We used to be members when my son was younger and I honestly don't remember the last time I was there. It was so nice to go back today and the weather was perfect! Low 50's and not a cloud in the sky. Wednesday is free day and we got there nice and early at 10 am. Park was pretty empty and we did the whole park. Unfortunately the monorail doesn't open for a couple of weeks. 10,000 steps and 3 hours. The crowd did pick up as we were leaving. My advice is bring your own food and drinks - park prices for the concession stand were standard- $5 for a bottle of water

Huge, well-maintained zoo. I can see why it is one of the top rated in the nation. I was there 5 hours and covered the entire grounds but rushed through a few places. You'd never guess that you're in the most populated city in North America. I entered via the southeast entrance - and there's a waterfall shortly after you go in. The original main entrance is about 100 yards beyond. Going this way, you're got tall trees all around and insulated from the city - feeling like you're away from it all. They have a nice mix of both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Some are on the older side, most have been updated over the last decade. There's a great lunch spot on the northern most side of the zoo in the center. Many choices. They do have a petting/feeding zoo for kids. I thought it was interesting that they have a separate building for Madagascar animals. The best recommendation I can make is to use the interactive map provided by the zoo, available on your phone. You share your location with the map, and tap on the animal you want to see and it will direct you to it live. Unfortunately, my battery was drained by the time I finished though.

On March 1, 26 was a great day! Not only being there with my kids, but also was there for a big surprise. Yes certain areas are closed due to the season, but there are also areas that are open that you can still visit. But trust me it's worth going once the weather gets better because there's a lot of outdoor activities and exhibits you can see. As we were enjoying some of the areas that were open, I was told there was a surprise I was going to do. I had to be there 15 minutes before my timeslot. The location was at the zoo center, which upon checking I was told what my surprise was. It was the sloth encounter! OMGGGGGG!!! They are my favorite! As we were waiting for the final members to arrive, it was time to head out and meet the famous HANS! When I tell you, I was antsy and very excited to meet him. As we were heading to the location, the workers were giving us a little background about the zoo and animals. As we arrived, I was feeling overwhelmed because I have never seen a sloth up close. As we went inside, we had to disinfect our hands and a shoes before sitting. Before HANS came out we got to meet two of the cutest armadillos I've ever seen and yes, this was my first time seeing them up close. After the workers gave us a little background about the armadillos, it was the moment of truth. HANS!!!!!!! For the most part we were able to see HANS eat a snack and unfortunately slept during the encounter but we were able to pet him and see him up close. We also got pictures with HANS! (YES, I CRIED!!!!!) This was such a beautiful experience and hopefully can do it again while Hans is up and slowly active . And yes, if this is something you are going to be doing I recommend to make your reservation ASAP because they get fully booked especially to see HANS! Thank you Bronx Zoo, will be coming back soon!

The train experience was by far one of the best experiences ever. I didn't know it existed. Theres a trolley that goes around on a tour, it is very well curated and has great views of the animals. It was a 20-25 minute wait to ride. The food/drink experience is all strategically placed. The food was better than I expected. I went for a work event and the staff went the extra mile. I was very impressed. Also glad they have beer and wine options lol. I would say if you are expecting this to be a 2/2.5 hour outing. Expect 4 hours and bring comfy sneakers. The biggest obstacle was parking- was designated to go to a rear parking lot which was a bit of a nightmare to get to.

Can book online on a Monday at 5pm, for the visit on the Wednesday the same week. Choose between "free"= limited admission tickets (need to pay $7 for each star attraction if wanted), or "$17.95 for zoo admission" = includes all the premium star attractions (great deal! Plan to see all of the paid attractions). Can get timed-tickets on other days as well- check website for regular prices. Faster entry after scanning ticket QR codes. Brought food/drinks which are allowed (or can buy at kiosks but pricey). Hats, fan, sunblock, water helped bec. it got pretty hot. The animals usually are not as active at around noontime too so we did the indoor exhibits then. Unlike years ago, noticed less animals indoors and outdoors on our 2 visits this summer. Took the train- a bit more than 1-hr ride from Queens, ok since we got seats. Parking available for a fee, if prefer to drive.

Wonderful zoo with amazing enclosure and wildlife treatment I've ever seen. I've been to a lot of zoos and this is by far the best! Didn't even have enough time to see it all, perfect all day trip. Also loved that they would show you how they acclimate new birds by spraying windows, amazing work

Try to go here with the kids once or twice every year It's great on how they maintain such a good facility to keep the kids engaged and also introduce seasonal entertainment such as dinosaurs or Halloween nights etc Love this place for myself and the kids

I've always heard about the Bronx Zoo, both good and bad things but had never visited. In less than a month, I've now had the pleasure of going twice. The first time as a guest of a member and the 2nd time with a large group of elementary and high school students. I planned the student trip through their educational department and it was a seamless experience thanks to Jennifer. Jennifer was amazing, she was able to book our trip even though it was very last minute. Thank you Jennifer for all of your help and kindness! It's best to arrive around 10am when the place is massive. There are so many different types of animals to see. I really liked that they are in large open areas that reflect their natural environment. It felt like we were coming to their world and not that the animals were caged up for our entertainment. The monorail is a great experience focused on Asian wildlife. The hippopotamus, elephant and wild horses were some of my favorites. I really liked the Congo gorilla forest as well. I highly recommend the dinosaurs exhibit as well. There are plenty of restrooms and seating areas available. I recommend to bring your own food since the food for sale is overpriced as expected.

I vacillate between my support of zoos and revulsion. I hope conservation efforts do more good than harm. I love animals and with their habitats disappearing maybe zoos are a good last ditch effort. The Bronx appears to keep the animals in a healthy environment. The park itself is clean. Of note could use a few more restrooms.

Came to the holiday light show and it was so beautiful!!! Definitely chilly but it was a great evening. So much to do and see the lights are so special and there's a lot of treats that they usually don't have during the day like hot chocolate smores churros chili lentil soup! Hot and spiked cider

At Bronx Zoo there are a lot of animals in the wild right here in the Bronx. I love it!

My family came today for their Boo at the Zoo event. So many cute Halloween things to do for families and children. My son loves this event and looks forward to it every year. This year they had a candy trail which was cute. Can't wait to come back to the holiday lights event

Came with the family today and had a blast! Parking was super easy and affordable. The facilities were so clean, and everything was reasonably priced. There were an abundance of animals, easily laid out, and the highlight was the dinosaur exhibit. Highly recommend for a nice family day!

    Yes you can upgrade

What's it like as a member to reserve tickets during this pandemic and limited entry? Is it worth buying the membership now?

It is 100% worth it and easy to do. I always book a day in advance but aside from school breaks they always have space and times for my family. It has been very easy to book tickets.

No , you can pay card

Fastest way to get there from Penn Station (public transportatio )?

The fastest way would be to take the metro north to Fordham Plz/ Fordham university stop. When you arrive there, take the bx12 lcl, bx9 or bx22 east to Southern blvd where you will see a huge sign that says Bronx zoo.

Can we bring some food inside?

    Absolutely! Picnic Time!!!

    Is admission free for students?

Only for students enrolled in a NYC colleges or NYC residents enrolled in non-NYC colleges.

Is it really free admissions on Wednesday?

One Wednesdays there is a donation- based/ pay what you like policy. If what you’d like to pay is $0.00, then yes, admission is free.

Are there kangaroos at this zoo?

No, here is the list: https://bronxzoo.com/animals

Can you bring bags to the Zoo? I'm bringing my 7th grade class so I wanted to make sure they don't have to lock them in lockers

    yes

If I'm 17 can I go without adults?

Current (2020) guidelines are 18 and up - younger than that supposed to be with an adult.

We parked at the zoo and took the train to the aquarium. The zoo closes at 4:30 can you get to your car after the zoo closes?

It depends how much after. An hour, yes as many people are still in the park and on rides after the park officially closes. Two hours or more will definitely be a problem.
