I was a resident of Brookside Square apartments in West Concord, MA, for about 5 and a half years. During that time, there were several staff changes, and I found that who worked there had a significant impact on how happy I was with my living situation. The original team, led by Sarah, the Property Manager, and John, the Maintenance Supervisor, was absolutely stellar! These professionals were quick with a smile and a friendly greeting and were happy to assist with the occasional apartment issue, as well as just great people who I would always stop for a quick hello. They were what I would call the "Icing on the Cake." When the original team left, there were various other people, but whether temporary people or "permanent," Sarah and John were a tough act to follow. It became difficult to get help at times, when help was needed, and that is not what I had become accustomed to. (I know, don't end a sentence with a preposition...) Staffing changes were typically when I and other residents who I talked to were less than happy with apartment problems that did not get addressed. Skipping forward in time, the current Property Manager, Andrew, is a Gem. John, the Maintenance Supervisor, was also quick to address maintenance issues. I was very happy that Brookside had finally gotten it right when Andrew was brought on board. He is a terrific combination of professional, friendly, and competent at his job to boot. Andrew could handle "delicate" situations with grace, and always made me feel valued as a resident. Despite juggling many things at once, most of which I didn't know about because they were not resident issues, Andrew always had a smile and a few moments to chat. I found him to be someone who genuinely loves his job, and therefore felt it was his purview to "take good care of" those of us who were residents. He also rearranged the office so that if you came to the office door, you weren't greeted by someone's back; he arranged to have his face actually facing the office door. Previously, other people in the role would keep working with their backs to the door. I found this to be contrary to what the job is about. Apparently, Andrew agreed, because it changed, and it became a place where residents were greeted with a big smile and a hello. it didn't take him more than seeing me two times to remember my name. Clearly, that was something that mattered to him, and certainly it impressed me, because although I was living alone, many apartments had multiple residents, whether adults, or children, and everything in between. I also was fortunate to have some great neighbors, and they certainly added to feeling happy to call Brookside my home. I have now been away from Brookside for three months, and I miss it terribly. Unfortunately, I had some issues that had nothing to do with Brookside, but due to these, I had to move. Andrew was someone I could talk to about what was going on, and I have no concerns about him saying anything to anyone else. I trust Andrew. I just saw him two days ago, when a package went to my old address, so I went to pick it up. It felt great to be greeted with that smile again. Stay tuned, one never knows when things could change, and if the opportunity to live there again presented itself, I would do so without hesitation. And, thanks to vaccines for Covid, I was happy to return the smile and asked, "Can we hug now??" We did, and even though he was late leaving for the day, he spent some time helping to locate my package, and talking for a few minutes too. I have since been notified that some other packages have been sent to Concord too, so, Andrew, see you soon. Brookside Square Owners? Don't let him leave. I know my gems, and you have one. Have lived here for a year! I am so thankful my lease is up and finally be free of this hell! Everyone one of these reviews are 100% correct. Tiffany never returns phone calls or emails, the only time you can actually get in touch with her is if you wait outside the office and hope that she actually comes in. The office hours are posted but she doesn't go by them. Most of the times that I have actually seen her she is hanging out with the maintenance man in her office, which that time could be better spent fixing the endless things wrong with this building or maybe my washer and dryer that has been broken for months. There have been major issues since the day we moved in, about two months into our lease they tried to go up on our rent. We had to email back and forth until I forwarded the a copy of the original lease sent to me even then they refused to take that until I said I wanted out of the lease if they were going to change the rent mid-lease. When i mentioned I was contacting my lawyer did they finally agreed I was right. For a solid 3 months they didn't have anyone working here, we did not have maintenance nor a office manager so Nobody fixes anything, hallways smell, the place is filthy. The rent is so high for all of these headaches about 1950 a month plus utilities to never be able to reach anyone is just unacceptable. The amenities are not worth the price, gym is the size of a shoebox, all the parking gets used up by the retail spaces. If you are thinking of moving here, do yourself a favor and don't. They will tell you all the lies you want to hear and then you are stuck in a year long lease and will be ignored. read more

I have been calling this place thousands times to ask about the complex , no One never ever called me back. A weird guy answers the phone every time and says he knows nothing about the property and he knows nothing about anything. Awful read more

Luckily, I haven't dealt with the management of this way overpriced dump. As a former West Concord resident I rue the day this shit hole was built. A number of really neat businesses had to either move or go out of business for this place. The town of Concord should never have let this be built. It is totally out of character for West Concord. The previous buildings were more in keeping with the village. The rents are obscene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing this place is good for is making the owners rich. What a fucking dump! I can see other reviewers aren't so impressed either. read more

This place might be wonderful, it might be a steaming garbage heap. However I have no idea because they will not return your phone calls, web contact forms or e-mails. I am writing this review mostly so that I can annoy someone enough that they MIGHT communicate with us in some way. We have even physically shown up in person and can't find anyone, it's like they don't WANT to rent out the apartments. read more

We are very happy to renew our lease at Brookside, West Concord. Great location, amenities, and staff. Stroll to train, assigned indoor parking, great little gym, roof deck with outdoor gas grill, riverside walk and rail trail, restaurants, Deborah's Natural Gourmet, Concord Tea Cakes, Nashoba Bakery - need I say more. Surprised at these older complaining reviews - I wasn't around then, but I don't see any evidence to rely on them today. read more

Irresponsible, Poor Management and lack communication/ follow-up to problems; There are known structural problems in the building that cause noise and are unhealthy; There is smoking in the building, although it is supposed to be a non-smoking building. Management does well selling tenants the apartments without disclosing the truth. The management sells rental space to businesses as their top priority with no concern for their apartment tenants. As a result, tenants have increased noise, decreased parking, strangers showing up in a small 5 machine workout room, concerns for security and unpleasant surprises with new deals they make. This review is being posted, after many pleadings/warnings to the Management that I would be forced to do this if the TORTURE continued. I am a distraught, physically wrecked victim of Brookside Square, following 5+ months of PLEADING with the management/ownership to stop torturing this resident, who is paying $2470 a month, with the multiple, TORTUROUSLY LOUD and VIBRATING rev'ing HVAC chiller condensor motors, which are for the benefit of other residents and businesses, on the roof directly above my 1 BR unit, This space should not have been a residential unit, apparently. Brookside Square management/ownership has not offered me a different unit or any other REAL solution. They have told me that they were going to END the torture. A charade ensued. But it goes on. This TORTURE has caused me chronic sleep deprivation and destroyed every holiday, every weekend for my duration here (that is, nearly whenever I'm home), and left me a physical wreck. The vibrations from the motors are so severe, they have caused nails to come up through the floor, that have punctured my feet and my cat's. At least 4 times I have had to pound the same nails down. I have counted 13 nails coming up through the carpet. Due to nights with ZERO sleep, I have been forced to use VACATION DAYS to sleep during daytime when motors above the bedroom shut off (sometimes, but not always...but typically remain over the living and kitchen area, drilling through your brain and body). I am 61 years old and have injured my back hauling my heavy mattress and box spring around my apt, many times, trying to put it in a spot where I might get some sleep, only to have to move it again. I have worked many days having had no sleep. I have BEGGED and PLEADED with Brookside Square management in phone calls, emails, and maintenance requests. The TORTURE goes on, nearly 6 months into it. Today, Sunday, the rev'ing motors chased me out of the kitchen, out of the living area, and now they are reving over the bed. THIS IS TORTURE OF THE CRUELEST KIND, at $2470 plus utilities a month, in space that is UNLIVABLE. I told two of the owners in December that I had been forced out of my apartment at night and had to try to sleep on the floor down the hall, or in the resident's lounge. A person who works here told me that he had dealt with similar complaints from residents of at least one other unit. It is now May, and the TORTURE goes one. The rev'ing, rumbling, slamming on, slamming off, rev'ing, rumbling, vibrating, roaring, screaming (yes, all varieties, at various times) is TORTURE. This MIXED-USE ABUSE is harming residents for the benefit of businesses. It should not be legal, and likely it isn't. Again, this is only being posted, after months of pleading the Management/Ownership here FOR MY LIFE. To no avail. I am warning all renters, avoid this Mixed-Abuse nightmare. You won't know till AFTER you move in, because it gets worse at night and every weekend, and they don't show apartments on weekends. And AVOID all others of similar mixed-use design, which are not designed for even basic, decent livable conditions for residents, but for optimizing profits for owners. read more
