I am a big fan of burgers, and given the oppertunity will have one for every meal. So of course when in Zermatt i got into the "brown cow". I have had the "stinky burger" with colslaw and fries. The burger was good and moist, and the toppings of onion, garlic and cheese were in decent amount giving an overall good and tasty burger. The fries was awesome - super crunchy and fresh. Overall - very good meal, good beer and good expirience and 2 points that would make my expirience a 5 and not a 4: 1. Bun was soft. Too soft and couldn't handle the extreme wetness of the burger and toppings 2. The colslaw boal seemed very healthy portion. Deeper digging revealed it is colslaw over a few leafs of lettuce. This place is awesome! One of my favorite places we'd eaten on our 7 day trip through Switzerland. The food was incredible and the vibe and look matched. I got the veggie burger and my husband got the grilled chicken sandwich. Both came with fries and a side salad. Even the side salad it came with was delicious. I loved my veggie burger and my husband raved about his chicken sandwich. We got there around noon so we were lucky to grab a table by the window as we ate and drank but later on the place looked mobbed so I'm glad we got in early when we did. Service wasn't great but they were very busy. Just had one beer. Food looked good. People were eating a lot of burgers. The bar was uncomfortable. I was craving something hearty and savory and boy did I find it at the Brown Cow Pub. You must come here if you're in Zermatt and craving for a burger. The Zermatter with an egg is absolutely amazing. The meat is so tasty topped with a fresh golden yolk egg is phenomenal. The burger is paired with a small cole slaw salad and fries (of course!). The Chicken Cordon Blue was amazing and I felt like I got a really good value relative to the crazy prices in Zermatt. They give you a side of fries and salad with the order which were both excellent. I ordered the full portion of the Chicken which comes as two separate pieces so I was able to save one of them for my dinner later that night. The chicken was both crispy and moist and the ham and cheese inside was also amazing. The guy sitting next to me ordered the burger which looked super juicy. Overall, I highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Zermatt. read more

Probably the best meal for the value that I found in Zermatt. It's not the most Swiss menu I've ever seen, but the food was good and the prices were decent (by Swiss standards). My chicken cordon blue was hot and not over-cooked, and the fries were clearly fresh too. I also appreciate that a bunch of the menu items have half-portions as an option, which is nice if you're not starving. Service was friendly, but like in most of Europe, it took a couple minutes to flag down our waitress for the bill. It started raining/snowing while walking in Zermatt when it was time to kill my hypoglycemia, and many other places were closed because May is the off season - so we checked it out. The Swiss burger and Mexican burger were both excellent. A major plus was crunchy fries! My sister and I each grabbed a Schneider Weisse as the draft list was quite limited. Our last meal here and we decided to try this place out. Impressed the burger was very good I had the Zermatter burger that came with bacon cheese and onions. I also got the firs and dad side. The salad is a must very different. The prices for drinks here are very reasonable for the area. I had a glass of wine for 4chf where another restaurant charged 8 for the same glass. Great for casual dining! This was our second trip here; the first time being last summer. The atmosphere is a very casual pub, which is tough to find in Zermatt. The menu is Hot Dogs and Burgers but don't be put off by that. I had the veggie burger with cheese and it was surprisingly good! The pomme frites were okay but not great. My hubs had an open face sandwich that was mushrooms, onions, and cheese. If you eat pork I'm sure it's better tasting if have it with the ham, otherwise it leaves a little to be desired. Overall 2 beers and 2 sandwiches for 52 CHF more inexpensive than anywhere else in town and much more casual. But don't think the food will be great. read more

Switzerland is not known to be a reasonable priced place. And Zermatt where you can only enter the town through train I would have thought all food venues would be over too expensive but this lovely pub had one of the most reasonably priced meals in entire Switzerland. Pub is darkly lit has tables high tops and lounge type area and can even sit outside and people watch. The burgers we all ordered different ones were delicious and large and all came with fries and side salad. Beer was flowing. The pub is located on the Main Street in Zermatt and connected to a hotel that has another restaurant and lounge areas that you can hop too after kicking back a few beers at this pub. Food was served late as compared to other locations even on off seasons as we went during shoulder season end of May. The staff were attentive and the place got poppin on weekends and even some weekday late nights. read more

Stinky burger with the onions and the gorgonzola cheese was my choice, while the chicken nuggets were not too shabby either. Stopped in here, based upon reviews. After 14 days in Europe, I was ready for a burger at decent prices. This place is slightly pricey, by American burger standards, but not excessive. Glad I went and you're not going to find any real value in Zermatt anyway. I had the burger and I must say, it was pretty darn good. Same with the french fries. Potatoes here are a bit more "buttery" and golden than the Idahoes I'm used to at home, but they are quite good. Hey, it's fun to try different things, right? One thing about Europe is their bread. Lot's of good fun, friendly people and good drinks at fair prices, considering it's right under the Matterhorn.
