Ponkapoag Golf Course - 4th tee box

Since it was a hot day, my friends and wanted to golf later in the day with a cart. According to…read morethe website, Ponkapoag had a tee time of 5:10 pm for 9 holes with a cart available. We booked through an app and it came out to $88 for three - not bad. However, when we arrived, we were told carts stop around 4:30 pm and instead were given push carts. Since we did not book directly with them, the person working couldn't refund us the cart prices and the app did not have an option to dispute a charge. We noticed that the majority of the hole's putting green had either very tall grass, it was brown and dead, or there were dirt patches which made the game more difficult. The fairways on some of the holes were good, and for others, lots of poorly maintained areas. We were grateful we had a map on the scorecard since it wasn't always intuitive on how to get to the next hole or the shape of the hole. In terms of difficulty, I would say this was a 6/10 course, but I am not an expert so take my opinion with a grain of salt. We lost a lot of balls since most of the holes have tall grass or shrubs on either side and we sucked at hitting straight. Their parking lot is big, with some spots in the shade to help keep our cars cooler. They did stop cart services by the time we started golfing, and there were no water jugs so definitely bring your own water to stay hydrated.

I was there to cover a wedding photographer and I was there early so I can scout nice place for the photo shoots. The main function hall is nice and big. What I like are the parquet floors and the big oval chandeliers. The decorations on the tables are very nice too with big dinner plates for the guests. This room is adjacent to another big but a little smaller room. I do not remember about the food. So I would assume it is fair- not bad but nothing spectacular as I did not remember it.I do not recall having to call a Thorny Lea staff as never had any issues. I now remember the nice Christmas trees. That is memorable to me as they really spent money on it. I give Thorny LEa 4 stars. This is roland of roland video and photo out of Dedham. Cheers!!!

We've hosted many events in the private function rooms, including birthdays, funeral brunches & bridal showers. I've also attended a wedding at Thorny Lea and all I have are good things to say about the food, staff & space. The club takes care of its guests and visitors alike. If you are an outsider, however, you'll surely feel even more like one during the busy seasons when all of the members are on their game and taking over the place they likely call "home" for 5-8 months out of the year.

We did have to wait for an open bay, that took "..." minutes, a bit longer than I would normally wait but the husband was adamant about hanging out. The facility is well kept inside, the staff stayed busy. They have TVs everywhere so there is absolutely no way you're missing that game. Our waitress was wonderful, kept our drinks full and made sure our orders were good to go. Our area was clean and updated. The food was ok, some items were cold when we got them but otherwise good. Loved their dirty sodas, enough to order more. Overall a great visit.

Most of the check in process was done through the topgolf app and our phones which was quick. You can also check in at the front desk. The service was great all around that we experienced and you have a server dedicated to your bay that you could order drinks and food from. One person in my party ordered 2 drinks and said they were really good. We saw a couple of parties adjacent to us order bar food and snacks as well and the food looked decent. There are a lot of different games and versions you can pick and choose from when playing. I would definitely come back as this place is good for groups and social outings.
