I called Richlonn's tire and service, they said we can send a tow truck to pick it up right away. The tow service they use is Speedy Peedy and I can see why. The tow truck and its operator were first-rate. The driver couldn't have been nicer nor done a better job of hooking the car up and pulling it onto the flatbed truck. My car, actually it's a truck based SUV, is all-wheel drive and the driver said don't worry it won't be a problem and it wasn't. He ratcheted all points of the car down, and it was good to go. It turned out to be a fuel pump that went bad, thankfully it was fixed very quickly.

I want to start by reminding everyone that Wisconsin has a Move Over law. If you're on a multi…read morelane highway and you see a disabled vehicle, police, EMS, fire, road repair, tow truck, postal vehicle or whatever on the side of the road you should move over a lane for safety. If you're already in the next lane, make room for drivers to move away from the side of the road. I feel very strongly about this because tow truck drivers have families to go home to. Anyway, it was a dark and stormy night. Maybe I should have started with that. My car electrical system warning light came on giving me about 20 seconds to pull to the side of the Interstate in the Pewaukee area before my car completely died. I would later find out it was the alternator. AAA couldn't find any available tow trucks, and running through the area tow trucks on YELP made me realize that a lot of towing companies list some bogus address so that a search by distance yields some really inappropriate phone numbers. One company in Whitewater WI actually had me on the phone for 10 minutes before admitting it would take a couple days for them to come and get me. I was way down the list (yes, sorted by distance) when Apple Towing answered on the second ring, helped me figure out where I was, and dispatched a brave tow truck driver in under half an hour. In order to hook my car up, at one point his head was maybe a foot and a half away from idiots zipping by at breakneck speeds reckless texting-driving in the pouring rain. He towed me all the way to my neighborhood mechanic, Rowell's, in Milwaukee for a pretty reasonable price. I tipped him the tiny amount of cash I had on me, and he graciously thanked me like I was generous. When you're completely at the mercy of someone who could totally rip you off, that's when common decency is most appreciated.

Worst towing experience of my 44 years…read more I called the day prior to get a tow scheduled for today. Upon scheduling for 5:30 pm, the dispatcher told me I could pay the driver by cash or card at time of tow. So 6:30 pm rolled around I called to check the status of the tow because I had an appointment where I would not be available for the next couple of hours. They said the truck would arrive soon and around 7:10 they showed up. They hooked up the vehicle and started to drag it up the ramp when I told him that I had the key and to allow me to put it in neutral so it can move up the ramp freely. Finally after getting in and putting the vehicle in neutral got it on the flatbed. I followed the truck to the shop where work is to be done and maneuvered the vehicle off the flatbed into a parking spot. I waited for the driver to get his stuff together and asked him to move over to allow other people at the shop to leave the parking lot he trapped them in. After he moved, I filled out the forms and dropped my keys in the Dropbox. I went to pay the driver who told me the only way he could take payment is cash and told me to call the shop. Since I was on the way to my appt and didn't have my phone with me I didn't see them calling 19 times. And the messages they left. Needless to say, I was pulled out of my appointment at 7:45 to be notified by my daughter that the van had been dropped off on the street. Charged full price to have my priceless vehicle towed back and forth across the city because I was in a jam. Thanks for taking my money and treating my vehicle like crap and messing up my evening!
