This business is locally owned by Nikki and her daughters. I've been getting my eyebrows threaded here for 3 years now and they are all fantastic and very nice. Masks are required to enter and receive service. Nikki is sanitizing well between each guest and always does your arch according your facial structure. There usually isn't more than 3 people in the store at a time and this includes the service provider! It takes less than 10 minutes and lasts 2-3 weeks depending on your hair growth. Eyebrow threading is just neat. Seriously, Google it and watch some of the videos on YouTube. It's kind of mesmerizing to watch these women twist and wrap the thread in such a way that they can then use it just like tweezers to pluck whole lines of hair at once. The thread makes this kind of neat clicking noise as it's pulled taut, and they're able to get a set of brows shaped and cleaned up in about ten minutes. WAY less time than tweezing! I've been a threading convert for a few months now, but wasn't thrilled with the place near work where I'd been going to get it done. They did a fine job on my brows, but they weren't very personable. (Not that I want you to tell me your life story while you're grooming my face, but a "Hi! How are you today?" would have been nice. But that's another review for another time.) I knew that Brow Expressions had recently started operating in Lawrence, and since I drive down 23rd Street every day on my way home from work anyway, I decided to drop in a couple of nights ago and see how it compared. I should start off this story by giving you a little background information: I lost my bank card about a week ago and haven't gotten my replacement yet. I didn't have any cash on me before I went in to get my brows done, but I did have an American Express gift card my employer had given me as a Christmas present, so I figured I'd just use part of that to treat myself to a little self-care. When I walked in, the owner was busy working on another young lady, so she gestured to the waiting area and invited me to sit down while I waited. I hopped on my phone and looked the place up on my handy Yelp app (get it if you don't have it already!) to see what the reviews were like. Only one, but it was positive. I am always more comfortable at a place if at least one other Yelper liked it, so I already felt pretty good about my decision to try this place out. The place was pretty sparsely furnished, and I got a chuckle out of the fact that there were still some Halloween decorations up... along with the Christmas things left over from the week before. Still, I'm not one to judge a place solely on the decorations, and that other Yelp review gave me more than enough confidence in the owner's skill to ignore her lack of timely decor changes. When it was my turn to jump in the chair, the owner had me in and out in about eight minutes. (Yes, I timed it.) That's saying quite a lot, too, because my brow region was starting to look a little... sasquatchy. She cleaned them up in record time, and only teased me a little when my eyes started to water. The results were fantastic--no stray hairs, clean lines, and overall relatively little pain. When we were all done, she gave my angry skin a swipe with some witch hazel to calm it down and then ushered me over to the counter to pay. When I showed her my card, she gave me some bad news: they didn't take AmEx. She offered to run it through anyway, just to see if it would work, but no luck. Cue panic mode. I had literally NOTHING else to pay with. I apologized over and over again, telling her what an idiot I was, saying I was sorry I hadn't asked before she started. I had checks I could use, if she'd take them, but they were at home. I offered to leave my things there and go straight home to grab a check and then come right back to pay her. "It's okay, sweetheart," she told me, smiling. "You bring me a check tomorrow. It's cold. You don't need to come back out tonight." I have never had a business owner act so understanding about awkward pay situations! I still felt horrible (not to mention soooooo stupid), but I was relieved that she was being so nice about the whole thing. The next evening, I ran in on my way home from work and dropped a check off with her for the price of the eyebrows and a big tip. I apologized again about a hundred times, but she assured me that there was no need. She thanked me for the extra tip, even. I am so glad I decided to check this place out. It's always good when a place has satisfactory products or services, but it really makes a huge difference when the people who run it go the extra mile to take care of their customers. (Especially when their customers goof up! That's when you find out who the REALLY nice business owners are!) I will definitely be choosing Brow Expressions again whenever my facial hair situation becomes problematic. Which is often, so I hope she keeps plenty of thread in stock! read more

Honestly, it's so hard to find someone to do exactly what you want with your brows, but I highly, highly recommend this place after having some bad experiences elsewhere in Lawrence. I feel bad in writing this review, in that I don't actually know the name of the woman who runs Brow Expressions, but she is great! The first time I went, I had grown my brows out for several months to try and get their natural shape back. She did an excellent job evening them out! I've never regularly had my brows done by someone; in the past I'd go once a year or so after losing the shape from home plucking, but she does such a great job I have started treating myself and going regularly. She is also very sweet and friendly and I feel good to support her business. You can just walk in. It's never been busy when I've been there, but I imagine there are probably peak times. I've never had to wait for more than 2 others to finish. She takes about 10 minutes to thread brows. If you've never done threading before, it's a little painful. It probably hurts slightly less than waxing, but it takes longer so the pain is spread out. But it's much gentler on your skin, as you don't lose a thin layer of it to wax. Brows cost $15, I don't know the prices of other services. She prefers that you pay cash or check, but I believe she takes cards as well. The only downside is the parking lot. There is always available parking, but the layout leaves the aisles very cramped and people seem to drive TERRIBLY in this parking lot for some reason. So be careful! read more

I've never had my eyebrows threaded before and I was delighted with the experience. The shop is very clean has late hours (until 9pm) so you can just walk in when it's convenient for you. The owner did my eyebrows and they have never looked better! I've been waxing for 10+ years and I will now always have them threaded. You get such a nice arch and it really isn't any more painful than waxing, plus it's better for your skin! I was in and out in under 10 minutes for only $15. They also offer waxing as well and have a punch card for $5 off after 5 services. Go check them out! read more

I'm glad I paid attention to all the great reviews this salon has received, as they're all on point and make the trek from the opposite side of town totally worth it. The nicest woman in all of Lawrence works there, and takes care of my brows quickly and with great care. I know I'll have to move out of town someday, but this place makes me really sad to have to do so. The ONLY place to get your eyebrows threaded in Lawrence! Nikki (the owner, ask her name people!) is an amazingly sweet woman who works from open to close what seems like 7 days a week. I've lived all over the country, and she shapes my brows better than anyone. If you've never gotten your eyebrows threaded, don't wear makeup or contacts. Your eyes will water! Occasionally a young girl is in there, who does a decent job, but doesn't have the years of experience that Nikki does. Sometimes when I see that she is there and Nikki isn't, I wish I could turn around and walk out. I wish there was a way to create an appointment or request her without feeling guilty or awkward. The parking in this lot is crowded, but there are always a few spaces. The Family Video next door is always PACKED, which is strange considering it's 2015, but I digress... There is a special going for $8 eyebrows on Tuesdays. Make sure you get a punch card! And bring cash! You can pay with a card in a pinch, but they prefer cash. Don't forget to tip. :) read more

OMG I love this place. Now Ive never had my eyebrows threaded and people in Lawrence always would tell me that they would have to travel all the way out to KC to get theirs done. This is the first time I have had my eyebrows done. I have always had to do my own eyebrows. When I walked in this sweet little lady came and greeted me and made me feel welcomed. The procedure is a little painful especially since its my first time however she had tissue ready to go for me and let me get myself together after she was done. I had been wanting to try eyebrow threading for a while, especially since I have really crazy eyebrows and don't particularly like waxing. I've been here about six or seven times now, and it's always a really quick process and leaves my brows looking great! The woman who does the threading is also really nice, and I always enjoy talking with her. She does encourage her customers to pay with cash or check as opposed to credit/debit (though she can take cards), so I would definitely recommend that customers keep that in mind when stopping in. read more

I had never had my brows threaded before, and I am so glad I went here. The shop was super clean, and she welcomed me the second I walked in (I didn't have an appt., just was driving by). I told her that my brows never looked good and I had always wanted to try threading, and she said she would fix them right up. I sat in a comfy chair and she worked her magic--seriously, it was magic. She threaded them (which I thought was way less painful than waxing), trimmed them, plucked a few strays, then threaded a little more to clean it up. My brows look awesome-- I had no idea they could be shaped this nicely. She definitely has a gift. Save yourself $25 and do not get a pedicure here. I came because of the positive eyebrow reviews thinking that a pedicure couldn't be too far off. I was wrong. The towels were dirty, the utensils were reused, and I paid for them to buff my feet with Softsoap. They cannot accommodate more than two pedicures at a time, although that wasn't communicated when we scheduled 3. They did not have toe separators or disposable flip-flops, which meant I walked across their dirty tile floor to sit on a couch while my toes dried (no dryers). Both women were nice, however, I will never come back for a pedicure again. read more

My favorite eyebrow place ever. The owner is incredibly kind and so lovely to talk to. Coming to visit her in her shop is so comforting, it's almost therapeutic. I'm often insecure around beauty professionals because sometimes they make me feel like they're scrutinizing everything about my appearance, but she is just as nice as can be. Eyebrows cost $13 and her hours are really convenient. I've only ever just walked in without an appointment and I've only had to wait once. The actual threading part takes about ten minutes. Threading is painful for sure, but the end result is so worth it. It's much better for your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. Waxing has always left me red and sore for at least a day afterwards; with threading I'm just a little pink for a few minutes. And most importantly, it looks SO BEAUTIFUL. I can tell my whole face looks more lifted and brighter when my eyebrows are threaded. Something about how they shape them! She is absolutely wonderful. My brows look so good after, just as good as expensive waxes I have paid for in big name salons. She trims them and plucks them too. I find I break out less from threading than wax. Leave the witch hazel on as along as possible after, that helps. It also helps when you're makeup free, too. If you're afraid of the pain, pop an aspirin 30 minutes or so before. But its very quick. read more

I adore this place! I have always had my eyebrows plucked or waxed, but threading is definitely the way to go! My eyebrows have never looked better in my life, and it was barely painful at all. I did not have hardly any redness at all from the threading whereas with waxing, I've had it stay red for days. The lady who works there is so nice and friendly and she gave me exactly what I asked for. I sincerely hope they stay in business (I was the only customer) because I plan on using them often! I went to Brow Expressions a couple of days ago to get my brows threaded for the first time and I am extremely happy with the results! I just walked in during the middle of the day and it was no problem! The owner of the store is an extremely nice Persian lady who gave me so many helpful hints on beauty products and she really cares about making you as beautiful as can be! During the process we talked about beauty products and about her family and it was an very relaxed atmosphere. This was my first time getting my eyebrows threaded and I will never go back to waxing! It was quick, painless and makes your eyebrows look so much better! I also decided to get my eyebrows tinted because I have very light blonde hair and I love the results! Also I have had problems in the past with waxing and breakouts, none of which occur with threading. I highly highly recommend this store. She offers great prices, is clean and she really cares. My eyebrows have never looked this good and were pretty unruly before I went in! They have so much more shape and definition and really change my face. The owner even thanked me for giving her a tip which made me want to tip her more! It was an overall great experience and I would definitely recommend to everyone. I love this place! Thick, dark, caterpillar eyebrows run in my family, think Sam the Eagle from "The Muppets'". I'm not fond of waxing (breakouts and just bad experiences make me weary) so I thought I'd give threading a whirl. And I'm so glad I did! Before I moved to Lawrence I had a standing appointment every two weeks to get my eyebrows waxed. I'd never done threading but was looking for a place here in town. I've been several times and the lady who calls me sweetheart is so very nice and does an excellent job. I will say though that I can really relax during waxing and almost fall asleep. It doesn't hurt. When they tweeze the final ones that hurts. Threading however hurts so bad. It's like every little hair is getting pulled out one at a time really fast. It is less painful when I don't miss and wait more than two weeks. The price at $13 is better than Beauty Brands waxing and my eyebrows look better. read more

Was walking past and decided to give them a try. From the very beginning the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive! The women asked me how I wanted my brows shaped and made sure I wasn't uncomfortable during any point in the threading process, very skilled, the process did not hurt at any moment! Amazing! First time getting my eyebrows threaded. I have thick, flat shaped eyebrows and I explained to her that I didn't like the shape but I wanted to keep the thickness if possible, she shaped and it does not look over plucked. I come here once a month or so to get my eyebrows and upper lip done. The owner is so polite and always greets me with 'How have you been sweetheart?' Threading is always a little painful to me so she also hands me a tissue for my tears before we begin. But I absolutely love the results once it's over with.
