I placed a food order for Christmas, the promised delivery date was 12-18. No delivery I called customer service, one hour later I was told they had know idea when my purchase would arrive. I received an e-mail on 12-20 stating my purchase would arrive on the 23rd or 24th. No delivery, now the web site says 1-7-2026. This was the most pathetic customer service experience I have ever had. When you call customer service the representative has no power to refund a non delivery. I was told they can't refund once the item has been paid for. read more

(Update) Always enjoy stopping in Williams Sonoma. Customer service is always very good. They have more sales than ever! The Upper Montclair WS is a lot smaller than some of their NJ and NY shoppes. During the past couple of months, I picked up sales on the Winterberry Diffuser and Potpourri for myself, a friend. and my hairdresser. Also, I gave the French Lavender Diffuser to my niece. Everyone LOVED the scents of home fragrances! Metered Parking is available both on the street and municipal lot in the back of the store. read more

DO NOT SHOP HERE, very deceitful practice. They charge you for items to be shipped to store for pickup, but the real kicker is that the shipping charge does not show until you place your order. Then when you realize they've charged for shipping it's nearly impossible to cancel your order. I don't even know how this is legal. I have never been charged for an item to be shipped to store anywhere else & nearly every other store has free shipping over $50 or $100. This place wants you to join their rewards program for $99 per year to get free shipping. Absolutely ridiculous & again, very shady business. read more

DON'T SHARPEN YOUR KNIVES HERE!! A caution after my bad experience. I bought my chef's knife a couple of years and notice is starting to get dull. I thought, why not, get it sharpened. I got the knife back the next day TOTALLY SERRATED, JAGGED, and with the TIP CHIPPED. It looks like they threw the knife at a wall rather than sharpen it. The employee refused to give me the name of the person who sharpened it when I asked three or four times. No help, no refund offered, and then tried to say it came in that way!! LOL. As if it wouldn't be obvious. I feel ripped off. It was smooth before, now my knife looks like a saw. I will just sharpen my knives myself in the future. Thank you for the learned lesson!! read more

When I entered, I was almost immediately approached by a sales associate, who was kind enough to ask if I needed help finding anything. I told her that in addition to some good quality bakeware I had already selected, I was looking for a bread knife in a lower price range. She told me that if price was an issue, I was better off going to HomeGoods. She also suggested that I "come back in a few years when you can afford it". She then gave me her name in case I needed anything else, so thanks. All the other associates were so kind and helpful, but I'm not inclined to shop at this location again. read more

I went here the other day for the first time to pick up a gift that I ordered online to pick up in store- first, it took forever to get a hold of someone to help me, then when I asked the employee if a gift receipt was present or not since I did not understand when I ordered on the website, she rudely and sarcastically responded "we'll gift receipts don't normally just appear so if you didn't ask for it you wouldn't get it". I was taken back and baffled by the rudeness. Honestly just for that I will probably never step foot in here again. Everything is overpriced junk anyway. read more

I parked paid the meter in the upper MONTCLAIR Nj store which I frequent often the door was locked there was a part time employee in the parking lot who told me they were closed for inventory for the day , ugh my defrosted short ribs would wait a day. So I returned today only to find the nasty manager said my coupon expired yesterday , I explained that I was there but they were closed , her redone was you should have ordered it online ! Great store, friendly staff, and some knowledgeable managers who are willing to do demonstrations and explain/demonstrate some of the more esoteric tools (such as the knife sharpener). If you do want a demonstration, I suggest calling ahead to see if they can set up a time for you. One thing is that we wanted to buy some items for the holidays, but the sales available online just wouldn't ring up in the stores. The manager tried calling the W&S tech support, but was unable to resolve this... so sad, I know. Either way, this is a cheerful, well laid out store, and I am very excited to try out their turkey gravy base that everyone seems to rave about! read more

Upscale kitchen gadgets, cookware, cutlery, etc. at higher than average (expensive) prices. If you need it in your kitchen (with the exception of major appliances) they've got it. Sauces, mixes, seasoning, cookbooks, stocks, they've got you covered. They even do demos to get you on your way towards properly using much of this stuff. The staff is pretty friendly and willing to help. The parking is ample, both with on-street and lot spaces--all metered. They rotate their stock pretty frequently to accommodate seasonal items. For example, more BBQ sauces and rubs in the summer, stuffing helper around Thanksgiving, cookies for Christmas, etc. read more

My experience at this store has made me anxious to shop again soon-- strictly for the staff. I stopped by with a Christmas return that had originally been purchased at an outlet. I was told via the 800 number that this would've been allowed but upon arrival was explained that isn't the case (store cannot accept Outlet returns.) after a 30 minute drive and a struggling walk with a box larger than myself-- I was preparing for yet another retail letdown. And then came mickey- the store manager. Even though he could've easily reiterated the policy and turned me away, Mickey worked with the outlet staff and I to come up with a solution. His primary focus was to help me any way he could-- even though I wasn't planning on making a purchase that day. Buyer beware!! Don't get hoodwinked by these people!! Watch out for the latest act of retail trickery!!! I purchased Christmas gifts on 12/22/14 and when I attempted to return some of the unwanted items on 12/27/14, the store refused to honor their own published return policy. Why? Buried in fine print on the receipt is a statement that items whose price ends in $0.99 or $0.97 are NOT returnable!! Even when I pointed out that the expiration dates on the items were a couple of days away, the store stood firm. I then pointed to one item that had obviously been opened prior to purchase because the contents had leaked around the kid and it stuck the lid to the jar like glue, the lid could not be removed, and it looked as though the contents were spoiled or contaminated. I squad they had no business selling opened food items. They said this didn't matter - the policy was the policy. Also be aware that under the Consumer Protection Act of New Jersey, retailers in New Jersey are required by law to conspicuously post their return policy in at least the following specific locations - 1. Attached to the item itself. 2. Affixed to each cash register or point of sale 3. Clearly visible to the buyer from the cash register, or 4. Posted at each store entrance used by the public The retail merchant must state [in their posted return policy] under what conditions a refund will be given. Businesses with no posted refund policies shall be liable to the buyer, for up to 20 days from the date of purchase, for a cash refund or a credit, at the buyer's option, provided the merchandise has not been used or damaged (N.J.SA 56:8-2.14). NO SUCH POLICY WAS POSTED BY WILLIAMS-SONOMA AS REQUIRED BY LAW! HIDING IT IN FINE PRINT ON THE RECEIPT IS NOT ONLY UNETHICAL, UNDER THE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT OF NJ, WHAT THIS STORE HAS DONE IS AGAINST THE LAW AND IS CONSIDERED CONSUMER FRAUD!!! read more

I've only been here twice and it's already become one of my favorite stores. After starting to order food from hello fresh (there is a lot of prepping involved) I decided to splurge on some knives. The girl there patiently explained all of their different knives and let me try them to see if I liked the weight, shape of handle ect. I bought a set of Global Classic (pretty darn good sale) and I am in LOVE!! Everyone who cooks a lot needs to splurge on a high quality set of knives!! They go through a sweet potato like if it was butter! I came back last week to register for my bridal shower. Yes they are expensive but you get what you pay for. Everyone is friendly here, the store is kept clean and organized, and there is on street parking as well as a lot in the back. read more

I was going to tell a salesperson but spouse said just put it back and don't make a scene. I hope everyone is checking the expired dates on packaging there. This is unacceptable. I highly recommend coming to this store if you have very specific cooking needs, or recipes, and bring some $$$ because chances are, you'll go gaga. Even though my order had a "do not ship until after ..." they shipped the item immediately to a house that no one was living in it. I have been going to this location for many years. Several years ago I stopped going because they had two elderly female employees who were, unfortunately, rather stuck up and haughty. This was a complete turnoff so I did my shopping online. Thankfully, those days are long gone and I find the staff to be friendly, upbeat, and helpful.
