Reading the previous reviews, it must have been a different crew that came to cut down multiple redwoods on my property. Specifically asked Spartacus (tree cutter for Brown's logging & Tree service) to be careful with tractors etc. driving on property due to the extensive grading for drainage on my property to alleviate septic field issues and providing a "swale" drainage to the side of the property. I wasn't home (at work) and stupidly left a check for them under my front door mat for payment. I normally go over a completed job before paying but they were insistent on payment on completion to my neighbor (we shared the expense of tree cutting). Trees were cut down, stumps grinded but they seemed to skip the clean-up part and ignored my request to carefully operate their equipment on the property. Bark, branches, their lunch wrappers, tools and other debris were left, and dirt was dug up in many places on the graded areas and in the drainage swale. It looked like they were spinning donuts on the property. I understand that they work quickly. Maybe too quickly. The equipment on my property must have been fun for them to race around on. My neighbor said they started at 9am and were done by 3pm. Maybe they could have stayed a little longer to clean up also. I have used quality tree services on my old property and in comparison, I would not use Brown's Logging & Tree Service again or even recommend them to anyone. I sent Spartacus a text message about the mess, damage to the graded drainage field, and the debris, garbage, and tools he left behind. No response back. read more

Two years ago after interviewing 5 Tree Service companies I settled on one that appeared to offer the best price and value for the money which involved felling approx 120 Tan Oaks for fire and safety mitigation. Job #1 Review: Several months ago, I called Brown's Logging and Tree Service and Noah returned my call promptly that evening. I needed work done right away, as my neighbor was selling his home and was still willing to split the cost of tree removal with me. There was a tall stand of Pepperwoods (California Laurel) on a shared property line with a power line running through the branches which hung directly over my neighbor's garage and the back of my shop. The base of the stand was only a shell in some places as the original old growth redwood stump had partially rotted away underneath. A few days later, Victor came down with a 60 foot single bucket boom truck. He had a two-man crew with him who arrived towing a 140 HP Bandit chipper with an 18 inch hopper. These guys worked like fiends and didn't require constant instruction. They were steps ahead, and when Victor kindly offered to prune my apple tree, they raked up the fallen fruit and all the debris without being asked to. Nice. I had decided to keep the Pepperwood log lengths for firewood and the guys rolled them into my backhoe bucket for multiple trips to the log deck. Much appreciated because some of the larger diameter green lengths are brutally heavy. Now that the Pepperwoods are down, when the sun hits the western slope of the canyon across the creek it lights up the skyline in a spectacular fashion. Should have done that tree work years ago. Job #2 Review: After the success of the Pepperwood job, I decided to limb and thin the stand of Redwoods behind my house to reduce the fire danger and improve the health of the seed trees. This time, Noah brought a skid steer with a rotating log grapple. Dang! I want one of those things! Turns out the grapple attachment alone is about $14,000. Uh, maybe I don't need one quite that badly. Victor brought down the 60 foot bucket truck again, this time towing a hellacious 24" capacity Morbark chipper. We had the same two "brush fiends" as Job #1, but this time, Noah added a tree climber/timber faller and a faller/equipment operator/on-site mechanic who is one talented motherjumper. It was a symphony of Stihl chainsaws. What a blast! I haven't had so much fun since the hogs ate my little brother. That was a joke, people. Calm down. Is the Brown's Logging and Tree Service heavy equipment all nice and shiny like some of the outfits in Santa Rosa? Nope. Do the employees wear spiffy uniforms that look like they could be park rangers for the State of California? Nope. These are hardworking people that are building a business. These guys saved my house during the "parade of storms"! I am so grateful to Noah, Johnny, and Justin for quickly removing a tall fir on an eroding bank above my home last Friday. A PGE contractor and a lineman supervisor both told me to leave for safety when a the roots of the tree became exposed in heavy rains. They would try to come back Saturday.
