Duane is an experienced professional who knows what hes doing. Home depot and a few other places didn't have fire approved gates for some odd reason and 1 or 2 places that did were crazy expensive. The price Duane gave me seemed reasonable so I went along with Brooklyn Security gates. Best choice I made. Everything went smoothly. I have large windows and he measured them and a few days later put up my brand new gates. He shared a couple of interesting stories with us. Such a cool guy. Thank you Duane again! Wow how rude! I just called this company to get a quote on getting window bars put in. I explained to whoever picked up the phone that I was looking to get bars put on my windows. He asked me if I was looking for a cheap junk job or if I was looking to get it done right at a decent price. I told him I was looking to get it done right. He went on to explain to me that the bars with the extension for the AC is $465 per window and the straight ones are $275 per window. I told him well that is a little pricy for me because I just bought this house and am not sure I can afford this right now, but before I could even finish what I was saying he started to berate me. He went on to say "So right now all you're doing is shopping around for a junk job and if that's the case then you need to call a cheap Chinese company.....etc". Before he could finish I shook my head in disbelief and hang up. I thought to myself is this guy for real? Well I went on to read their reviews on yelp to find out that the one person that gave them a negative review was pretty much treated the same way. Someone form the company responded to her review and called her troll amongst other things. Unbelievable that a company can be so unprofessional. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

I am not sure how this business would receive bad reviews. I explained I do not have any experience with getting fire escape gates. I am a woman and was not treated any differently. He was very straight up, nice and accommodating from the first call. I was running late and not a problem. Installed a good safe lock on my door and chain. I do not expect anything less from the widow gates. They will be custom made and installed within days. He responds immediately to emails and picks up the phone. I believe the price is fair considering the quality I am expecting as well as the quality of service. I did feel bad because I have not started to move so could not even offer the man a glass of water but he didn't seem to care. Just to add since he knew from the first call I was not familiar with having fire escape gates he did speak to me about air conditioning and all my options. read more

I've recently moved from my neighborhood of 17+ years to a new apartment elsewhere in Brooklyn. Needless to say I was concerned about the security of my new home. Fire escapes to me are total break-in opportunities for thieves. Even if someone broke in and took something stupid like a blender, it's still a violation and I want that prevented to the best of my possibilities. The new school fire department approved gates are the way to go. Forget the accordion gates from 1955. Enter Duane Quinn...yeah he was late for our initial meeting and window measurements, but if you live in Brooklyn and NYC in general, you understand traffic, parking and a packed workday. He made up for that minor detail by being a cool person, informative, fair with the prices and a locksmith as well for a bonus, since I needed my locks replaced and they were no quick fix. Jump to a few days later...actually the day before I moved in....right on time as Duane told me they would be! Points scored right there. So the gates got put in smoothly and securely. I'm happy they look stylish and very well made. He came totally prepared too, right down to having some touch-up paint for little nicks and details. More points scored. All the while we shot the breeze about Brooklyn, music and other things, which is a good vibe across the board when you're paying someone and they're in your home working. Back to the locksmith part...I happened to have my new locks, but didn't realize the alterations that needed to be done to the door. The tools necessary. I wouldn't have been able to get it happening on my own until I got the right tools. Luckily, Duane was prepared and stepped up to handle the job. I'm no stranger to being around blue collar work and craftsmen, so I noticed a few things... (1) This dude has years of experience. I saw it in the way he knew what the particular job required. (2) He took his time and did the job RIGHT. Very important. (3) He was honest, explained what he was doing and did the best job possible. Now that in my eyes is worth the money and worth a good review and recommendation on Yelp. If you need security gates and or a lock situation dealt with, don't hesitate to call Brooklyn Security Window Gates. I was broken into and distraught- called a company to find out they wouldn't help me in the interim until the actual gate was installed. A cordial and sympathetic installer named Duane came and put in a temporary fix until the gate was ready. EDIT 2/8/11- pending completion of the prepaid gate and new lock install I will complete this review. EDIT 2/11/11- took 10 days but the job is now complete. If you are looking for security and don't mind waiting to get the work done, this is the way to go. He requires 1/2 of the payment up front in cash, that said I paid IN FULL UP FRONT hoping to show my urgency in my situation. It seems this doesn't matter as much as their comfort with "finding parking in the area". These are facts and this was my experience. Edit 4/21/15 I DARE you to post my information on here. Not only will you be charged with harassment-but all of your hilarious soliloquies will live in infamy. This guy is a hardcore psychopath. I'm glad he has all of the facts messed up and he lacks the brain capacity to remember exactly what I told him I did for a living. He followed up to write a dissertation. I'll leave you with this-anyone who had that much time on his hands to be that much of a vile human being-don't let that person in your home, near your children, much less trust them with the security of your place. I just had the EXACT same experience as these previous posters... my opening line to them: me: Hi, i'm calling to get a general idea for how much it would cost for 2 windows guards on my new house him: So that's ALL the info you give me and you expect me to give you a price? LOL.... these are the first words out of his mouth... are these people serious?!?!?! I could go on to describe how he hung up on me b/c I said i'm shopping around. Sorry Ross (one of the other yelp reviews), i have to disagree... there's nothing wrong with saying you're shopping around. Seriously, enough sed....Don't buy from these bozos. I needed some security gates taken down as part of a requirement from my lender to get through underwriting. They met me at the property to provide an estimate. He was consistently late for every appointment but he charged me fair and reasonable price. I ended up needing him to take down one more gate afterwards and he was flexible and understood the urgency and did it the following day. read more

We loved the work BSWG did for us. We need two exterior security gates on the lower back windows of our brownstone. I called them, and they got back to me shortly with a quote (very competitive prices) that they stuck with. From initial call to installation, the job took about 7 days. These guys are such ass holes. I literally just got off the phone with them after being on the phone for less than 2 minutes explaining what I'm looking for. I'm not a window gate expert I'm a creative individual looking for some security in my office - apparently this guy only wants to do business with people who know EVERYTHING there is to know about windows... I told him I needed a gate for a 10 foot by 5 foot window (I'm sure this is quite costly and would have been good business) Instead of working it out himself he says that I have to tell him what the measurements are in inches... I proceeded to give him the measurements in inches and after explaining that it's a double pane window he told me to find someone else and hung up on me - save your breath and don't even try calling them. I wish I could give zero stars. I emailed for a quote, was given one price, emailed again and was told three times that amount. I called to verify what Duane was talking about, and he hung up the phone on me. I was 100% polite and cordial and was completely disrespected.
