of the cake). Super rude service, pierogis suck, pretzel is not all that great...and most importantly they made me feel super uncomfortable and unwelcome on my birthday. I'm not familiar with German cuisine but what I know about it (lots of wursts) doesn't appeal to me so after only hearing good things about this place and seeing the brunch menu I decided to try it out. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! We sat outside on a nice sunny day, sipped very good (for me) Ethiopian coffee and enjoyed delicious meals. This is the place you go for brunch to mix it up! The meats are all made there and the home made kielbasa is a must for meat lovers! My dish was the potato rösti served with fried eggs and a thick chunk of bacon. All delicious! As for me, this place definitely worths 5*. First we tried 5 types of beer, the server patiently introduce each one and give recommendation about the drinking order. To be honest, this is a fantastic beer trial. We ordered crispy pork cutlet. When you look at it, you might think this dish is rough. However, if you dig in, you will find out they use a sweet sour red cabbage to neutralize the fatty taste of the fired pork and the grilled sprouts provide the salty taste for the pork. Moreover, they add pork cutlet in this potato salad which just fulfill my meat fetish. Our main dish was multiple types of sausages. Let me call it "sausage party". It comes with chicken sausage, pork sausage and beef ones. Every time after we finished one dish, the server changed the utensils. The vote on whether the cuisine is entertaining appears to be mixed. Regardless, I'd say you'd have a very difficult time finding anything more authentic in the area. And that goes for the Central European cuisine as well. I was pleased to see a number of Czech entrees and beverages on the menu. Service was great. The drink menu was varied and interesting. This was a "Wurst week," so every day they featured a selection of 3 wursts/sausages in a meal selection including potatoes and sauerkraut for $20. I would have preferred German potato salad instead of fried potato wedges, but the wedges were quite tasty too. Though honestly, I could have eaten an entire meal of the pretzels. Today's special included some type of grilled liverwurst or some variant - I wasn't keen on that, but the other wursts/sausages were delicious. The pulled pork pierogies were equally appealing. Even though the dessert menu looked really interesting, and I liked their take on Black Forest Cake, this is one place where I'd recommend an after dinner digestif. Again, it was a nice, varied selection, and a lot of these were actually cheaper than the desserts - and after a full meal here the digestif would probably do you good. read more

So polite. So amazing. One corner seat at the bar. One hour wait that seemed like 15 minutes. We ordered beers: Weihenstephaner, a giant (litre) smooth lager, Monschoff kellerbier kulmbach - a hoppy sweet beau - and paulaner on tap. All amazing. Wurst. Bierwurst was explosively juicy - spices are subtle. The Zungenblutwurst the most tasty: a deep red color full of tender tongue and veal, a meaty concoction. The Knacker very porky. Amazingly thick and encased in snappy skin. Kielbasa is subtly full of pepper and another sweet flavor. Juices of heaven. A pretzel arrives and is the size of a frisbee. Dark crisp exterior, smooth soft interior. A sharp mustard provides the requisite spice and moisture. Jaegerschnitzel is fried to a golden brown exterior of tender morsels of veal. Juicy and a knife is unnecessary. Mushrooms are plentiful and give the crunchy walnuts balance as honey melds with meat and vegetables. A masterful plate of small, finely pounded meat. Spaetzel is firm yet soft. Smooth and buttery, the "dumplings" have a salty but minty flavor that brings the egg into contrast with the asparagus and onion. Bronwyn takes our taste buds to Germany in our first stop for Boston Restaurant week - 4.0/5 . . Boston's restaurant week is upon us and the first stop on our two week tour brought us to Bronwyn. We ordered from the prix fixe menu but after also seeing the great full menu, we couldn't help ourselves and added on a couple other items. The food highlights were: The Pierogi's - potato, cheddar and sauerkraut stuffed and served with the best restaurant Brussels sprouts we've ever had. The VegDog - regular menu item which was an awesome vegetarian "dog" (homemade bun, vegetarian sausage made from chickpeas, topped with lemon aoili). The Giant Currywurst - amazing homemade sausage with curry seasoning which did not overpower the great sausage flavor, served with perfectly fried potatoes, sauerkraut and curry ketchup. The food let downs: The Pickled Eggs - we were very excited for these, but the delivery was dry, lacked pickling flavor and featured a chocolate mustard that did not mesh well. Pickled eggs are so classic and shouldn't have too much flare. A simple homemade mustard would've gone a long way because simply put - chocolate does not go with eggs. The Desserts - the chocolate cake was kind of dry and did not offer much flavor and the Apple Strudel's outer pastry shell was overcooked in some areas and undercooked in others leaving it tough to enjoy. The interior was dressed up with traditional, classy, German decor which made for a fun and authentic experience. In addition to the great atmosphere, service may have been the best we've ever experienced! As for the food, one thing that really stuck out to us is that everything serve is homemade in haus (house). Overall, the food was great, but at times it lacked some flavor and follow through.
