The Merc wouldn't be the amazing place that it is to live at without Brenda Bellavia! Mrs. Bellavia is an outstanding leasing specialist and staff member of the Merc! Whenever I have had an issue with the small things, she has acted quickly to resolve the situation. As a small example, the other day she personally delivered a package to me after it had been wrongly delivered by UPS on Saturday morning. There are honestly not enough great things to say about Brenda! One of the key reasons why I stay at the Merc is because of her personal care and consideration. Just want to summarize some things: Zero air flow inside or outside the apartments. It's like living in a tomb. Sound insulation between apartments is non-existent. The building is at the corner of Main & Moody and the lack of sound insulation includes street noise. The kitchen sink does not have a spray, just a plain old faucet. Very few apartments have closet doors. Garage is only accessible for Buildings B & C. Management is very dictatorial; the staff reflects this. The building has settled with the ensuing issues. They don't change air filters in apartment often enough. It was only changed once in the year that I was there. There is enough parking for people who have a car. Some speed bumps were removed during the garage construction in 2024. The 70 bus is right there as is Commuter Rail to NORTH Station (minimal service on weekends). Lots of restaurants around; walking distance to Hannaford. The gym is good. read more

In the first couple months of living here, I thought that I would be writing a 5-star rave review. Unfortunately, our floor has experienced 3 major water leaks in the past 6 weeks. The leasing office has done everything in their power to avoid responsibility and reimbursement for these events. In over a decade of renting apartments, I have never experienced such poor service from a landlord. There are also smaller issues that you often see in apartment buildings. The speed bumps in the parking garage are suspension-killers, the doors let a lot of sound in, and there is almost no natural airflow in the hallways and units. I can accept those issues, but water damage combined with terrible communication is where I draw the line. read more

Well this is way overdue let me start there- The Merc was my home for about 2 years, I moved back in July/August due to life changes spurring a change. While I was there though I have to give major praise to Karen. She was at the time the leasing agent who called me to tell me I was being offered an apartment. Fast forward a few months, never had any issues that were quickly resolved after moving in. The amenities before the covid madness of 2020 were great, available and they even created events for MERC residents and staff to fraternize and socialize. Whenever I did have any issue that required attention Karen was my go to (And many others upon asking around). Karen is personable, reasonable, honest and HARDWORKING. Always a welcoming smile and can do attitude without being a push over and most certainly with the posture to push back and deliver news however good or bad for the situation. Karen not only made sure residents were happy but she also made visiting the office seem like your favorite place before or after work for a quick chat just showing she cared and was available. I've dealt with some of the other staff in the office as well but they've had some turnover there, no one as long as Karen remains. Frankly if she was managing I'd probably feel slightly different about things and this would have been a 5 Star review. There were some changes during Covid that were out of her control and the management team didn't do the best job of communicating them effectively. Not being great with explaining or empathizing with residents was one of the reasons I decided to leave the Merc, a factor not the catalyst. As I said before they've had a decent amount of turnover at The Merc and that has somewhat contributed to the lack of community feeling overtime. As I was leaving the Merc I wasn't the only one and it was sad to see such change. Maybe the ownership and corporate need to put someone with Resident first energy and ideals in the managers position, that way they can stop the bleeding and continue to provide a great community atmosphere. The Merc is a residence, however it's focus should be on hospitality and providing residences with someone who can communicate in a timely, effective, and empathetic manner. The Merc is modern, but very inconvenient to live at. There is no guest parking and they only built enough underground spots to provide 1 spot per unit regardless of the number of bedrooms. Sometimes they'll offer additional spots at $200 - $300 additional per month. They will blame "Boston Pricing", but this is not Boston. Most of the local "luxury apartments in the area provide free onsite/uncovered parking for all resident vehicles and guests. Be prepared to have constant fear of being towed at $175/tow when parked on the surface lot even during appropriate times. The place allows most dogs, but besides having a dog wash room it's not super dog friendly. There's virtually no grass for them to walk on and there not allowed really anywhere besides inside apartment units. The amenities besides the gym close super early and the security guard will kick you out of the amenity areas past 10pm. The grills are constantly broken and take forever to fix. This place has potential to improve, but the contracts with the "commercial tenants" ensure they get preferential treatment towards parking. Compared to other similar places, the Merc isn't a very good place to meet neighbors. Nobody really hangs out in any of the common areas. In regards to the inside of the apartments they're decent, but not great. There's nicer places for similar money. The floor plan in most units isn't ideal, as there is no real separation between the living rooms and kitchens. The appliances are decent and hardwood floor in the kitchen are decent but not top notch. The bedroom closests don't have door which can be a little annoying if you have pets or guests over. The apartments run extremely hot 365 days a year, so you'll likely need to run the A/C year round. Apartments in all buildings will maintain 75+ degrees with the heat off. The rooms also heat unevenly, so some rooms will be much hotter than others. The best and only reason to live and the Merc is if you want to live right on Moody Street. read more

It's sad to write this review because I was excited to be in a brand new beautiful building. The noise situation is so bad, and that's what makes this review a 1 star. You'd think for the money you pay to live at the Merc, that the quality of apartments would match. Unfortunately that's not the case, as much as management likes to tell you it is. They say the Merc was built with the most expensive and strong materials. So why does the light on my kitchen ceiling shake and vibrate every time my upstairs neighbor walks? My downstairs neighbor once confronted me because she could hear me walking. I was barefoot, keep in mind. The sounds I hear above me sound like bowling balls being dropped on the ground, and it shakes and vibrates throughout the whole apartment. I've been woken up in the middle of the night because I can hear every move they make from upstairs. This is not the fault of the residents. It's very clear the floors and ceilings are cheap. I literally jump from my seat when I hear the noises sometimes - that's how much of a disturbance it is. At night, it sounds like someone is actually in my kitchen stomping around. I've confronted management about this several times. They say they'll look into possibly putting things into the floors to actually keep out sound, but nothing ever happened. It's pretty outrageous to have residents pay so much and for us to deal with such an issue. I have never felt truly comfortable or at home because of it. Side note - I moved in in January 2017. They told me that by April, there's going to be tons of retail stores in the complex. We have 2 banks - that's it. Everything has just been very misleading. read more

I moved to The Merc in Waltham just over a year ago. The office staff has always been very patient and very helpful. Maintenance has been immediate and knowledgeable about any issue. I did have one on-going noise problem with a neighbor, but having Brenda and Jeffrey totally on my side was really helpful and comforting. It is also great having the office staff there everyday. Unfortunately 1/2 star reviews aren't possible! Beautiful apartments with updated and modern furnishings in a great location with a tremendous leasing staff, maintenance staff, and management but the pleasantries stop there. The complex is stuffed with section 8 housing as it is required by the state that all new construction allot units for the "less fortunate." They gave those units away first and are now trying to find paying tenants like myself. I have had the pleasure of stepping over a heroine addict laying in the hallway floor one early morning as well as the opportunity to add three additional personal locks to the inside of my door for peace of mind. Parking is overpriced and not very convenient unless you are in the one building that has the garage underneath it. Otherwise, you have to walk around the construction areas to get to the other buildings. Street parking is time limited and scarce. All the extra open aired spots between buildings are "reserved for Merc Retail customers".... Let's see.... There are two banks and.... oh! Nothing else! Glad we are saving those spots for the non utilized retail space that they tell you is in the process of being filled by bars, restaurants, and grocery shops yet remain empty still! Now on to the noise factor..... Super loud! I take that back..... It's Spinal tap "This one goes to 11!" loud! In all directions. Above, below, outside. You can hear every footstep made by your neighbors around you and above you. The street traffic off of Main Street is horrendous. You can lay in bed and count the lawn care trucks drive down the road early in the morning as they hit every manhole cover, gas line cover, and pothole allowing their trailers full of equipment to rattle to the point that you are fearful they may have actually lost what they were pulling behind them! In a vacuum, it could possibly be a 2 star review however we don't live in vacuums and Northland Properties skimped out on spending money to better dampen the sound so they could start bring in tenants quicker and sooner which means more government income and faster rent checks for them. Be cautious when choosing the Merc @ moody and Main!!! You have been warned!!! The staff are some of the best and friendliest people you will ever meet but once the keys get turned over, the unavoidable problems and costs to remedy the problems remain all yours to enjoy! You will see more moving out trucks on this property than you will moving in trucks! Your money is better spent at Cronings Landing or on private rental properties as the value ends with a roof over your head, which by the way may possibly include noisy neighbors, at the Merc. read more

So far so great! The staff is accessible, kind and responsive. Its a huge development with over 200 units and we expected some noise but so far we hear nothing. The area is a urban/high foot and car traffic so expect the typical city noise like early morning trash removal. The units on the interior are less exposed to street level noise. I think the area is safe, but again I'm used to city living. Living in the main building is ideal because of the access to mailroom and parking exit. Parking is free for now but I expect that to change as the building reaches capacity. The apartment details are beautiful, we have a lot of windows and light. The one thing I would change is the grade of the carpet. It's beautiful subtle pattern but a bit more industrial than we would like our baby to play on. We are considering covering our child's room with an area carpet. The other thing to note some of the units have a carpeted living area which isn't ideal for young children or dining tables. read more

This is a new development and they have incorporated the Citizens bank and a few pending retail locations to be leased out. The retail location in front of the complex has little to no parking. If they plan on adding more, it should be sufficient. Main Street is not my favorite place to try and park. Over all this building looks amazing and will be another over priced complex to buy or rent from. Right on the train commuter line. Ideal if you don't have a car. Walk to buses. Looks like they will have covered parking as well. Coming from someone that sold a condo to get away from Moody Street in Waltham, lets hope the windows are sound proof. If the train and sirens will not be enough noise, the drunks walking to the taxi-stand after 2am will be. read more

Downgrading to 1-star. Reasons are the following: 1. Their response to my review is repetitive and fake as called out by other reviewers. I emailed the property manager with questions before posting my original review. He did not answer all my concerns and those that were answered are not satisfying. Then he simply stopped responding. That email thread is what they should be responding to if they truly mean to resolve a resident issues - hopefully with the same level of courteousness in the response here 2. I contacted the Northland's customer service email. But heard no response for three days. Obviously this company is not there to server their customers. I would suggest avoiding their properties. I lived the in Longview Place Apartments in the same area for 3 years and had no such issues. They offer better sound proof, management team that are there to help, an no ripoff charges on move-out. Original review: The Merc was good for the first year lived there. Besides the fact that noise isolation isn't great (understandable since the building is old). Then new management came in and it started to feel like living in a dorm - very frequent communications regarding community living rules and regulations. Issues like maintenance requests on certain items make you feel that the convenience of residents is not prioritized. They also hit you with surprise charges on items upon moving out. Specifically, charged me for countertop replacement which is only showing normal wear for two years of usage. I called surprise because it was not listed on items that would be charged on the move-out checklist they provided. Communication with the community manager is ineffective. This never happened with other high-end communities I lived in. New and current residents be aware. Extra star for Karen in the management team for always putting residents' priorities first. Having someone like her on the team was partly why I signed the initial lease and renewed after the first year. The current team is just a big step down from when she was there. read more

Great apartment, facilities, and an awesome maintenance team. I personally have lived here since February of 2017. However, there is a complete lack of signage in the open parking lots and lots of confusion regarding guest parking. The last email that was sent out about guest parking guidelines was September 4th, 2018 so some of my friends who are new residents who moved in after September 4th have no idea what the guest parking guidelines are in this property. The Merc Management has to protect its residents against filthy tow trucks that can damage your luxury cars while towing it to a junk yard. There is a huge parking lot which the Merc Management claims that is part of the city of waltham which has gone to complete waste in the evening and a money making pit for tow truck drivers who don't have much of a life causing extreme distress for my guests and new residents who do not know the proper guidelines of guest parking. The management seems very lackadaisical on this topic and they to make a greater effort to get more guest parking for Waltham's most expensive and prestigious property. The other disaster is the new Luxer one package program for residents. You are in the hands of delivery drivers who are not familiar with this very new system and if your package is not entered correctly in the system, it is a very high chance you lose your package or experience significant delays in locating your package. Northland LLC should completely scrap this system and hire additional staff to manage our packages that was like how the old system worked. read more

I live in NC and need to get up to the Boston area frequently to see friends and family. I usually stay with my sister in Cambridge but she recently moved to The MERC, so this was my first time there. I was super impressed. The whole campus is clean and well maintained, the few staff I met were very friendly and always greeted me or held the door. Parking was easy, it's a nicely kept and secure garage. In fact the whole place feels very secure. My favorite, though, is Brothers - the grocery store right there at The MERC. It's amazing! They have everything I'd need, and the deli, the bakery look outstanding. My sister raved about the place. I picked up a few items for my week long visit and everything was fresh and healthy. We had dinner at Gustazo, right across the street in downtown Waltham, on Moody St -- everything you could need is on Moody St, the same block as The MERC. Anyway, Gustazo was insanely good. I was blown away. I honestly had one of the best dinners I've had in a long while. I had to get to various places in Boston, around north and south of Boston and I a quick 5-10 min drive from 128 (and to 93) and the Pike, which was super convenient for my business that week. Anyway, I highly recommend The MERC and if I needed to move back up there, The MERC would be the first place I'd consider -- whether my sister liked it or not. read more

I loved the apartment complex at first sight on my apartment finding tour.- its location, new buildings and amenities and office staff, everything was perfect. Other apartments I explored in the area never came any close to this place! Amazing apartments, best leasing team ever. I just love living at the merc!! The apartments are very spacious, great layout and I love the wooden floors. All the appliances are energy efficient. Bathrooms are also great, with the option to have a shower instead of a tub. The building is very safe and it's just great walking into a brand new building every time! The leasing team made it very easy to move to the Merc, toured us every detail of the apartment and continue to be helpful whenever we need them. Had to call maintenance for a circuit breaker once at 11 pm and they were there in minutes! My experience with the MERC has been incredible so far. I moved into a 2-bedroom apartment several weeks ago and the entire process has been very smooth. Khang helped me to find the perfect apartment that met my needs. He was always available, super friendly, informative, and accommodating. We were doing the apartment search remotely, so I was worried about not seeing everything in person before leasing, but Khang gave us incredible virtual tours and made sure we had all the information we needed to make a confident decision. The apartment is quiet and we never hear any noise from people around us or from Charles Street, which is what our apartment looks over. The amenities in the complex are wonderful, especially the gym and on-site grocery store. Putting in work orders is also incredibly easy and quick to be resolved. We had a slight problem with one of the stovetops, but the issue was resolved within a day. So far, I wouldn't change anything about my experience so far and couldn't be more satisfied! read more

Looks can be deceiving. At first glance, looks like a nice new building in a great location. A week or two with your new neighbors, you will think you are living in a homeless shelter. Could do a lot better at these prices. Units do seem to give good energy efficiency, but I'll take my chances with a higher electric bill to avoid the tenancy here. read more

This place gives me PTSD. It is a horrible location for a "luxury" apartment. Very noisy at all times of the day and the walls are not even remotely sound proof. You bet at 2 am every single night you'll hear the drunken homeless people on the street yelling. Most importantly, the rent is way too high for a place that is so poorly managed and designed. The parking lot does not even connect to the apartment buildings, which is not ideal for carrying stuff to and from your car. Also, Waltham is not a safe area and walking from your car late at night to your apartment is dangerous and potentially life threatening. I have lived in various apartment complexes and the management team here is very amateur. If you're not above the age 30, they don't respect you. They are very discriminatory against younger people. The property manager is a witch and unfortunately lives in the building too. (Beware) My first week moving in, I was called about 15 times a day by the property manager complaining about my dog and just being rude in general. Note: the Merc allows dogs but is in NO way dog friendly. I was one of the first tenants to move in on the floor I lived on. However, the property manager would walk by my door everyday (and the doors are not sound proof so you can hear every little sound), which provoked my dog to bark. She then harassingly called me throughout the day while I was at work telling me she was standing outside my door and listening to my dog bark (creepy, right?) The worst part is that she also went on to lie about how several tenants have complained about my dog, although my floor was 90% vacant and I even asked my next door neighbor and he said he didn't even know I had a dog and didn't complain. I've never met a more unprofessional management and I have lived at many apartment complexes. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you plan on moving here. read more
