**August 2026: Sunday Afternoon Visit** My friend and I were basically drenched in sweat and in dire need of something cold to cool us down. We'd both been to An's Dry Cleaning and thought this would be the perfect opportunity to check out their other spot in Ocean Beach: An's Electronics Repair. Parking is a bit of a challenge as you can either do street parking or get lucky with the spots right in front of the shops (we got lucky and saw someone leaving). We visited in mid-afternoon and were able to wait inside the AC'd shop while a few parties were ahead of us. The staff seemed to spend individual time with each customer, which made the whole experience feel really personal. When it was our turn, I was surprised that we were given a flight of gelato to sample. We started with a palate cleanser, then moved from "Satin," a golden kiwi sorbet, toward "Leather" and "Airplane Mode," which were both very chocolate forward flavors. Everything tasted great, but I ended up choosing "Bouquet of Flowers," a vanilla base with almond cake and house-made raspberry rosewater jam. It kind of tasted like wedding cake and I paired that with "Chintz," a dulce de leche flavor. The gelato itself was very creamy, and honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the flavors! Their sizing is a little confusing, but I went with a "megabyte" (regular) for $7.75. This is more of a grab-and-go type of shop, but there was one bench near the porch where my friend and I sat to enjoy the free AC. When we finished, we noticed the line had doubled and there were people waiting outside. They rotate their flavors every 3-4 weeks, so it's cool to see what they come up with each time. Walked by on Thursday night and there was a line out the door and down the block. It wasn't obvious what is was at first until we googled it! Came back yesterday to give it a try. You get to taste every flavor (I think there were seven flavors) and then choose what you want to order. I had the Leather...vanilla with cookies and browned butter in a cone. The parking here can be rough but we got lucky today & the line wasn't long at all, maybe took 15 min to get to the front. Love the concept of a flavor tour & love the explanation behind all the flavors. Jay was fantastic. Love the ambiance and how they have a bunch of vintage VHS tapes and other electronics. I love how every An's location has a unique theme and different decor. The ice cream was, of course, delicious and the workers are always super nice and friendly. There's a really cute seating area outside by the back of the restaurant where my friends and I enjoyed our sweet treats. There could be a line depending on what time you arrive but it's only because the workers guide you through a flavor tour of all their flavors of the week! I have never been to another ice cream shop that provides quite the same experience as this one. We went on a very busy Wednesday farmers market in the summer night. Yes the line was long but so worth it. To hear the staff tell you about An's and their favorite flavor and walk you thru every flavor, was a dream. And did I mention everything is gluten free?! An's never misses! I got to try all three Ube flavors and some new ones! Hard to choose but I finally settled on Gomazuri which has matcha, black sesame, & Paru tea and & Tubaw which has Ube & Saigon coffee! Portion sizes are pretty good and the unique flavor blends makes An's stand out from the other gelato and ice creams shops around SD. While you wait in line, it's fun to look at all the old electronics. I also like how they put the menu on small old TVs. Just like their other location, there is always a line, especially at dinner time or slightly after. I think what takes so long are the customers sampling each flavor. There were two parties ahead of me. This gave me time to look around. There are some window seats inside, and a lot of old electronics which adds to the ambiance. But it's warm and inviting. The young woman who helped me was so friendly. She was about to explain the flavors but I told her I already knew what I wanted. I got the Cypress, brownie batter and dark chocolate, and the Sagada, ube, toasted coconut and salted caramel. You really don't need to sample because it's not like they're going to serve ice cream that doesn't taste good. So I kinda skipped down the street, licking my magical cone of goodness! The flavors played well off each other. Ice cream makes the world a better place. As Cako and I walked toward the pier, I heard this woman say, "Let's go in here, it's yummy and cheaper..." Sure go into the basic ice cream store. An's is on a level all its own, and nothing compares. When I walked by them, they didn't look happy eating the basic ice cream....LOL! THAT's the difference! There's a reason this place is always on the list of the best ice cream spots in the United States - it's amazing! First of all, I love how they walk you through all the flavors (which are super inventive) and give you samples to try before picking out what you want. It really makes the whole event much more of an experience and I feel like other places should do the same. The employees were super passionate about the ice cream. This was a unique experience that I had never tried before. It felt like a tasting menu, but for gelato. We sampled all of their flavors, starting with the lighter ones and working our way up to the richer, more intense flavors. Some of the gelatos were incredibly creative and absolutely delicious. There were a few flavors that just weren't for me, though. For example, the chocolate raspberry had too much raspberry acidity, which overpowered the chocolate. The service was spectacular, everyone was friendly, patient, and happy to guide us through the tasting. The ambiance was also very creative. As a tourist in San Diego visiting for a conference, we frequently used ride shares around town. We had three drivers explain to us that for along time, they believed An's was a speakeasy because they would drop patrons at the electronic repair store or dry cleaning business and there was always a long out the door. This was one of our fun stops through the City. The top Ice Cream shop in America. The stop that we have seen all over TikTok and Instagram. Small batched ice cream, freshly made waffle cones, unique flavors that went above and beyond the call of duty. In an establishment themed so hip and full of vibes. Old electronics fill the room. A pachinko machine and wood paneling giving off a retro vibe. The back has quaint overflow seating that's missed by newbies. What sets this shop apart from others is the hospitality and knowledge of the staff on all the rotating flavors. Every flavor we tried was unique and had character. I went with the no signal- a molasses, date, butter pecan cake gelato. 2 heaping scoops in a fresh waffle cone for 9$. A great value considering we were briefed through the menu as if we were sampling a Michelin Star menu as the Addison just north of town. I completely understand why An's is one of the top rated gelato/ice cream stores in the country. I love everything about this business concept. It's creative, engaging and just exciting. We got to try every flavor and go on a tasting journey. They switch the flavors often so there's always something new to try. Every flavor is to die for and there's something for everybody. For customer service, I'd give it a 10 star! Julissa took care of us and took her time to explain all the flavors. We tried everything and the ambiance for the vibe of the store was also top notch, so nostalgic. I loved that all the flavors are shown on a traditional tube TV, and as a thrift hunter, this location gave me all the feels. As for ice cream, I would give it a 4 star. Creativity is amazing, but as a vanilla ice cream girl, this was way too fancy and almost too sweet. I liked everything I tried, but wish I could have paired one fancy with a plain ol vanilla. Slowly trying all of An's stores! This one was very well decorated and on-theme with the whole old electronics store concept. I felt the line at this An's location was shorter than the original dry cleaning or hatmakers in Del Mar even on a weekend afternoon. The staff at all of An's locations are always friendly and informative. Parking is on the street and difficulty is dependent on when you come. It's always an experience to go to any of the An's gelato locations, and this visit was no different! The gelato shop is super cute and decorated well, but parking can be a bit difficult to come by. As always, the staff at An's is super helpful and patient as they assist you through the gelato flight. The flavors when I came by were absolutely delicious. I ended up getting two after trying them all. I got the ao ba ba which was a passion fruit sorbet with vanilla and thai basil flavors. Super smooth and not icey like other sorbets I've had from other spots. The second flavor I ordered was a matcha flavor with hints of banana that I've unfortunately forgotten the name of. I was super excited to try An's, as I heard great things about the ice cream. The place is super cute and very uniquely designed. There was a ton of electronic devices decorating the walls. There was a line and it took a while, but it was a great experience so I would say it was worth it. I live in Northern California, but whenever I come to San Diego, I have to go to one of An's locations. This location in Ocean Beach is a block off of Newport Ave. and definitely worth the time, even if there is a long line. The flavors are amazing, the staff is helpful and friendly, and the decor is cool. Part of the wait is to allow everyone to taste test the entire menu of flavors before making their selection. It was a really cool shop. This is a small chain gelato shop. Whatever shop they buy, they theme the new gelato shop based off what the previous shop was. In this case, it was an electronics shop. It's so unique as they change the flavors of the gelato shop every week. They also displayed them on old retro TVs which made it fun. Everything custom made in house. The flavors were smooth, refreshing and flavorful. The fact that they give you a personal experience of trying all the flavors first and sharing a story of how it's made was the cherry on top. Very unique ice cream shop! We were looking for some good ice cream in San Diego and this shop popped up multiple times and it did not disappoint! We came around noon on a Sunday afternoon so there wasn't a wait or anything - and the worker gave us a tour of all of the flavors and wow they were all fresh and delicious. My boyfriend and I were craving a dessert when we came down to san diego, and we're so glad that we came across this spot. There was a little bit of a line (around 10 mins and we went around 7/8 PM on a Friday). The inside is decorated just like an electronics store! It was very interesting to look at the furniture while waiting. When it was finally our turn, we got a whole tour of all the flavors. They gave samples of each flavor and explained the ingredients. As someone with a nut allergy, their menu that day luckily had no nuts, but they informed me that they sometimes have flavors where it contains nuts (they use all the same appliances when making it so be wary about cross contamination). I got the Leather gelato/ice cream and my boyfriend got the Cottondoodle. They both absolutely AMAZING. Probably the best ice cream/gelato we've both have ever tried. The ingredients tasted extremely fresh and they had chunks of cookie in it that tasted delicious. It doesn't taste like they added any artificial sugars too. It's definitely not too sweet. Hands down *THE BEST* gelato I've ever had thus far! We went on a Saturday afternoon and surprisingly, there was only a short line outside the store. We still waited about 25 minutes before it was our turn, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. I honestly just spent my time admiring the unique setup they had once we were inside the store. Everything was so on theme! There were old electronics everywhere you look. They also had a collection of old televisions on top of the counter that also served as their menu. Of course we said yes when they asked if we wanted to do the flavor tour, as this was our first time ever at An's. I know you're basically just tasting every flavor they had available that day, but it was quite an experience. They even had a lemon ginger sorbet they offered at the beginning of the tour as a palate cleanser--to get your tastebuds ready to be blown away! After going through the tour, we decided on getting five flavors--Cypress, Léine, Leather, Velour, and Fascinator. Cypress (Midnight Brazilian cocoa) was my ultimate favorite. The closest thing I can think of to describe this flavor is a frozen dark chocolate brownie batter. It's the definition of decadent in gelato form in my opinion--so incredibly rich and thick and creamy and so chocolatey without being overly sweet. I could eat tubs of it and not ever get tired of it. Léine (Bailey's Irish Cream, cold brew & coffee ganache) was my runner up. I'm a huge coffee gal and this flavor just hit the spot for me. The Bailey's was more prominent than I expected, but you still get that coffee kick from the cold brew and swirls of coffee ganache here and there. The perfect flavor combination for a coffee enthusiast like me! Leather (brown butter & chocolate chip cookies) was a close runner up for me too. That brown butter was so luscious it almost tasted like toffee, and the chunk of chocolate chip cookies just made every bite that much more addictive. Certainly a winning flavor combination if you ask me! Velour (salted caramel & dark chocolate) reminded me of the Werther's caramel candy in gelato form. Surprisingly for being caramel flavored, it wasn't overly sweet. They balanced the flavor so well with a hint of salt and I love that some bites came with bits of dark chocolate. Fascinator, on the other hand, was like spring/summer in a cup. This strawberry sorbet was so refreshing, especially on a hot day. It's the perfect palate cleanser and contrast to their other creamy, lush flavors as well. And because they used so many fresh strawberries in making this, you can really taste that bright and fruity flavor from the very first bite. An's Gelato is without a doubt one of a kind and a must try. There's certainly a reason why they've been named the number one best ice cream/gelato in America by USA Today! I can't wait to go back and try their other flavors. I'm looking forward to visiting their other locations too! read more

What a hidden gem! AN's Electronics Shop may have an unusual name for an ice cream spot, but don't let that fool you--the ice cream here is incredible. The flavors were unique, creative, and unlike anything we've found at other shops. We tried the Joystick and Cornbread flavors, and both were absolutely fantastic. What surprised us most was that there was virtually no line, especially considering how good the ice cream was. This place deserves much more recognition. The service was friendly, welcoming, and fast, making the experience even better. I'd gladly make the drive out to Ocean Beach just to have this ice cream again. I love the concept of An's, but my experience at the ocean Beach location was not as exciting as at the original location. I've been wanting to try this location, but every time I've been in the area there's a line wrapped around the block to get in. When we walked by today, there was nobody in line, we seized our chance! So the concept is that they move into a space that was previously occupied by a local business. They start an gelato shop, but keep it on theme to the business that was previously there. So this An's is the electronics repair shop, all of the flavors are supposed to be named after various electronic things, etc. But only half of them were actually given electronics names, the other half seemed to have been sent over from the dry cleaning shop in the original North Park location. That's not necessarily a dealbreaker, but it just kind of takes away from the charm. And let's be honest, you pay a premium for this gelato. Not just because it's good but because of the concept and the charm. There was one other couple in front of us. The gentleman that was giving them the tour of flavors was very descriptive, I could kind of hear a little bit of what he was saying. A girl came out from the back and helped us. She was very friendly and had a great smile, but honestly seemed like she was kind of rushing us through the tour. I asked her questions based on what the guy was saying because she just wasn't giving us all that information. I heard him tell the other couple that there was one flavor that was on the menu every day, and that another flavor was a collaboration with a very well-known Cuban bakery down the street. After she rushed us through, we ended up buying 2 pints. In the cooler where you get the pints they actually had even more flavors from the dry cleaning shop. I'm just a little bit confused here. Overall, the gelato was very good, but I didn't think that what was currently in rotation was as good as when we went to the North Park location. This location just didn't live up to the hype for me. My favorite flavor is the mixmaster, but all of their flavors are very well crafted. An's is my favorite gelato shop in San Diego. This location tops the other An's in my opinion. I love the ambience because of all the electronics decor. I ordered 2 scoops foulard which has coconut, cream cheese, tropical jam, and graham cracker. The second flavor was 100% paper with orange , passion fruit and coconut gelato. Service is exceptional as your gelato scooper will walk you through sample tasting starting with palette cleanser which is already good sorbet on its own. Pick and choose which one is your favorite.
