The stylist I had was Ella, and not only did she do an incredible job, but she also recommended products that have been absolutely life changing. I used to have to brush my hair out 4+ times a day, but with this new product, I was able to go 3 days without brushing it when I didn't have a hairbrush available--and it looked perfectly fine! 10/10 to this business; I would highly recommend going here! When I went to my appointment and was greeted with a warm welcome. Macey was my stylist and she was so sweet. I called around lots of salons in Lawrence trying to get a quick appointment within a day or two, and I was pleased that Lou & Co squeezed me in for a 30 min. appt. for bangs. The interior of the salon is bright, clean, and peaceful, and I was offered a water/tea upon checking in. I didn't realize this is an Aveda salon, which I don't view as either a pro or a con, because I have never used Aveda products before. But I'm sure this is a plus if you are about the all-natural, homeopathic, sustainable beauty scene. My stylist Anna was friendly and gave a brief consult to understand what I was looking for. She did a good job of listening to me and asking if I was satisfied or if she needed to touch it up more. She also seemed to know what she was doing cutting my 3A curls. Overall I am happy with my new bangs, but she said I could come back for a touch-up if I decided I wanted them shorter. I was super pleasantly surprised that my cost was only $11! Sure, I had a short appt. and I only wanted bangs, and didn't require washing or additional trimming. But I still figured with service costs and at such a nice salon it would be more than that. I was visiting my daughter for the weekend for her birthday. I got appointments for both of us to make her day special and feel a little pampered. They called my daughter 2 days prior to ask what she would like done to her hair and what kind of hair she had. My daughter has curly hair and asked for a half up/half down do. First, we were actually seated on either side of the salon unable to chat with one another. It was first thing in the morning and there was plenty of room. My hair was ok-just asked for blow out, but nothing great. To be honest, all I cared about was my daughters' hair. I watched the stylists doing her hair rolling her eyes and just frustrated because she didn't know how to fix her hair. Curly hair is hard to work with, but they knew before the appointment. Her hair looked absolutely terrible! I sent a message to the salon and they said they would fix it later in the afternoon. I said we would be gone by then celebrating her birthday, so I wrote back and asked for a refund since my daughter had to re-wash and style her hair. She never responded back to me-so unprofessional and disrespectful! UPDATE-I did get reimbursed the morning after I left this review. read more

I had my hair done here for a full highlight. I had to reschedule multiple times due to academic conflict and the appointment that I got was with a different hair stylist than whom I had consulted with. The new lady I got was so weird and awkward. She asked me what I wanted done with my hair and I told her, "Even out the tone and touch up my roots." She then proceeded to stare at me for around ten seconds before she, "uh ok, I'll see what I can do." When I finally sat down, she was asking me if I had any previous color in my hair and I told her, jokingly, "no but I did want to dye it pink, but my lifestyle doesn't support that." She then just said, "what?" I assumed she didn't hear me, so I asked her if she heard me and she just said, "no." When she finished applying the lightener and foils she asked me if I wanted any lightener on my scalp, so I asked how much of my roots were showing. She told me, "Barely anything." Tell me why when I saw the finished product there was about three quarters of an inch of roots still showing on my head. That's not "barely anything" to me. I paid about $150 for the service and I will never be paying that lady again. For her sake, I'm not going to name her, but I hope she or her employer sees this review. read more

This place is a little bit on the pricier side if you book a master stylist, but you will not regret the magic that is done to your hair. Worth every penny! I scheduled an appointment for a cut and style at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, November 11. At 2:35 p.m. (as I was looking for a parking place outside of the salon), the salon called and informed me that an "unexpected client" had arrived and my stylist now wanted me to come in at 3:15 so she could accommodate this other client. So I drove back home. At 3 p.m. I called the salon to make sure they could accommodate me at 3:15 p.m. and SURE ENOUGH...after a lengthy hold, the receptionist told me that no, I should wait and come in at 3:30 p.m. I arrived at 3:30 p.m. and sat until 4 p.m. when my stylist (Molly) was available. Got my haircut (which took over an hour, which is not normal at this place.) The receptionist was shocked when I went to pay and asked how much of a discount I was going to get, given the massive inconvenience of having my appointment rescheduled twice. (Oh, turns out the "unexpected client" was a college student who came in, claiming she had made an appointment online - and instead of the service she requested (which would have taken about an hour) she wanted a different, much more time intensive service which took about 2 hours.) So SHE was accommodated while I (a long-time customer who usually tips the stylists about 25-30 percent) was disrespected and rescheduled without a thought to what my schedule might have been like on that day, or what else I had to do. I did get a small discount on my cut/style. But NEVER have I had any business treat me in such an unprofessional and disrespectful way. They should have told the other client that she needed to reschedule her appointment for another day, and respected the fact that I and other clients had already made appointments, which should have been honored. THIS IS THE THIRD time that Lou and Company have screwed me over, and I'm done. The last time I went in, I had expressly requested a specific stylist, and had confirmed that he would be doing my cut and style. When I arrived at the salon, OOOOOPS! He was busy and the only stylist available was a very junior stylist who didn't give me nearly the quality of cut and style I wanted (and was willing to pay for). Plus, their online appointment scheduling software is horrible - half of the time you arrive at the salon and they have no record of your having made an appointment online (yes, that's happened to me twice.) So, having given this salon not one, not two, not three but FOUR CHANCES to redeem themselves, I am done. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS SALON - THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY ZERO LOYALTY OR RESPECT FOR LONG-TIME CLIENTS. What a terrible way to run your business. read more

My daughter received the WORST haircut that I have ever seen done by a license stylist!!!She specifically asked Melissa for a trim no more than 2 inches off and no bangs!!! When she left she did not know how to handle the situation that had taken play. She left so upset as 7 inches were taken off and the sides of her hair were chopped so horribly uneven, it looked like a horrible attempt of bangs!! When I tried to talk to the owner she would not return my phone call and after calling twice I found out the stylist was new! No information at all was provided of this to my daughter when she scheduled the appointment!!! As a business owner you would think she would want to address her inexperienced stylist to provide a training opportunity and apologize for putting a young college girl through the emotional turmoil she went through, but nothing at all!!! We had to take her to a REPUTABLE salon and they spent over an hour fixing her hair!!!it is horrible that they would do this to a young college girl!! There is no better smell than the smell of an Aveda salon. This is the 3rd salon I have tried since moving to Lawrence. I left the first two unhappy. I decided to give Lou & Co a shot because I missed my Aveda salon in Atlanta. I am not typically chatty when I get my hair done, as I'm fairly socially awkward. This time was different. I booked an appointment last minute, so I didn't even take the time to read the stylists' bios on the website. I got Lindsay. I got lucky. I wasn't sure about the color I wanted, but I never felt rushed while we looked at swatches and while I talked about all of my previous mishaps. I decided on an allover dark brown. Lindsay is so cool and so easy to talk to. We chatted for most of the nearly 3 hours I was there, except when I was falling asleep during the blow dry. The color looks great, and I feel great about finally finding a stylist and salon I want to revisit. I can't wait for my current, hideous cut (from a different salon) to grow out a bit so I can see what Lindsay does with the scissors. read more

Love this place!!! Summer is wonderful! I went to see her to fix a bad haircut . The calming atmosphere of the salon is so relaxing. Summer took the time to ask what hairstyle I wanted and really listened. I was so surprised when she started off with a complimentary massage. It's wonderful and one of my favorite aspects of going to that salon. Not only did she fix the problem, she made my hair look better than it had before! A little more expensive than generic hair care shops, but honestly well worth the, rather small, extra cost. I've had two cuts with Chelsey and both of them were fantastic precision cuts, which is so amazing considering that I have naturally curly and chaotic hair. She is easily one of the best stylists I've ever had (and I've been to some wicked high-end salons in Boston and Paris, when I say one of the best, I mean BEST). Her warmth, adorable giggly laugh, big blue eyes and rose-gold curls are such the total package of someone fun to talk to and to watch work. The first cut I got from her looked amazing right out of bed the next day, and kept looking salon-fresh for months. MONTHS! It literally grew about 3 inches before I came looking for a fresh cut above the shoulder. She is communicative, asks questions, checks in, makes sure, says what she's going to do before doing it, and I trust her absolutely. I came in for my first hair cut at Lou & Co today. They were very accommodating, I called at 8:30 am and they were able to get me in at 9:00 am because I worked at 11. I was immediately welcomed at the door and offered something to drink. Jen was my stylist and I will definitely be returning to her. I had been growing my hair out for some time since I had it cut short-short over the summer. The back was at least 2 inches longer than the front. I explained to her that I wanted it to look more even and have some bangs and layers so everything looked more "on purpose" and not like I was just growing it out, and because I am a server I still wanted to be able to put it up. She did exactly what I asked. I was actually surprised that she didn't cut it shorter, I've had many experiences where I go in to a salon asking for a trim and I get 3 or 4 inches cut off all around my head. But she knew exactly what I wanted and did a great job. I love the cut she gave me so much that I might not try to grow it out any longer, she knew how to work with the shape of my face and the fact that I wear glasses. I loved the environment of the salon, very calm and relaxed. They use Aveda products so it smelled awesome. I also really appreciated that my stylist just circled the products she used on an Aveda sheet rather than trying to push the retail sales.
