Once I won I was directed to an address in downtown Kansas City that was on the most difficult-to-find street I have ever encountered. Even with Google Maps and Garmin I spent an extreme amount of time locating the Brown Button pick-up point. In the future I will certainly pay attention to the pick-up location. read more

If I had made this review a year ago it would be 5 stars. Since then, they have moved to online only and the experience has gone way downhill. Some of the pictures are very misleading for the size of items leading to you receiving a 3 inch tall cup when it was made to look full size. They also allow proxy bidding sites so if you find an item you like the price automatically rises as soon as you place your bid. It's sad to see one of my favorite weekend activities become what it has. read more

I've attended many estate sales across the area, and unfortunately, this company has now added a 3% surcharge to *every* purchase, which they say goes toward an employee fund. While supporting staff is important, this feels like an unnecessary and forced fee, especially when their item prices are already the highest compared to other estate sale companies. This surcharge is not optional, not clearly posted at the entrance, although it is posted on a flyer as you're checking out, and is not something I've encountered with any other company. It's frustrating to feel like I'm being charged extra for something that should be built into fair pricing or clearly communicated up front. Estate sales are about value and transparency. If this fee stays in place, I'll be shopping with other companies that don't add hidden charges on top of already premium prices. read more

Going to Estate Sales has been a weekly activity for me lately. I think I've been to three Brown Button sales and they've all had the same odd vibe. The focus seems to be mainly on selling heavy items moved by comically over-dressed employees that all have earpiece headsets. They seem committed to the aesthetic from looking at the photos on their website. I hope they'll be able to dress more weather-appropriate when summer comes around. Besides selling heavy items, the houses don't have much else going for them besides smelling like stale cigs and wacky tobaccy. Maybe they should raise their standards for which estates they work with, because their standards seem to be high for everything else. More style than substance. read more

This group is top notch. The staff is awesome in creating a clean, well organized sale. (No weird smelling old garage sales here!) I have purchased everything from a Restoration Hardware dinning room table and chairs (for a phenomenal steal of a price) to fun accent pieces. I have even scored some NWT designer clothes for fantastic prices. The thing that makes them really shine is the service of the staff. They quickly help to load heavy items -a green egg smoker/grill comes to mind. They will even run items to the check out area, so my hands aren't too full. WOW!!! I was going to leave a review for a restaurant and Brown Button popped into my mind. I was just thinking if anyone left a review for BB to see what they may have and read some of the reviews. Mostly positive and then some negative. Reading the negative I felt so appalled by the elementary comments that some have left that were so ignorant, However I have been going to Estate Sales for the last 20 years from Coast to Coast and can say that BB has something that I haven't seen ever in a lot of the Estate Sale Company's I've dealt with. BB has a recipe of business success that includes so many factors. From the very first BB sale I went to the owner Mike introduced his self to me, welcoming me to their first sale. The more sales I have attended I have had many interactions with their staff members learning their names and realizing they are hard workers. They have their work cut out for them once they take on an estate. Imagine if it was your estate. Imagine if your estate had minimal organization. The main part of the house looks great and organized but the basement and attic are the "just throw it in there and shut the door"! Think about what is entailed to bring those two areas to life and make it as pretty as the main areas of the home. Showcasing all the hidden treasures to sell or liquidate for the customer/client is the goal. Careful marketing and pricing to attract the customers that are going to attend and buy. We have seen items in the pictures that I want so I get there 2 hours in advance to be the first or one of the first in line to make a bee-line to the item to get it. Well guess what? There was someone ahead of me that wanted the same item and they got it. Bummer! If I might have arrived 15 minutes earlier I might have been the first person in line to get it. Things like this happen all the time. Nonetheless this isn't anyone's fault. I have reached for the same item as someone else was reaching for at the same time, They got it, I didn't. Things like this happen. So let's move on to the staff. A double-WOW!!! I am so impressed with everyone their that I know them by name because of the time they made for me and the conversations we have had. Drum roll Please!!!!! He was on the top floor by his self and everyone was asking him questions and some screaming at him because they were not being considerate and understanding while he was ringing up customers. He never missed a beat to his job, handled everyone that screamed at him and were interrupting him in the middle of a ring-up. Austin, Thank you for being the pro that you are. I can not say this much about some of the other company's out there. Some of the others just open the door without greeting them and giving direction for the sale, where everything is in the house, watching their step for step-downs or ups, price-tag process/Available-Sold, payment methods etc. Updating their pictures on EstateSales.net when featured items are sold. How would you like to go into someone's home and not even be greeted or even the same with a boutique. Wouldn't you say hello or good morning to a customer that walked into your home or store. Overall, this company does stand out. Yes there are other Estate Sale Company's out there that are good but BB has managed to create a perfected company in all areas that are important not just to the client but to the customer who is the buyer. BB and their teams job is to empty the house for the client. I would say they do a outstanding job. As for their Uniform, think about it, you as a customer if you have a question, you want to find a person that is affiliated with working the sale. Beware of price flipping (bait & switch). BB listed an item at one price (I took a photo of the item / the price originally listed in Sale Photos). Then when the sale opened BB had raised the price (2-1/2 times originally listed). Refused to "honor" the original quoted / listed price. Saying "they realize the value was the greater price. And that they had a clause stating they had the right to change prices". They have no right to change prices if they post it originally at one price. Bait & Switch. They offered me a $50 gift certificate for my inconvenience. Obviously realizing they had made a huge mistake. I don't want their gift certificate. All I want is an HONEST company to stand by the word. Sloppy Business. Not to operate on GREED. So BOGUS . read more

They go above and beyond: they do meticulous research to make sure their merchandise is accurately priced and their sales are the nicest to attend. There is always donuts and coffee for the "early birds" on line outside before the sale begins, a public bathroom, and plenty of sales help to answer questions and make checkout a quick process. BB runs some of the best Estate Sales in Kansas City. You can trust that they are selling clean items that are in good condition. I have been to other company's sales and sometimes was afraid to touch anything. Not here... They are the best in Kansas City, IMHO. I also like their business approach. Addicted! I found Brown Button by mistake when Jason and I first moved here. I was looking on Craig's List for some items for our new home-I happened across some items for sale at an estate sale. Low and behold it was Brown Buttons. Ever since...Brown Button has made quite a bit of money off me. I wish Jason and I wouldn't have bought such a big house, it allows me to buy more from BB! I consider BB to be the high end of estate sales. Most of their "houses" are in the Overland Park, Leawood, Olathe area. And they all have unique items ranging from antiques to signed art and high end clothes. You just never know what treasures you will find for yourself or loved ones. The sales USUALLY start on a Thursday with all items being full price. On Fridays items are 20% and on Saturdays the items at 50% off. Some items, depending on value, will not be 50% but will be negotiable. They take cash, check or card. They use ipads to ring the items up Some of the items we have found: -Antique chairs/china cabinets/furniture -Corvette memorabilia from the 70's -Signed Erte "American Series Statues" -Pools Tables -Designer Clothes -Antique jewelry ( Cameos) -Turquoise Jewelry -Signed Sports items -Couches -Dish sets -Refrigerators -Washer/Dryer - Vehicles -Lawn machines-mowers, weed eaters, snow blowers etc The list goes on and on....the BB team is AMAZING! They are certified appraisers and know their stuff. They will talk you through the process and explain the significance of the item you want to purchase. All items have tags on it, if you like a bigger ticket item you remove the tag and keep it with you. If the tag is removed from an item other buys are not supposed to be able to purchase it. The BB team will also load MOST of the items into your vehicle for you. Some items specifically state "will not load" things like pools tables for example. They post photos of sale items (via their website) prior to the sale, which is very helpful; also a detailed listing of sale items is provided. Staff are always friendly, helpful and professional. I don't know of any other company that will cheerfully help you load heavy items.
