Before moving in, we renovated and redid the fireplace inside and while all the construction was going on we discovered a leak in the chimney! Turned out we needed a new chimney cap and some other repairs. After all that and the chilly weather we have been having, I had John book us an inspection and sweep. I didn't want to take any chances with the new house! We scheduled a level II inspection and sweep. There was a wait to get an appointment- but today they were 10 minutes early and took about 40 minutes for the two men to check and clean our chimney. They said it was one of the cleanest they had ever seen! I'm sure the new cap helped- but also they believe the chimney was barely used. The gentleman (Michael) who came into the house was very professional- he removed his shoes, made sure to lay down a drop cloth and even covered the front of the fireplace to keep any soot to a minimum. Our report is very thorough- everything is to code and in good condition. And I currently have a fire blazing even though it's not too chilly out! Had I known the leak was not so much the roof- but a chimney problem, I probably would have had a quote from this company!

When scheduling a chimney sweep with this company, please be aware that if your chimney is deemed unsafe for use, you will still be responsible for the inspection fee. In our case, this fee was $325.00. Our situation arose because a contractor modified our fireplace for aesthetic purposes but inadvertently damaged it, rendering it unsafe. Due to liability concerns, Hudson declined to perform the sweep, which we fully understand. However, we were unaware that the inspection alone--consisting of a visual assessment from our living room--would incur a $325 charge without any sweeping service provided. The company asserts that this fee was disclosed during the initial appointment setup, but we maintain that it was not. We requested a recording of the call, which was not provided. As a result, this remains a dispute of verbal assurances. We advise all potential customers to confirm all applicable charges before scheduling. The entire interaction seems as if the goal was for a sales pitch from the start. The people who came to our home were very nice but it was obvious what the end goal was from the start. For comparison, Hudson quoted us $13,500 give or take to replace our entire wood burning fire box which was deemed necessary by them but three other licensed and insured companies inspected our fireplace at NO COST and confirmed that repairs--not a full replacement--were not only sufficient but possible. This was later verified with the county. We believe transparency regarding fees is essential and the fact that we are even having this conversation serves a proof that they notice of the inspection fee was clearly not sufficient enough. We're not people who just complain for refunds. We believe in paying for services in our community. We remain out $325 for an inspection we did not anticipate, despite the company's claim of prior disclosure. Feel free to message for the names of the other companies if you need a second or third quote. WE SHOULD HAVE READ REVIEWS WITH THIS COMPANY FIRST. OTHER CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE BEING CHARGED OVER $350 FOR NO WORK BEING DONE AND QUOTED HIGH PRICES ONLY TO FIND MANY OTHER EQUALLY OR HIGHER QUALIFIED COMPANIES WHO CAN RENDER THE SAME SERVICES OR BETTER FOR A FRACTION OF THE PRICE WITH NO FEE TO TAKE A PICTURE IN YOUR LIVINGROOM.
