A small cute gelato & coffee shop just outside and to the left of Las Gaviotas in Rosa Rito, Mx. The staff are welcoming. They were attentive and answered questions. Their gelato is made on site and carry about 20 flavors. They sell by the cup or you can buy a half lt. take away. The coffee was delicious! They made my wife a delicious latte and a mocha (with whip) for me. Did I mention they have a machine dedicated to making whipped cream! AMAZING! It was a touch on the sweet side for me but this would be perfect for most! Better a little sweet than bitter. There is seating inside and in an enclosed patio. Plenty of seating! They are closed on Monday & Tuesday. We were informed this is when they make the gelato. So gotta try the pistachio gelato! it's not bright green like some but perfect in flavor because it's made with real pistachios! So color a little bit darker and more natural! The stracciatella ( cream and chocolate chips) was perfect! They know what they are doing and so lucky we yelped and found this sweet little delicious stop while visiting Rosa Rito or staying at Las Gaviotas. Worth your time! read more

I visited this place last night with coworkers and I loved it. The gelato was pretty good, was told the owner traveled to Italy to learn... not sure how true this is but it's pretty good. The place is clean and so are the bathrooms. The gentleman that helped us spoke English quite well. The spot is not as visible or "nice" looking from the outside but it might be well known by Americans since I saw several last night. Strongly recommend. read more

I was introduced to Brown Dog Gelato by a neighbour. We just moved to the area, and in the last 2 weeks we've been 4 times! Their gelato, lattes and sticky buns are all so delicious, and the lovely people who work here make each visit a memorable experience for all the best reasons. They are all so warm and attentive, and the attention to detail is amazing! It's evident the people who work here love their jobs, and they spread the love Their latte is absolute perfection! I'm in the Baja visiting my cousin who lives in Rosarito. She told me about Brown Dog Gelato in glowing terms. She knows I love gelato but also that I'm consistently disappointed. During my "Chef Years," I cooked in Italy. I ate gelato wherever I could find it, including the "Gelato Capitol" of Bologna. So, I know all the hallmarks of true gelato. I must admit, I was expecting another disappointment; at the best, a good try and at the worst, nothing approximating the real deal. I chose pistachio, the quintessential gelato flavor and a personal favorite. As I watched the pleasant young lady scoop and form the gelato in the cup, I noticed that the consistency looked correct. So, the moment of truth had arrived. I have a ritual in eating gelato. I drag the spoon across the surface, which should reveal slight striations; lack of these means it's not a true gelato. To my surprise, there they were. My cousin laughed as I repeated my ritual three more times on mine, then took a swipe at hers. Same effect. Well, here goes--time for a taste. I closed my eyes and when it touched my tongue, I was in Italy. The flavor--knock-your-socks-off bold. Not the insipidly weak taste of most places' product; this was the true taste of pistachio. The texture--creamy and not one bit grainy, the sign of a superior product. Yep, this was indeed the real deal and every bit as good as any gelato I've had in Italy. Their price-point is about the same as in the States for regular ice cream but Brown Dog's product is heads and tails above anything I've tasted there. And the staff were smiling, courteous and helpful. Talking with them, it was obvious they were proud of their gelato; this was more than "just a job" to them. The gelato is creamy and all flavors seems tasty I tried total seven flavors including sorbet and finally chose two flavors which were Dark Chocolate and Hazelnut. Hit the jackpot The Bonita lady is very kind and gave good service when I was picking up the flavors. The inside has free WiFi and cute and clean eating place. Very spacious . They actually were sent to Italy to attend the Gelato University to learn how to make real Italian Gelato! First the cappuccino, the best with a side of biscotti, second every flavor of the gelato is delicious. I've tasted all of them. Today I tried the chocolate paleta. It was creamy not too sweet and the chocolate was of the highest quality. Finally the hot chocolate is so creamy and delicious, too. My daughter ordered one to go and stuck it in the fridge. She left and forgot it. So I opened it and decided to try it. It was like eating a fabulous pudding. Brown Dog Gelato just recently opened right next to Ollies Pizza (also a must try place). The exterior of the gelato place is so pretty. It's a pink color and it's so cute for the gram. As soon as you walk in the interior is even better they have it well decorated and I love all the art it had. They have a variety of gelatos with quality ingredients. Their gelatos don't have too much sugar and less fat. Their service was amazing! The employees were kind enough to let us try all of the flavors they have and I loved the flavor of all but my favorite was the ricotta & strawberry & mint flavor. This combination was great!
