Came by again with a friend and got some food. We split the Let's Not Meat sandwich. It's a veggie & vegan sandwich, made with vegan pesto. Music to my ears as I typically can't have pesto due to the cheese (lactose intolerant). The sandwich was really good, flavorful and had lots of healthy ingredients, and I didn't even miss having meat. The bread was really nice and fluffy too. This general store is a perfect stop on a walk on Rowena. The shop wares range from functional to fashionable, which I would say is perfect for last-minute gifts that are still thoughtful. The store is curated with an eclectic touch of practical kitchen ware to snacking items. Their coffee menu is also really creative. I got the miso caramel latte and it really did have layers of flavor. They do have an outside patio to relax as well. I have enjoyed coming to this store for their coffee and pastries the past few years. The vibe is cool and stuff is decent. However, something very weird and disturbing happened recently when I visited the store and ordered a croissant. I observed a fly inside the pastry box and brought it to the employee's attention. No apologies and no reactions from the cashier whatsoever. It's just not right nor acceptable. You are charging $7 for a croissant but can't even take care of your sanitation. read more

3/29/25 Update: Dear Broome St and Yelp community, I would like to officially rescind my previous review regarding a certain "green tinted milk" drink at Broome St. Cafe Staying true to my word that I would "be watching and waiting," I have since returned to this establishment and gained, on not one, not two, not even three, not even four, five? nope., six? try harder, "c'mon c'mon! what about seven!" ha! that's rich,, try closer to TWENTY separate times---a vibrantly green matcha of wonderful quality, mouth feel, and piquancy. It turns out you really just have to say these three magic words called "less milk please" and your whole world turns right-side up. I mean truly. I don't want to beat the dead horse to worse death but I really am saving them gallons of jugs by the week. And that's eggs in this economic climate.* Anyways, I am moving far, far away and will miss these baristas like Sarafina and Ben and an unnamed stylish boy who have pretty much become coworkers to me in a way. Especially Ben, who plays good MJ Lenderman songs and who is actually probably not as good as making the matcha as others (I'm sorry it's just true) but makes up for it THOUSANDfold in the vibes that he cultivates via aux and conversation. I pretty much actually don't really go that much unless he's working. Let this be a testament to A) never being committed to your original opinion of something and B) the power of the written word. I visited Broome with the sole purpose of finding gifts. They have a large variety of items like jewelry, home decor, and specialty foods so you're bound to find something. I thought the prices were pretty standard for a local shop like Broome. Some of the employees were not the friendliest but they weren't exactly mean. I love this little shop. It's dangerous for someone like me...but also so irresistible! They've got a lot of random bougie knick knacks like candles, cook books, seasoning and spices, lotions, cleaners, etc., and they also sell coffee (beans and actual drinks.) It's dangerous because I can spend a lot of money here. They have a cute patio in the front where you can hang out and sip (bring your pups as well) with a pal or two. It seems to be in a quiet neighborhood as well, so you won't have massive lines waiting to get into this little gem. I rated this 4 stars only because I haven't tried any of their drinks. Great find! After lunch in this area, I was looking for souvenirs to bring back to SF weekend. I highly recommend this store, I couldn't stop picking up and reading the labels for the novelty items I found here. Especially after walking into Reformation and the monocle shop & finding $145 belts and $300 jackets. What I reallyenjoy is it is more unisex, not just catering to women, and sells beyond fragrances, cards and makeup tools. I've also went to the co opportunity co-opt down the block (bought bees wax candles, shave soap, and LA based LA Mill coffee, otherwise I should've just bought here instead for ALL MY SOUVENIRS, because it's not a "general store," but a practical yet novelty store! I ordered the Yvette turquoise bracelet from Broome St. website. It broke...simply fell off of my wrist into my lap. I contacted Broome St. through their Instagram about the broken bracelet. I was told to email customer service which I did. I have not received a reply in over a month. I have contacted Broome St. through Instagram and see the multiple DMs have been read but I've been completely ignored. Cool place in Silver Lake for coffee and gifts. Katie B., our outstanding and bubbly CM, went to Broome Street General Store and wrote a great review about it, so I put it on my Bookmarked List of places to try. My son and I had just shopped at Toys 'R Us in Atwater, so I just pulled out my Yelp Bookmarks and sorted them by distance. I was happy to see that Broome Street General Store was just a couple miles away. If you are in Atwater you just head west on Los Feliz. Then make a left on Griffith Park Boulevard and then another left on Rowena. Right after you pass Hyperion it will be on your right hand side of the street. I have bad memories of Hyperion because I crashed my sister's moped on that street years ago after riding it all the way to the beach and back. I was trying to catch up to my friend and the pavement on Hyperion bridge going downhill was really slick. I ended up sliding 20 feet on my side in shorts. Road burns are not fun at all and I still have asphalt marks on my hip. Needless to say, Hyperion is not my favorite street, but I still like Silver Lake. There is metered parking on the street. Broome Street General Store occupies a little house with a patio outside with all the seating. It is right on Rowena which is kind of a busy street so it can be a little noisy. I would recommend that they put a nice fountain or two on that patio to help with the road noise. Some kind of mister would be good too. When I was there is was really warm and the only seating they have is outside. I am not trying to complain, but I just can envision the untapped potential of this charming little coffee house. When you enter the store it is filled with all sorts of cooking supplies, candy, honey and other gifts as well as the counter for ordering coffee, drinks and food. I noticed the pink and blue gum cigars if you know anyone who is expecting a child. I ordered a latte and was happy to see they do the latte art. It was very good too. It is very close to Silver Lake if you want to just grab something to go before your walk around the lake. read more

Slow down when looking for Broom because the street numbers go by fast and the store front not visible because is covered by the outdoor patio umbrellas. Broome is mostly a retail store with a coffee and pastry shop. The cafe serves and uses Verve Coffee which was used for the Mocha and the Cold Drip Coffee we ordered. Both were very strong and it has the bitterness that Im sure a lot of coffee drinkers look for. Glad their Kouign Amman was so very good. Perfect accompaniment to all that coffee. The perfume and cologne selection in this store is outstanding. I highly recommend going there for your aroma needs. There are a lot of fashionable canvas/leather bags available at this store though I gotta say, the aroma still stays inside my brain. Let me preface by saying this shop is VERY on top of covid precautions! They had plastic divider windows between customers and their food/beverages/staff. Additionally, they had disposable plastic gloves available at the entrance and also requested that I sanitize my hands before entering (also provided next to the gloves). The last time I stopped by here in the afternoon, they were sold out of all of their pastries for the day... So, I made sure that I came in today right when they first opened -- Wonderful decision on my part! I ordered the Meyer Lemon Blueberry scone, and it was clear they had just been freshly baked, as it was still warm. One of the best scones I've ever had, and hands down the best one I have had in the Los Angeles area thus far. I do wish that they had more of a selection of their pastries available... Today, for example, they only had 3 of the 9 scones on their menu available right at opening (they also had zero of their House-Made Buns -- the Cinnamon, Sticky-Icky, and White-Cheddar Chive). Perhaps this is just a limitation due to covid..? One of the cutest third wave coffee establishments in the Silverlake area. I'll agree with other reviews that their coffee, pastries and shop items are WAY overpriced ($90 tee shirts, $150 kid raincoat, $45 candle - you get the point), but it's a nice coffee option to the area and has a large outdoor patio. I usually stop by BS during weekday mornings if I'm able to find a street parking (which is limited & metered), or if I need a last minute gift. They have something for everyone; kid items, women's and men's clothes & accessories, greeting cards, jewelry, perfume, candles, etc. The staff is quiet & friendly, and the customers are perfect for people watching. You definitely feel like you're in Silverlake. Lots of hipster rich moms & dads visit this shop after dropping their little ones off at the private school next door, or stay at home moms wrapping up their yoga class next door. If you're in the mood for additional shopping, you can walk across the street to the official Broome St. General Store - this venue in particular is a mixture of coffee shop/retail shop. This store is Uber-CUTE! I came here today, after randomly discovering it because I had some time before an appointment. It's a very cute little store with a lovely area outside to sit and enjoy some of the goodies you can get inside. I walked in and was perusing the bakery section when I saw what looked to be a ham and swiss pastie. I love pasties so I ordered one heated up. It was $6 which in my opinion is a bit steep, but hey - it's Silverlake! The man at the counter told me it'd take about five minutes to warm up so I was looking all all the other goodies here. They have jarred honeys, old fashioned candies, and lots of stuff that I presume is for cooking - but heck, I don't cook. There was plenty of stuff for me to "ooh" and "ahh" over here, although I was more of a "look but don't touch" kind of person because some of the prices weren't marked and those that were scared me (I'm a cheapskate!). My pastie was ready and I took a seat outside to enjoy it. I love the little patio. It was so cute and although it was on a somewhat busy street you could very easily get lost in a book here, this is NOT the place for loud obnoxious business phone calls you loud obnoxious business-y people! This is a place to chillax! The pastie was a hit and a bit of a miss for me. Personally, I loved the buttery flakey crust. Any pastie lover will tell you it's all about the crust. It was delicious. The filling was also delicious, although parts of it were still cold and for being heated up for over 5 minutes I expected more of an ooey-gooey cheesy goodness. If it was cooked through a bit more and a bit more melty and gooey it would have totally been a 5 star snack! All in all this place is very cute.
