So *this* is what proper fish n chips is supposed to taste like. I've never been the biggest fan of the dish, disappointed numerous times, but this is a rare instance that the internet overlords of 'must visit' places is actually correct. I tried to do a walk-in when they opened, but they were already booked for the afternoon. Luckily, the nice young lady offered an evening reservation, which I took. It ended up being quite relaxed and not crowded at about 17:00, so I was happy I took this option. The haddock was about as perfect as I imagine fish n chips should be. The chips were quite good as well. And the tartare sauce is like opium. Had to get an extra heap of the stuff (it costs quite a bit extra). Friendly staff, and not a cheap outing. But well well worth it over the trash that is Leo Burdock.
"Kennan" (not sure of the spelling as I did not ask. Sorry if it's wrong.) he went over and above, explaining the menu and walking me through each and every item including the wine list! Make sure you make a reservation as this is an extremely small restaurant with only 16 barstools! We walked in on a Thursday afternoon while the kitchen is closed - bar was open between 2:00PM and 4:30PM and got a reservation for THE 2 of US - 4:30 that day! (We were told we would have the seats for an hour. Just as we were leaving, we met people who were only in town for the day and were unfortunate as they did not have nor could they make a reservation.) Hubby had the scallops which is a small portion of five in a very good sauce along with an order of chips. I chose the fish chips, allowing Keenan to advise me on which of the types of fish- he recommended the Plaice (I do not care for a fishy tasting fish.) and he was spot on! Keenan told me this is a rare fish and when actual fisherman are in town and see it on the menu, they don't pass it up and he was exactly correct!! SO YUMMY & A Huge portion!!! Like HUGE-enough so that my hubby ate my other half, and we really didn't need the extra portion of chips that he had ordered as there were plenty that came with my fish & chips order. THEY DO OFFER TAKEOUT!! We sat alongside a couple from Poland and she chatted quite a bit about their Bakery and Keenan was very kind to listen to their story as he was ours! Keenan helped me choose a very nice bottle of Reisling (Whittmann 100 Hugel Teisling Troken 2023) which my hubby also enjoyed as he's not a wine drinker. (no beer taps and didn't see any beer offerings but I could've missed it.) At the end of the meal, Keenan offered us a complimentary spicy "GORRAT?" which was YUMMO!! The food at the Fish Shop was as amazing as was the service !! THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS I HAVE EVER HAD!!! Tab on as JUST SHY OF 89euro. 105E with tip!!and worth it all!! DO NOT MISS THIS ONE IF YOU ARE IN DUBLIN!!
Make reservations if at all possible- there are only 16 bar stool type seats in the restaurant. Friendly service and the food was outstanding. Calamari 5/5 Hake (recommended)fish and chips5/5 huge portion Raw oysters 5/5 Remember to order your own main dish- it's a small establishments so you will be charged if you share. Amazing friendliness and recommendations on things to do.
If you are walking there you are in the right spot...you may walk by it at first but trust me. You have to make a reservation because there are only about 15 spots and the lovely hostess/waitress turned away about 50 guests just while we were sitting there. That being said....it was truly the cutest and best fish and chip place in Dublin! We started with the olives and the croquettes. I had the Plaice fish and chips while others had the Haddock. I like a sweeter fish. They also have an impressive wine list- yahoo! We felt so special that we knew to go here!
Best fish and chips in Dublin! They also have gluten free fish and chips!! My wife is gluten free so this may be the only time she can get incredible fish and chips so it's a must stop for anyone gluten free. They give you basically a full fish so you will be stuffed. A reservation is a must with limited seating. The place is very clean, except the bathroom was tiny and could've been cleaner. However I would hold off on getting fish and chips until you get here because this definitely has the best.
10/10 best fish and chips I have ever had in my whole life. Make sure to get a reservation since it's a smaller place and seating is limited. We got lucky and they were able to squeeze us in for the bar. The service the quick and the food was amazing. Reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. Coming from Seattle, I love seafood and have been disappointed multiple times when ordering fish and chips at home. Had both the hake and haddock to compare and they were both perfectly cooked and the batter was light and crispy. The chips were like McDonalds fries in the best way possible, a crisp outside and a light potato inside. But the tartare sauce was AMAZING. Herby and light. This was the first fish and chip place we went to on our vacation and as we traveled throughout (cork/dingle/galway)- I will say this place has me on a chokehold!
This was my best dining decision during my trip to Dublin. The space was quaint so while my solo Monday 2 pm reservation was relatively empty, I imagine for other times and days, doing it in advance is a boon. The people there were so sweet and were a great help in making me determine what I should eat. I had a glass of bubbly, dressed crab on toast, Beer Battered Haddock and chips and langoustines (they have a sample menu on the site so other than fish & chips there might be some starters available like the langoustines). Those fish and chips were fresh, warm and flaky and so good. I even liked the tartar sauce and I typically don't. The dressed crab was flavorful and full of crab meat. I got the langoustines since the person next to me on the counter had them. It was succulent and they do provide a tool to help get the meat out. Underrated is the decor especially when the natural light hits it. Plus they have a takeaway menu so if I lived there, I would have gotten the fish and chips to go. If I come back, I would make a return trip there

Fish and chips was one of my top meals that I wanted to try while visiting Dublin in May and boy did we find the best spot with Fish Shop. While the size of the restaurant is on the smaller side, the quality of the menu and the food is on point. My cousin and I sat at the counter, each ordering a different fish for our fish and chips (me the Hake and my cousin the Haddock) which we both paired with a glass of rose. We weren't able to finish all of our chips but the ate every bit of our fish which was so fresh, flakey, and lightly breaded - it was exactly what I was looking for. The waitress was super friendly and helpful with fish recommendations as well. I will definitely come back here on my next visit to Dublin.
I'm not a big fan of fish and chips, but this was definitely the best I've ever had. It was a lot lighter than my previous fish and chips experiences. That said, I actually loved the starters even more. The cockles, mussels and crab toast were divine. My only complaint is that the space isn't great - uncomfortable chairs, no hooks for your bag, and a small coat rack that was full when I came in. I ended up wearing my coat and purse for all of dinner. Not the end of the world but small things like purse hooks at the bar and offering to hang your coat in the back would be awesome!
Hands down the best fish and chips I have ever had. More importantly, my meal opened a new world of house made tartar sauce I never thought possible. I won't tell you what the ingredients list includes because you should try it first yourself but it will blow your mind. That's right. Tartar sauce has the ability to BLOW YOUR MIND. The smoked almonds are delightful and the 0% alc pale ale was a lovely companion to the F&C. My plate had a healthy portion of both fish and chips and I even left some chips behind but one person in my group took to soaking her chips in the amazing malt vinegar provided. I had to go double duty, first splashing chips and fish with vinegar AND then going in hard on the tartar. Why leave chips behind? I ran out of tartar sauce! Finishing up with the lemon posset which I also HIGHLY recommend but don't ignore the sticky toffee pudding. Our group got both desserts and shared which worked out well. Make sure to call ahead for a reservation but needless to say I'll be contacting the FS team as soon as I book my return flight to Dublin read more
Worth the two year wait! ... Let me explain. I was in Dublin two years ago, absolutely siked that there was a posh little chipper spot that could do gluten-free fish & chips. I made a reservation & arrived perfectly on time, just to find out ... I made the reservation for the wrong day. Fish Shop was fully booked out (& it's a small place!) so they could not accommodate me. I had to leave. I actually cried outside on the street. Gluten-free fish & chips is a big deal to me! So in 2026, I made a reservation for myself FAR in advance & made absolute certain that it was the CORRECT day. I did hold my breath just a little bit when I arrived, but I was good to go. The shop is tight - not a lot of room to move around. Unfortunately I was seated right by the door, so every time someone came in or out, I was blasted by cold air. I forgive. I ordered a skin contact Austrian wine & haddock fish & chips (gluten free, of course) & it all came out in a reasonable time. Everything was just spectacular. The fish was crispy, flaky, & perfectly done. The fries were thick & the malt vinegar was strong. The wine was weird & a perfect pairing. I really wish this spot wasn't across the ocean from me. I'll certainly be back every time I'm in the city. read more

Reservations are definitely a must because of how small the shop is. The staff is very nice and it's next to the tracks. The fried haddock was very tasty but the best dish was the grilled plaice. It was tastier than cod and very fresh. The oysters were also delicious and went down smoothly. Their wine menu was really impressive but mocktails would've been nice. read more

Exceptional fish and chip! Came out of Guinness Storehouse and needed a quick snack before Jameson distillery and this did the trick. Lightly breaded, not greasy. The tartar sauce was one of the best. read more

Fish and chips that can hold its weight! We split one order for two people and were decently full. Fresh fish, great batter, a bit out of the way but more than worth it. Don't forget to order the sauce, it's 2 euro extra but necessary for the meal!! read more

Wow. What a unique experience. From sitting in a 16-seat shop to watching the hosts make your appetizers right in front of you, this place delivers the comfort of feeling at home in Dublin. We experienced amazing service while having some of the best fish and chips the world has seen! I wish the best for this shop and hope others get to experience it sometime -- PLEASE BOOK AHEAD. 9.75/10. read more

After reading all the rave reviews, we bookmarked this spot to try while in town. We arrived about 15 minutes before opening because we had no reservation. Though we were first in line, we were still crossing our fingers that we would be seated. Our party of 2 & another party of 2 behind us were seated as we entered, and the third party of 2 were told they could sit but for less than an hour. This was a Saturday, and several parties attempted to be seated while we ate but were only given takaway or an hours later reservation as options, so we felt very lucky! As the food came out, we felt even luckier: Smoked Haddock Croquettes - crunchy outside, rich creamy smoked inside Crab on Toast - fresh crab meat, light lemony mayo Butterhead & Mustard Vinaigrette - a beautiful whole head of lettuce with dressing so light, that it barely weighed each leaf down Haddock & Chips - the star of the meal! Lightly battered very fresh fish, great chunky fries, perfect tartar sauce We saw others getting the Filet O Fishshop & didn't feel so sorry for the takeaway crowd. Their to go menu is significantly smaller, but the best things are the fish & chips and that sandwich. We heard the takeaway orderers being told that there is a lovely park just around the corner where they can sit & enjoy the food while it's hot. I'd say, as long as it's not raining, that would bea very nice option if you can't be seated! read more
I went to Ireland for a weeklong birthday celebration and The Fish Shop was my first stop. All I could think of as I savored my Fish + Chips - "If this is how my entire week goes, this is going to be an INCREDIBLE week!" What I love about restaurants like these - they do one thing great, focus on that product and keep it simple. The restaurant is small, but so quaint and lovely. The service was phenomenal - I felt as if I had just returned home from a long-journey to be greeted by a long-lost friend. I had the Hake + Chips. The fish - so fresh, flakey and delicious. The batter was light, crispy and not greasy at all. It was the perfect compliment to the fish. The fish was served with Tartare Sauce. It had the perfect consistency and the right balance of ingredients. I enjoyed it with my fish, but honestly the fish was wonderful without it as well. The fish was served with just the right amount of chips. These too were cooked to perfection. Finally, I paired my fish with a lovely Muscadet. All in all an INCREDIBLE experience. I can't wait to go back to Ireland and Dublin, and the Fish Shop will certainly be the first place I visit. And as many reviewers have commented - MAKE A RESERVATION. read more

(4.5 stars) This place is such a vibe, it's small and intimate and has super tasty food. The fish and chips is a must, but don't sleep on the calamari to start. I just wish there was some hot sauce or something different to dip the fries in. Other than that, can't recommend this place more highly. read more
Was looking to stay local after 5 mile hike up Mt. Kippure and found the Fish Shop a block away from my hotel. Now most of the reviews spelled out reservation required, but gave it a walk-in try since I was stag hoping they could fit me in and WaLa they could, but time was limited to 1 hour, hey with no one to talk to but myself, no problem. Worst case take the leftovers on the run. Now it's hard to find good fish and chips anywhere and one would question why since it's mostly a simple dish. Of course it's not really that simple as the stars must be aligned to produce this dish properly. The right oil, not overused, right temperature of the oil, time to cook, the batter and ultimately the fish, in this case Haddock. Condiments aside the dish must stand on its own without Lemon, Vinegar, Tartar sauce or salt. The verdict, a clean 4 as the fish was not over/under cooked, flaky and no oil soaked into the batter. Without any condiments the fish could be eaten and enjoyed for it very essence. The meal started out with a appetizer of fried calamari that was cooked properly, not chewy or oily. The meal was paired with a dry white Spanish wine but the name escapes me. The staff was attentive, pleasant and understand the positive reviews. This place is small so make reservations as everyone after me was turned away while a few decided on takeout. read more

Believe the hype. I am from a seafood city and the fish and shellfish here is first rate. The breading is crispy and light, the fish is hot and perfectly tender, mussels were also wonderful. Make a reservation well in advance you will NOT be able to walk in and sit. Takeaway is always available. read more

We had a wonderful meal here during our time in Dublin. I knew we'd be spending time at lots of pubs so I was looking for something a little different and made a reservation here. Reservations are definitely important here - it's super small and we saw a lot of people get turned away - but they were definitely worth it. There was space for maybe 4-5 couples, all counter seats, no tables, but it felt cozy and intimate. I enjoyed the extensive wine menu, recommendations and great service from the staff, and the crispy, delicious, lightly breaded haddock. My partner got the plaice, which was also very good (similar, but a little lighter and flakier, maybe?). The fries were great and I appreciated the simplicity of the menu and the space. Would definitely return if I were back in Dublin, and will recommend to anyone who asks! read more
