It is comforting to know that she was so well cared for her last year of life. Our Belmont experience started off in such a positive way. The team was outstanding about helping us get mother settled from the West Coast in an emergency situation. They even loaned us furniture for her apartment until her things arrived. Once we were at Belmont memory care, the considerations continued. Mother had unique California natural food preferences and the Kitchen team was super about filling her requests for salads and salmon and vegetables. She loved the food! We cannot thank the memory care team enough. Our mother lived most of her life independently and alone. The memory care activities every day kept her involved. We saw her thrive having people around her and she lost much of her previous fear/anxiety. My heart smiles when I remember the loving hugs that the memory care assistants gave mom. She'd hold her arms up and they would hug her and tell her she was loved. It was beautiful. Her health situation changed as she became prone to falls and broke her hip. The Belmont nursing staff knew how to handle the situation. Many facilities do not want someone who has both dementia and significant physical limitations. The Belmont team and the nursing staff welcomed her back from rehab with open arms. We will always be grateful to them. Speaking medically, the Belmonts in-house doctor - Dr. Randy Villanueva - was the perfect doctor for us. His medical skills, experience with seniors and his compassionate heart are an amazing combination. He is a gift to his patients and their families. We miss our mother immensely, but it is comforting to know that Belmont made her last year the best it could be. The gift of care and kindness was a priceless one.

My mother was admitted to the rehab part of this facility. The front desk staff was friendly and…read morethe speech therapist was very professional and kind. The reason for one star is because overall the place was a train wreck. As soon as we arrived she was greeted in her room and immediately asked to remove her clothing so they could examine every inch of her skin which seemed disrespectful and humiliating. The first night when we used the nurses call button no one showed up because of miscommunication. Afterwards response was slow. The nurses were sweet but weren't knowledgable about my mother's injuries and acted as if they didn't know how to properly move her. Once she was picked up in a wheel chair without foot pads and her feet got stuck underneath the chair which could have hurt her ankles, further injured her hip or caused her to fall forward. After discovering this the nurse asked her to just ride with her feet lifted.My parents went to the cafe for lunch which they strongly encourage and they were never waited on and returned to the room to eat a burger that was brought in for them. They were then told it is discouraged to eat in your room. The handle of a chair in the room was loose and upon using the faucet in the bathroom the cold water handle fell off. This was reported to the staff and it was never fixed. The sink in the bathroom was not wheel chair accessible so that my mother was unable to wash her hands. We were not allowed to watch her occupational, speech or physical therapy which seemed odd. It would have been helpful since she has dementia and we could know her abilities and how to help her. Also she was very anxious and didn't want to be separated from us but they didn't seem empathetic at all. At 4:30am someone loudly entered her room to empty trash bags and was banging around which woke us both up. At 5:30am another person opened the door while we were sleeping and began yelling that it was time for a medication. We were first told that no one was allowed to stay overnight with her but made an exception when we refused to leave her alone due to her injuries and dementia. When we decided to take her from there we were told that she had to stay until Monday ( it was Friday) so that the doctor who only comes once a week could discharge her. We found out later that the PA could discharge her so we had her discharged. I would be very wary of leaving a loved one here!

When my wife was suffering in agony Tina said she was too busy with paper work to attend to her. The delay in getting her to the hospital caused more agony than was necessary. I wish I had called 911 .

The people at The Gardens are amazing! The stress of all the health issues my father had were indescribable. But the staff here are amazing! Everyone we have been in contact with have been so terrific. And I have to say, Andrew, the head nurse, has been such a blessing. He has treated us with such kindness, respect and care during this crazy time. And with the world as it is today amidst the COVID -19 crisis, he still figured out a way to help us so wonderfully. Very bad experience at Hearthside with my mother. She fell in the bathroom, cracking her skull, in…read morethe middle of the night. They called me to come see her and make the decision whether or not to call an ambulance. When I go there she was in bed, no one was with her and her pillow was covered in blood. I called 911, they told me to put compression on it. I had to go find someone to let the EMT's in so that I could go back and keep compression on her wound. I spoke to the Administrator afterwards, she told me she would look into it and get back to me. She never did. I have since been told that the way it was handled was against the laws of assisted living facilities. They MUST call 911, and then the family, when a head wound is involved. Several weeks later, she developed a UTI, and I think it's because they did not bath her on schedule. Again she went to the ER, and spent a week in the hospital and a month in rehab. She's now in a different facility and I pray things will be different.
