Narrow restaurant with multiple narrow levels. Apparently they specialize in steaks, but I came here for the Sunday Roast. Was not disappointed by the level of craftsmanship. Sunday Roast: High quality roast, you can definitely tell this is from a steakhouse. The veggies tasted more delicate and meticulously flavored, than if some pub was putting this together. Though I didn't notice any of the pancetta that the menu said would be in the cabbage. The gravy tasted wine based and was great with the mashed potatoes. Nice fluffy Yorkshire pudding. We weren't sure what to expect when we walked in but were immediately put at ease. The staff was attentive and easy going. We ordered an Old Fashion and a glass of Prosecco. Then the Oysters, which were superb. A little sweet and salty and very fresh. The we ordered the Cote de Boeuf (Medium Rare of course) to share with the Wild Garlic Butter, Bernaise sauces and the Gruyère Black Truffle Mac & Cheese and Chargrilled Broccoli. This meal was perfection...every bite was delicious and unique, yet paired perfectly with each other. We ordered a bottle of the house red, which complemented the meal exactly. Our first meal in Ireland and it was so good. Sunday's are for roast! Brookwood serves their special roasts on Sundays. We tried the "All In" roast for 2. Which consists of organic Irish chicken, rib of beef, belly of pork, mash, gravy, cabbage, carrots and Yorkshire pudding. My favorite starter was the seared scallops. Stopped in here for a Friday night dinner. I was hungry. Did not have a reservation but was seated by the window right away. Decor of this place was fantastic. My seat had a great view of Baggot street and was great for people watching on this rainy night. On to the food. Side of creamy mashed potatoes and an 8 oz strip steak cooked medium. Both were excellent. Peppercorn sauce on the side was not needed for the meat but went well with the spuds. Also had tortellini pasta with butternut squash purée also very good. I went here for lunch on a work do so the drinks were flowing. I had a red wine which was really easy to drink. The boys were ordering beers with 9% alcohol! And I tasted the cucumber cocktail which was really good. Had a nice kick to it. I had an unusual salad with feta cheese and chickpeas to start. It was a great choice. Really big portion so when my big rib eye steak, greens and paprika fries arrived I was already sort of full. A couple of people ordered the 28oz porterhouse steak as a challenge. They needed a lie down after! My steak and sides I could not fault. Staff were very attentive. Topping up drinks all the time and checking if we were ok. With exceptional service and some outstanding food, this was the best meal I had in Ireland. Not knowing what was in store for us, we stumbled into Brookwood with some late evening munchies. The restaurant was about to close, but host saw our hungry faces and let us stay for dinner. The restaurant closed and we were left as the only diners. Service was extremely gracious throughout and were even offered some complimentary mussels in a cream and chorizo broth. The broth was so delicious that we had to order some bread to soak it up. While some items seemed pricey, portions were very generous. We came in for a quick bite and left completely stuffed (in part because of the extra mussels). The black sole with clams, potatoes, and bacon was a very large and satisfying dish. I would even recommend sharing it. We also got some raw oysters, which were a bit gritty and just Ok. There was one dish though that really blew me away. The home-smoked salmon with miso creme fraiche and pickled watermelon radish. Simple, yet elegant, different, and luxurious. The salmon was packed with flavor to the point were we had to keep vocalizing how good it was. The other elements of the dish were also really good and when eaten together it became a wow-factor bite. The best dish I ate in Ireland and the best smoked salmon I have ever had. A band should always play like they are playing to a full stadium and Brookwood rocked the house. read more

Went to Brookwood yesterday for my boyfriend's birthday, had seen the Sunday roast mentioned in a Buzzfeed article on the most delicious dishes in Dublin and having checked out the website, really loved the look of the place- all 1940's speakeasy - and thought it'd be a nice alternative to the typical Sunday brunch. Having booked the restaurant, I then came across a voucher for a half roast for two people with 2 cocktails on the Taste.ie, having been stung before by using vouchers with some restaurants treating you like a second-class citizen when using them, I was a little wary of purchasing one for this, seeing as it was a special occasion. However, the staff at Brookwood honestly couldn't have been more accommodating and the service was really outstanding, my fears really were put to rest from the moment we arrived, they honestly could not have looked after us any better. As a party of five and having two vouchers which entitled us to four cocktails, they even threw in an extra drink for free, which we were not expecting at all but very happily accepted! The food was on par with the service, the roast for four people was an epic affair - big juicy slices of medium rare beef that melted in the mouth served with big, airy Yorkshire puds, creamy mash (we suspected equal ratios of butter to potato haha), beautiful roast veg and potatoes, gravy and a horseradish sauce so good that I am now a convert, not being at all keen on it in the past. Seeing as some of our party had been on the sauce the night before and we were all pretty schtarved we included some sides to the feast (pretty unnecessary really but the hangover had to be fed!!). The onion rings, parmesan chips and creamed spinach were all outstanding. If I had one quibble and it honestly would be tiny, it would be that the side dishes with the roast and the extras we ordered could have been a little hotter for my taste - but that really is me nit-picking!! I really enjoyed the fact that the food was served up to be dished out communally, it's a nice touch and makes the experience a little more fun. Along with the excellent food and service, the décor and vibe of the place is really cool too, from the heavy ornate water glasses that looked straight out of Mad Men (surely the glasses of Mr. Draper et al. would have held a little whiskey along with the water though haha) to the chilled tunes and great cocktail bar. I don't always give 5 stars, but by god this restaurant earned every one. My husband and I came in here after a day of shopping around town. We totally meant to arrive in time for lunch, but (yeah for me, not for him), we spent too much time shopping and didn't arrive until around 5:15pm or so on a Saturday. Of course, because it was so early, we were the only people in the restaurant. We were told we could sit at the table till 7pm, because the table was reserved at that time. However, they informed us that when 7pm came if we were not done, they would be happy to move us to the bar at the window. We though, sure, sounds great! We started off with the pork belly and the steak and blue cheese salad as our appetizers. The salad was fantastic; the perfect balance between sweet and savoury. Also, the salad was significantly larger than I was expecting it to be. The pork belly was also very good, and was served with a honey mustard type of sauce. The pork belly was a bit smaller than I was expecting it to be, but still very good. For our dinner, we decided to split the porterhouse steak with a side of garlic mash and truffle mac and cheese. We ordered our steak rare, and it was brought out, sliced, on a hot cast iron skillet. We had to hurry and get our pieces off the plate to prevent them from cooking the steak more. The presentation was neat with the skillet, but I would have honestly preferred it had been plated differently for that very reason. The garlic mash was good, not too much garlic, and the potatoes were nice and creamy. The mac and cheese was also very good. There was just a hint of truffle, it wasn't particularly strong. So if you're nervous about the truffle, no need to worry! I was so full eating all this food, I couldn't even finish it all, but my husband was happy to take over and help! We didn't have room for dessert, but instead got drinks. I opted for the drink that comes with the yelp check in offer (unfortunately I've forgotten the name of the drink). But it was really nice and refreshing. I could see myself ordering this on a hot summer's day (the one time a year that happens in Ireland). I can't wait to come back to this place, it'd be great for a date night or a treat yourself dinner. They also do a sunday roast which I really want to come back and check out. read more

What a great steakhouse! I hadn't heard about Brookwood before and when a friend suggested we go there for a dinner on Friday night I didn't know what to expect. Well now I have a new favorite Steak joint in Dublin. This place is awesome. The staff are extremely welcoming and courteous and the atmosphere is very comfortable. The decor is pretty cool and make you feel more comfortable than out of place like a lot upper end steak places can do. We ordered starters and mains to split. The stuffed potato was great and felt like a meal in itself. For mains we got a rib eye steak that we split along with Spinach. My steak was really good but I tasted my friends Fillet Mignon which I would say was one of the best cuts of meat i'ver ever had. There was also a Yelp check in offer for a cocktail. After a pretty intensive job interview my partner decided I needed something amazing to eat - enter Brookwood... There was a special listed on the chalkboard steadied upon the pavement which read that there was a special of some kind of Pork Sandwich. When we got inside the chef said that this was actually Beef. Beef is good. Beef is better than Pork...by a longshot. So we ordered two amazing open faced sandwiches, a basket of chips and a pea soup which was greener than your neighbours face if you told em you won the lottery. Disguised respecfully into the mix were 2 glasses of mind altering Malbec. After just a few sips all of the stresses of being the perfect candidate simply floated away. What did linger though waa the taste. The sandwich was delicious, in fairness though it would want to be. It was above average in price but above average in quality. it is imperative that there is a correlation between these two factors at all times when judging a meal. Its pretty nice here to be honest. Id imagine that the dinner menu is to die for. There is a lot of love and care injected into the food prep here. So if you fancy pushing the boat out a little for your lunch give Brookwood a whirl whether you're a boy or a girl. read more

The most incredible meal I have had in England, Wales, or Ireland. If you are in Dublin, get a reservation here. If you are two counties over, take the train and eat here. This place does impeccable food, from first bite to last. We ordered the tartare- it was melt-worthy with lovely bites of pickled radish. The lobster tortellini? Danny, breaking down those thirty lobsters was worth every luscious bite. I will dream of these for days to come. And then the Chateaubriand and lobster showed up. The crust on the meat was perfectly seasoned and the beef itself was so tender. The fresh Donegal lobster with coral butter was served out of the shell- sweet and soft. The greens were crispy, the wine list is perfectly paired with their offerings, and Jacob is the perfect host. I will be back EVERY time I am in Ireland. read more

Super tasty We had a delicious dinner in Brookwood on Wednesday night. It's fairly new but good service and excellent food to start we had the chicken liver parfait and some oysters, both were excellent. However the oysters were Pacific, not Natives, but still very tasty. For mains we had the fish and chips which was very fresh, lovely crisp batter, not at all greasy and very well made tartare sauce. In an area that is littered with restaurants and bars it can be slightly overwhelming trying to choose somewhere decent. This is most true somewhere like Baggot St. A treasure trove of eateries. Buried amidst this is this lovely spot. As soon as you walk in, you will be impressed. Lovely atmosphere and great service. I was here with friends for the Sunday roast. It was absolutely perfect. I had an entire full day of being in Dublin to myself (with beautiful weather to match, so it was obviously divine intervention) so I decided to go rogue solo and do everything off the bat, purely Caroline style. After an awesome day of traipsing around the Guinness storehouse solo (and maybe falling in love with my Guinness expert in the process) I sauntered in here for a celebratory last night in the city dinner. I just simply looked up the best steakhouse in town, hailed a cab while very pleasantly tipsy, and made it to my reservation just a wee bit late but they forgave me. I was given the choice of a beautiful solo bar seating in front of the window (which I took) or seating upstairs, which he was kind enough to show me both. My server was so sweet. And so adorable. Thank you for being such a gentleman throughout the entire dinner, even with the awkward moment at the end (which was still endearing in itself). He recommended me the bearnais sauce to go with my filet mignon, which I tried for the very first time, and am proud to say I'm a convert. Add some of the best creamy mash and spinach with bits of chorizo to go with it. And the wine! They brought me my glass of pinot noir with a "my lady" at the end. Swoon. As for the steak? I'm a native New Yorker, where we are pretty serious about our beef. But this was by far, one of the best I've ever had. Top three. And of course, the pear and apple crumble with honeycomb ice cream for dessert. I was on cloud nine. Came here for lunch at 12pm on a weekday (no reservation needed, lots of empty seats) and ordered the steak sandwich - it's an open faced sandwich with mushrooms, garlic butter, steak, and topped with two onion rings. We also order chips with our sandwiches - yum. I love my chips crunchy on the outside, and these were cooked perfectly to a crisp. The food was delicious, seasoned well, and pretty much perfect. Our total came out to ~15 Euro each - very reasonable. It did take a while for our order to come out, but the quality of our meal made up for that. The area downstairs is quiet and seems very nice. We sat upstairs where it was extremely loud. The service was awful. Our server could barely hear us, she clearly had not been doing rid long, and there was a language barrier that caused some issues when ordering. The kitchen area is very small, so large groups don't work. We waited for over an hour for our main courses and then we had issues. Some of the steaks were way over cooked, all of the sides except for the chips were cold. The sauces came ten minutes after the plates were dropped off. It was just not great. The steak knives were a poor choice, it was a battle to cut a decent steak. The chef came to the table and made excuses for the over cooked steaks. The wine selection was good, provided they had it in stock. We selected three wines that they didn't have enough bottles in stock to give us two bottles. Our fourth choice, they had, but it was a cheep win made with way to much sugar. Won't be going back. read more

This place is a disaster! I was served up one of the best steaks I've ever had but that's the only positive. We were sat down and left without any staff approaching us for 30mins. Couldn't even order a drink because the host was too busy chatting to someone, he was a joke. Eventually when we managed to nab a waiter we got a bit of service. As I said steak was great but then they had the cheek of serving up a stale shop bought desert, bloody disgrace with the price they are charging! I have been to Brookwood on three occasions and this is by far my favorite restaurant in Dublin.....and I have been to many wonderful restaurants in the country. My boyfriend is from England and he said he has never tasted beef this delicious! He had a "steak off" with a Dublin-based friend of ours who is a cardiac surgeon. They each ordered and ate a 32 oz Rib-Eye (that is 64 oz of wicklow beef!) and both declared they could eat another! 32 oz each! We were given a fabulous private room for our party of 8 and we enjoyed our evening from start to finish! We will be there again next week! read more

On our trip to Ireland we chose Brookwood to have Sunday roast and boy were we pleased! The whole experience was just delightful from the moment we stepped in the door. We were seated upstairs in a nice quiet corner and almost felt like we were being treated to a private dinner. The interior was very warm and classy and the servers were dressed sharply and very kind. The roast, mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables and Yorkshire puddings came presented so beautifully and warm. Everything was cooked just how I like it and id even go so far to say it may have been better than what mum makes. Even though we were full at the end we needed to have a slice of banoffee pie at the end as it's something we always have to make at home in Canada. If we come to Dublin we will be back! read more

My girlfriend and I came here on one of the Irish times rewarding times voucher, €79 for three courses and bottle of wine which in itself is a great deal, provided the food and wine is good anyway. Well were weren't disappointed! The place feels like a prohibition era style American cocktail bar with a buzzing ambience with friendly staff and comfortable seating. We got a really nice bottle of Italian red, a little more on the €30 we had in the voucher but well worth. We only decided on this one after being given the option to try a couple which is a nice touch. Now for the food, I got crab and egg pot and Edel went for the house salad, both very tasty but the crab was excellent! Rib eye and prawns followed for us both and I don't say this lightly but the rib eye was the best steak I have had in Dublin...seriously! I ate all the fat which melted like butter in my mouth, unbelievable!!! We researched the best Sunday lunch in Dublin and Brookwood was on the list. We reserved a table and went along with very high hopes. The staff were so friendly and charming they took our coats and chatted to us while they sat us upstairs at our table. The decor was lovely very interesting Art Deco. We ordered the French onion soup for starters which was lovely and they were accommodating to my coeliac disease. The drinks were great and lovely glasses. The Sunday roast was underwhelming. Mash potato, carrots, cabbage and meat with gravy. The carrots were no longer crunchy, the vegetables had no seasoning or herbs to bring out different flavours. I hadn't heard of Brookwood before but some friends invited us to join them for Sunday lunch and sent us on a voucher from taste.ie for 2 cocktails and roast for 2 for 30 quid...roast was fab as were the cocktails (although I did spot that my friend's martini was served in a milk bottle on ice so requested for mine to come just in the martini glass #wewantplates!). Some of our party weren't on the voucher and all loved their food too. We had some starters and mains which were all great as well. We fell into the trap of their gorgeous half price cocktails (Sundays only) and ended up being there for ages. The staff couldn't have been nicer and even gave us some bits and bobs on the house which was a lovely touch, especially as it was so cheap anyway with the vouchers and the half price cocktails. We went to Brookwood yesterday night for dinner with 2 friends. The area downstairs where we were sitting is lovely, class & comfy. We had 4 cocktails to start with and then 2 porthouse steaks incredible yummie: the meat was melting in the mouth! It was probably the best steak me and my boyfriend had in Dublin. Delicious. I have been here a number of time and I have to say I love it. The food is great and it never seems to disappoint. The interior is beautifully decorated and they recently finished of the outside of the building which looks awesome. My favourite starters are the mushrooms on toast, grilled marrow and the pate in a jar. For mains you can't go wrong with one of their steaks. The burger is great also.
