Went in to guy an EGO hedge trimmer because they had a great price online and it was in stock, unlike at the big Orange and Blue stores. Really friendly service from the guys working there and a cool throwback to hardware stores I remember growing up. Prices all seemed very reasonable. read more

Stopped in for a quart of paint, walked out with a bunch of stuff I didn't realize I needed. For a neighborhood store they have everything! Sure it may not be as homogenized as the bigger stores but it does have an old school charm. I like being able to support the little guys so a few more dollars isn't going to scare me off. This hardware store is not in my area so I don't think I will be going back any time soon, but that said we had a great experience picking up a snow blower here. The gentleman that helped us was knowledgeable about the snowblower we bought and gave us some maintenance and care tips for the machine while loading it into our car. read more

I hate to be negative about a small business. I was excited to try this place instead of my usual trip to Lowe's. However, I will not be returning. This place is extremely filthy and disorganized. No one was available to ask questions and when I finally found someone to help me he had no idea what I was talking about, which is crazy because I am the LEAST handy person. Here is a picture of one of the aisles, with items everywhere in random piles. I don't know how anyone finds anything in this place. Terribly rude old man there, who ensured I will never return, and you shouldn't bother going in. I shopped, had to make a call, and when I returned this guy shooed me out of the store because I hadn't made a purchase upon my first visit moments earlier. He has hearing aids, but is completely tone deaf to the needs of the customer. First and last time I go to that place, please save your time and go to Lowe's down the block. They have a better selection and a staff that is happy to help, not upset that you return to purchase goods. read more

Great little place, it may be family owned. They have SOOOO much stuff packed into a little place. I came here for mason jars, they had 3 cases but i needed 6, they told me to just come back on Thursday, they were pleasant and helpful. Having a fully stocked hardware in town is a great thing opposed to the large chain businesses. Brother's Harware carries top of the line products at reasonable prices. I love the Grden area. It's a family-run business for over 30 years dedicated to our town and surrounding area. I can no longer deal with employees who have no knowledge of the products and supplies they carry... I cannot deal with Home Depot and Lowes any longer. Brothers has deep knowledge in all are's of what you need to do the job. They take the time to go over their products with instruction o it's correct usage. Eliminating going back and forth to the larger store and having done the project wrong. The family is friendly and committed to satisfying their customers. I Thank you so much for everything! Your genuine consideration and willingness to help are greatly appreciated. I would love to support any legitimate business in this lovely but struggling Bergen County borough, but not only is the staff unpleasant and singularly unfriendly, they also refuse to allow returns, even if they agree the product is defective. The salesperson said he'd need to "call the company" (referring to True Value Hardware's headquarters in Chicago) and that they would not be reachable until 9:00 a.m. CDT. He took my name and phone number but never got back to me. Regrettable behavior. Stay away. Caveat emptor! read more

This is a great local hardware store run for years by several generations of a family. They're very knowledgeable and helpful and will take a lot of time explaining things to you. You got to love Brothers Hardware for carrying on the grand tradition of local hardware/general stores. It used to be that what someone would move into a new town the first thing they would look for is a good hardware store. This store always seems to have what is needed even when it is an obscure weird thingee. The family is not only your Rutherford neighbors but will also share with you their terrific experience in the ways and whys of what they sell. And if they don't have the answer, then your plumber, painter or electrician is in the next aisle anyway. I wanted to place an order online with Ace Hardware to have an item picked up at this location. On the website it states that the person placing the order must pick up the product and have picture ID. I called Ace Hardware before placing the order and told that them I would not be able to pick up the product myself. They told me that all I had to do was call Brothers Hardware and tell them who would be picking up the product. When I did this, I was told by Brothers Hardware that they would not allow anyone but me to pick up the product (I live 3,000 miles away so this is NOT possible.) I called Ace Hardware to report the issue since I was specifically told by them, that I could have someone else pick up the product. The Ace Hardware representative that I spoke with called Brothers Hardware to clear up the situation and to assure them that I was told someone else could pick up the product for me. Brothers Hardware, still, refused to cooperate. My order has been canceled and I need to wait for a refund. Beyond disappointed in Brothers Hardware and their inability to cooperate not only with me, but with the Ace Hardware representatives. read more

It is the essence of a family owned local business. One of the sons is a policeman, the other is a volunteer fireman, the father, mother, and daughter also work there. They are a very civic-minded family devoted to Rutherford. I so appreciate having real human beings to get advice and recommendations from, and they have a lot of experience and local knowledge. Yesterday Steve went the extra mile to get us some information about a product that was not on a label. More than once, Anthony has delivered heavy equipment that would not fit in our little car, free of charge. Their official policies are kind of tough, but if they know you, they will be a bit more flexible. Be neighborly. It pays off. read more

My recent visit to Ace Hardware on 10 orient way, Rutherford NJ was horrible customer service experience. I normally do not shop here but Employee Sam was very helpful with his guidance with thermocouple over the phone so I decided to go to this store and purchase. However another employee Jessica's interaction with me was horrible. I was about to purchased the thermocouple with Sam and we were discussing about return policy and he said it would be ok to return as long as the pkg was not opened and if I did not need it. And at that point Jesssica intervened rudely saying well if you plan to return you should not buy... may be I should shop elsewhere. I work in retail so I know this is not how I would treat my customers if I really wanted to create business. I decided I did not want to go through this grief if I were to become a customer here. This was terrible way to speak to potential customer and no one wonder there were no other shoppers in the store. My feedback as a customer, Someone in charge should train this employee properly on customer service or patronizing customers professionally. STAY AWAY! I have to agree with other yelper that the return policy is terrible. They actually deter you from buying. This is the worse side of this small business as there is no accountability or standards or fairness. read more

A good family-owned hardware store with a wide variety in stock and very reasonable prices, also one of the few places in the area where you can get Benjamin Moore paint. I've had some disappointments color matching here, but everything else has been solid (originally I was convinced they were matching on their phones - additive color devices vs. the subtractive color of paint - but they showed me their spectrophotometers on a subsequent visit, so they're doing it the right way). read more
