So, when I say that Midtown Neurology and specifically NP Marissa Torres are my favorite medical professionals/office to visit I really really mean it. I've been coming to Midtown Neurology regularly since 2021 and every time I have to have a visit the experience is always pleasant and stress free. From the front desk to the medical assistant to my provider, Marissa Torres everyone is friendly, helpful and kind. They all go above and beyond to make me feel welcomed, heard and treated with kindness and respect. Marissa especially has been amazing. She is by far one of my favorite providers and that is saying a lot because I probably see about 10-15 different providers across specialties. From my first visit Marissa has been amazing. She listens and takes all my medical issues into account before coming up with a treatment plan and unlike some medical providers she has never made me feel unheard, dramatic or gaslighted me which I really appreciate as a woman with multiple health issues. I always leave my appointments with Marissa feeling hopeful about my health and confident in her treatment plan. I highly recommend Midtown Neurology and feel so lucky to have found such an awesome medical provider.

While the medical care has been adequate, neither the providers nor the staff have been particularly personable or welcoming. Over the years, I have consistently felt like just another number instead of a valued patient. The biggest issue occurred with my neurology appointment. In May, the office called to tell me that my health insurance was not active for my June appointment and that I would not be able to be seen. This made little sense because my June insurance premium had not even been due yet. I explained that my health insurance is on AutoPay and that my coverage would renew as it always does. I was told the office would verify the information and call me back. To the best of my recollection, I never received a follow up call. Because I had been told there was an issue with my insurance, I later called to reschedule my appointment. That is when I was informed that I would be charged a no show fee. The missed appointment was a direct result of the incorrect information provided by the office, not because I simply failed to show up. I escalated the issue and explained exactly what had happened, yet they still refused to waive the fee. It is incredibly frustrating to be penalized for an administrative error that was not my fault. If patients are expected to be accountable for their appointments, the practice should also be accountable when its staff provides incorrect information and fails to follow through on promised communication. After being a patient here for years, I expected better customer service, better communication, and a more compassionate approach from both the providers and the staff. Instead, I was left paying the price for the practice's mistake. Unfortunately, this experience has left me questioning whether this office truly values its patients.

But what I appreciate most about this doctor is that he is an excellent diagnostician. He's almost got a sixth sense about things. If something very odd is wrong with you that has baffled other doctors, Reid is a great person to go to for a second opinion. He's really good at getting to the bottom of strange conditions. He's also with Piedmont Physicians, a top-rate doctors and hospital group in Atlanta.

However, the front office staff and office policies have not been a good experience. I recently moved out of state and attempted to access my records via the patient portal and could not access them. Per an email request, I received a phone call saying I could complete a form for my new physician (I've already done this) and if I wanted my records I could PAY A FEE for them to be provided via CD. I have two overwhelming concerns: 1) I and/or my insurance company have paid through the nose for medical care for the past 8 years; and 2) who uses CDs anymore-- new computers don't come with a CD drive! What century are you in? Everything is cloud-based now and precisely why I should be able to access my records via the portal. As an example, I can access my Emory and Mayo Clinic records today (some are over 2 decades old and others over a decade old). This is a terrible business practice and nothing but a MONEY MAKER for this practice. I'm hugely disappointed in this nonsensical practice. And, I would also be concerned about a medical office SNAIL MAILING private, medical records. Isn't this a HIPAA privacy concern?

In January 2025 I made an appointment for the earliest new patient appointment, which was in June 2025. I decided to wait for the appointment because I really appreciated the philosophy found on the website and definitely liked the glowing reviews. I had positive interactions with all staff I encountered and the clinic was clean and bright. The provider I met with suspected a new problem/diagnosis and so started a work up with labs and imaging. Clinic staff did follow up with me once labs resulted out and referred me to a specialist. The ordered imaging was performed ~2 weeks after my new patient appt but I never received follow up, from the NP or anyone else at Ponce Primary Care re: the imaging results. It has now been ~3 months since my last communication, specific to my care, with anyone in this office. I decided to reach out to discuss the standard of care, which I felt to be lacking. Dr. Chad Costley did return my call within an hour or so and he did verbalize disappointment with my situation. He assured me that my experience is unfortunately the exception to their typical patient experience. I was informed that the NP I had been assigned to was "only part-time and here less than a month". I did not ever receive any communication from Ponce Primary Care to notify me that my assigned provider was departing or to invite me to call to schedule with another provider for seamless continuity of care. I was told that my imaging results were never sent by the imaging facility I went to and that "this is where the wheels came off". That is absolutely possible but it was also not confirmed to be true at the time of the statement. The report not being in the patient chart does not mean it was never received by the ordering office or sent to the ordering provider. Sometimes things get scanned and assigned incorrectly, or not scanned at all. Lots of possibilities there. To me, that shows a lack of accountability for not holding a supervisory review of a departing provider's caseload/EMR task list and it also fails to consider that an out-of-state fax number associated with the ordering provider could be the problem. I waited 6 months for a new patient appointment and, whatever the circumstances, was lost in the shuffle. I will not be continuing with this practice, although I'm sure they have many satisfied patients as evidenced by their overall rating. My advice if you wish to establish/continue care here: Be able to advocate for yourself and for your own healthcare. Be knowledgeable about when to follow up on your care in case the practice doesn't. If the wait is still 6 months out for a new patient appointment when you try to schedule, do not think an extra special or VIP experience awaits you - realize that they just might be too busy to accept new patients.
