I'm terrified of heights. You know how I found out? At the top of the Eiffel Tower. So why am I at a trapeze school? Because I'm trying to face my fear. The instructors are VERY nice! They're very helpful and sweet, especially Annie, Travis and Randy. I know I was a bit of a handful because I would hesitate to jump when I was at the top but they put up with me. Its an amazing experience, I recommend it to anyone even if you're scared of heights! Also, if you sign up for a second class at the end of your first class, your third one is free!!!!

I went to the new Brooklyn branch of the Trapeze School NY over the weekend (about a block from a G train stop). If you are looking for something to do on a weekend that breaks from the usual norm of "things to do" and want to get the blood flowing and scare the crap out of yourself, then head on over to the Trapeze School. I had an absolute blast. It sounds nuts - swinging upside down from a huge swing, learning back flips and stuff, but trust me it is awesome and it is very safe. These guys are experts - all of the instructors have years and years of trapeze experience. They explain everything very well from safety to the maneuvers we did in the class. They are also experts in working with people that are afraid of heights or falling, etc. They make everyone comfortable and ensure that everyone has a great time. I will also stress that safety is a huge thing for them. The whole place is set up with procedures and harnesses and ropes and color-coded stuff to ensure that everyone stays safe. Our 2 hour beginner session had about 10 people and 3 instructors. We started off slowly and built up the complexity of what we were doing as we went. The instructors were not only great motivators but great communicators - they were really good at giving instruction as a team, not shouting over each other or giving conflicting instructions. The 2 hours flew by and I highly recommend the Trapeze School to anyone!!

    I believe I can fly.

What an amazing experience. My wife and I came here with 2 other couples on a Sunday early afternoon. The NY trapeze school had 2 activities in which you can engage in, the circus like trapeze and the trampoline. Our party came here to do the trampoline. We had a 1 hour time frame where we were being instructed on how to properly jump and make nifty moves on this Olympic size trampoline. The instructor was very informative and easy going. We went one at a time and and were able to perform 90% of the moves. My wife had such a great time she ended up buying 2 more one hour sessions. Highly recommend it.

Review Highlights - Trapeze School New York: Brooklyn

(Somehow we were the only 2 people in the class so we were able to get the whole 2 hours to ourselves!) Body awareness is super helpful, even if you're not all that athletic.

They hogged the machines and treated the gym like a nightclub. In December 2024, I stopped going there. Crunch has two types of gyms: Signature clubs and non-Signature clubs. Signature clubs charge five times the monthly fees as non-Signature clubs, even though there's little difference between the two (it's not like your muscles magically grow faster at a Signature club). After the Rochdale debacle, I looked to join a non-Signature club at a location close to Manhattan and near a subway station. I chose Crunch Greenpoint. At Crunch Greenpoint, the people are friendly, the gym is fairly clean, and no one hogs machines. There are plenty of machines that will help you attain your goals- whether it's to get stronger, get toned, run faster, or lose weight. Overall, I recommend Crunch Greenpoint. With that said, it has quite a few flaws. The gym isn't ADA compliant. There's one rickety elevator that goes from the main fitness room to the basement. It does not go all the way to the entrance of the gym. This isn't an issue for 90% of the people who regularly go to the gym. However, there are people who work out despite having mobility issues due to an injury or a physical disability. I also dislike the layout of the gym. The gym is basically split into two floors. The treadmills, ellipticals, and most of the other machines are on the main floor. The bench press, smith machine, heavy weights, and group fitness room are in the basement. It's a pain in the ass having to go from the main room to the basement (and vice versa) to complete my workout. Also, unlike every other Crunch that I've been to, there's no water bottle refill station (there are fountains, but I'm not comfortable using them to refill my water bottle since people put their mouths near the spout). On that note, I look forward to my next workout at Crunch Greenpoint.

The recent "renovation" is not an upgrade, it's a complete downgrade that destroyed what made this gym unique and functional. The biggest issue is the turf. Moving the entire turf downstairs into a hot, poorly ventilated, dark basement makes absolutely no sense. There is no space to move at all. You can barely put a mat down without stepping onto someone else. The turf area is now a 3rd of its original size and the room feels cramped and borderline unusable. It's impossible to do HIIT, sled work, mobility, or any meaningful functional training. This decision alone has eliminated the soul of the gym. Upstairs is now crammed with machines, far too many for the amount of space. Instead of creating a better flow, the floor is overcrowded and chaotic; it feels like every inch was filled just for the sake of adding more equipment, not improving the member experience. What used to be a small but energetic and community-oriented gym now feels suffocating and disorganized. What's frustrating is that Crunch Greenpoint did need an upgrade, but this wasn't it. A real upgrade would have been removing some of the unnecessary machines and bringing in better functional training equipment, not burying the turf in a dungeon with no room to move. Crunch Greenpoint used to have character. It had a great vibe. It wasn't huge but it worked because the layout made sense. Now it feels like the gym identity was erased overnight. I genuinely don't understand the reasoning behind these changes, especially the decision to move the turf downstairs. It's a waste of space and a complete step backward. I do hope that these changes are reconsidered. The renovation did not modernize the gym, it dismantled what made this place great and worth coming to.

Not only is it one of the most fun ways to get an hour of exercise in--seriously, it's like an hour-long dance party, minus the hangover the next day--it's also an incredibly positive, uplifting space where everyone is welcome and no one is judged. A rarity in New York--better (and cheaper!) than therapy! So what does it mean to "Dancorcize"? Well, it's an hour-long class with aerobic, choreographed routines--nothing too difficult and if it's your first class, by the end of the song, you'll know the routine. And if you don't, no biggie--as Debbie always says, the only rule is that you're having fun. The best part is really Debbie's musical selection. She's also a DJ, so knows exactly the right way to incorporate familiar and not-so-familiar songs, from reggaeton to '70s disco to '80s pop to all your current favorite songs. By the end of the class, the mood is akin to the happiest and most alive you've ever felt on the dance floor. She ends it with yoga-based stretching (she's also a certified yoga instructor) and a chill, always-welcome savasana with an ever-changing soundtrack. What more could a stressed-out New Yorker ask for? The space is a huge gym at a super cool non-denominational church across from the lovely McGorlick park in Greenpoint. The crowd is a fun mix of easy-going, dance-loving people of all ages. Bring sneakers, wear your bright colors and bold patterns and don't forget water and a towel, because you will definitely work up a good sweat. Everybody dance now!

It was such an amazing, serene and spiritually stimulating experience. Cheers to Debbie and Dancorcism!

My only complaint was with the front desk and with the initial reservation where I was told to bring a towel and told to make sure to tip accordingly. I'm aware that there are loads of people who do not know proper tipping etiquette but I'm not one of those people. I purchased two separate Groupon's, for two different people, paid twice the tax and gave twice the recommended tip so it didn't make sense to be told that only one towel would be provided. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. I'm aware, obviously that Erica played no part in any of what occurred prior to my actual detox experience and I wanted to be fair and rate it solely based on that. All in all, I would definitely return and definitely recommend. Thank you Erica for making our experience an enjoyable one.
