I am typically shy and easily discouraged but Vel has no problem when it comes to helping me, which makes me feel 100 times better. Absolutely wonderful place to learn the art of pole dancing. In an effort to gain upper body strength and learn pole dancing, I found this establishment through yelp. They offer a great package for beginners and have very convenient times for all.. The location is small but there is more than enough space to practice your moves. I signed up for a three intro classes with Kheri and have had a great time; Kheri is a wonderful teacher who not only remains patient and helpful throughout the class but she creates amazing routines that are sexy yet graceful. Val along with the other staff and students also provide an encouraging, fun atmosphere as well. The lessons consists of a warm-up period, pole moves and a simple dance routine that summarizes what we just learned. I plan to continue my lessons here and would definitely recommend anyone to learn with them as well. read more

I just took my first dance class here last night. Although I was extremely nervous, the instructor was so helpful, patient and gracious in teaching the foundations of the art. She also made a few jokes in between routines to ease the air of nervousness that my friend and I (both beginners) were giving off. It made everyone in the room more comfortable and open to attempting the jumps/spins. I was so pleased with my experience at the end of my first class that I purchased three more classes on the spot. I bought a groupon for 10 classes, I'm about halfway through my classes (sad it's almost over). Vel is a really good & patient teacher. I learned pretty quickly and am moving up to the beginner level. I've taken a pole dancing class before & all we did was spin on the pole for an hour. Brooklyn Pole has been amazing, and it's only been my 3rd week! Where do I start: After my first class my body felt like it got hit by a bus, but it was because I worked EVERY muscle in my body (even the ones I didn't even know I had). My teacher Nkenge is amazing, she is very patient with each student no matter if it's your first time or your 6th, and the atmosphere is welcoming and judge-free. There are about 6 poles and it is very intimate which helps with learning routines and the classes are small so each student can really exercise and build with each week. I bought a special on Living Social for this studio: PROS: The classes are small and intimate; just the right size for individual instruction/coaching. The atmosphere helps with putting you in a sexy mood so you can do your best with the moves that are taught to you. The instructors are attentive and nothing short of AMAZING! No matter what class you take (there are also fitness classes in addition to the pole, chair, booty pop and burlesque classes), you are NEVER made to feel like you've taken on too much. Any size, any age can learn. You progress at your own level. The instructors are patient and make you feel comfortable which in turn helps your confidence level. The students encourage each other, which is another plus -- it starts to feel like family once you start attending on a steady basis. The studio is close to mass transit (several blocks from Eastern Parkway and in between the Kingston and Utica Avenue trains stops on the 3 train, as well as the B17, 43, 45 and 46 buses). CONS: Actually, there are none. I've been attending for a little over a year and it's one of the best experiences I've had! It is an advantage since the class is synchronized and there is not shame if you have less/ more skills (or nothing at all!). On 7/14/12, I had a bachelorette party for my cousin at BFDS and being the skeptic I am, I "dropped by" to checked out the place a week before the event. The owner, Vel, was very welcoming when I called to say "hey I'm in the neighborhood can I stop by in 15 minutes". I was pleasantly surprised by the neat and clean studio space and Vel's professionalism. We were a mixed group (30-50's year old) which I thought would be a challenge but Vel & Ashanti (her assistant) were amazing! The routines were challenging but simple enough to follow and more importantly it was VERY tasteful, sensual and classy. Vel seem to tailor the evening to our group. Almost everyone signed up for additional classes and everyone said it was the BEST bachelorette party they've attended. I knew the party was a success because I had people calling me on Sunday morning saying "girl, I heard the party was the boom, why wasn't I invited?". I loved this place. When the cab pulled up to the house in which it is held, I was like, hang on..not sure... but there it is, a little studio in a mostly residential neighborhood. I went in and watched another class end. I was impressed. The teacher who taught my class, newbie pole basics, seemed to be a pro. All of us newbies were a liiitle bit shy when the teacher said, while waiting for the music to get to the part where we would start, 'just freestyle a little bit here," and began shaking her legs in a way we had all seen on music videos. The class wasn't really feelin that as far as trying out here right away. No biggie, just funny. It's actually really nice and rare to have an open atmosphere where you can walk around in bootie shorts with other women and shake your assets. The teacher taught us a step by step little routine and we had fun learning it. I was proud of what I could do and I think most people were surprised to learn both how much better you are than you would think and how winded you will get, quickly. Vel proved that fitness is sexy and pole dancing is not only fun but it's a serious workout. I have the worst coordination, flexibility, and upper body strength... but coming here on a weekly basis has truly strengthened all those skills and increased my confidence in my own strength and sexiness. Pole fitness is much harder than it looks, but you will leave each class with all of your muscles aching in all the right places! The instructors here are patient and persistent in terms of encouraging/pushing you to try new routines and moves that may be out of your comfort zone. The staff here is super friendly as well! I booked a last minute studio rental for my cousin's Bachelorette party at the Brooklyn's Finest Pole Dancing Studio this past weekend and I will say it was an EPIC BLAST!!!! The owner Vel was very patient working w/me while trying to organize the event in 4 days. Vel is not only the owner , she is the instructor and a very good one I might add. I've been pole dancing before; but she was the 1st instructor to really take her time to coach all of the girls and myself in assuring we had the right formation. When you hear "Pole Dance studio", Brooklyn (Crown Heights at that) is the last place you would think of; but this studio is Brooklyn's "Newest Best Kept Secret", which I am sure wont stay a secret for too long much longer especially with the way Ms. Vel runs her business BFPDS is sure to be a major HIT within a few months. VERYYY UNPROFESSIONAL the instructors speak to you as if they are running a free program instead of treating you like a customer who is paying money to a business for a service. Also classes are an hour of which the first 30 minutes is spent stretching leaving you only 30 minutes to practice and usually you are sharing a pole with another student so in all actuality you might get 15 mins on the pole.Also I took a chair/burlesque class where the instructor didnt even have a lesson planned out she actually would make moves up as we went along UNPROFESSIONAL I expect to pay my money and you should take your business serious enough that you actually take the time out to have a lesson planned out before we get there instead of having the students wait for you to come up with a move for the routine. I started attending a pole class in manhattan these teachers are AMAZING you get your moneys worth you are respected and trained by professional dancers .Trust me ladies dont waste your time or money at this imititation of a dance studio you will leave disappointed wanting every penny of your money BACK. read more
