He brought a skid steer to do some excavating/grading in the backyard which included filling in what looked like a crater in the backyard from a prior doughboy pool. I was most impressed with how thorough he was as there were a few times I thought he was done but he would say I'm going to work on that area a little more. Absolutely beautiful when he was done, the yard has a 4-5' difference in elevation and while it had a big crater and lots of swails throughout, it was just a natural clean smooth grade everywhere when he was done. Slaters Tree Service did a wonderful job for us. Dino came out and provided a very fair quote to remove multiple bamboo trees and cut a co-dominant branch off of a young redwood. The team came out on a very rainy day and swiftly removed all of the bamboo. A few weeks later they brought in a stump grinder and got to the roots as much as possible. If I could give Will Slater and his team 10 stars I would! We had a ginormous, 100+ year old, coastal live oak tree overhanging our roof from the neighbors' yard which we loved, but our insurance company hated. So, we hired Will and his team because a) Will was incredibly knowledgeable about our tree, b) walked through the job with me on the phone because I couldn't be on site, c) got me a truly reasonable and complete estimate the same day, and d) had a stellar attitude. Will and his team showed up on time, all the guys were amazing, polite, careful, respectful of property, and funny! It took all day to do the job and required climbing really freaking high into the canopy, using a cherry picker to get the outside branches, and then they cut the limbs into reasonable chunks (not free, people) to leave with the neighbor. Will was very clear about the maximum amount he would remove from the tree to ensure its health and longevity, which I respect and appreciate. The clean-up was pristine - it got dark so Will sent a crew over the next morning to finish up. Awesome. I cannot recommend Slaters Professional Tree Care highly enough. I searched the web and got several bids from different contractors with pricing all over the board. These guys came in with a competitively fair bid on the lower side of all oh f the bids, and already great reviews. I had been looking forward to meeting the owner Will whom I'd spoken with over the phone, but apparently he was under the weather and could not make it. But that did not stop his foreman Jesus and all the crew who were prompt for the appointment and did a timely, safe, and clean job removing a HUGE, dead coniferous standing at least 70 ft or more ( probably more) over my mom's house. They had to remove and replace several huge rocks in the process, plus remove large swaths of chipper sawdust from the property. All that was left amazingly, was a small spray of the sawdustdust afterwards. read more

Dino, Will and the guys did heavy pruning yesterday on 5 large old live oaks in my yard, as well as taking down a smaller dying oak. I have used them before, and always find them on time, well-coordinated as they work, cheerful, efficient and excellent in bringing out the beauty of the old trees while preserving the health of them. When they first arrived, I happened to show one of the guys a huge bamboo root clump I was trying to dig out and mentioned it would be great if they could find the time to help with it (I had it partially loosened but couldn't do the rest). I didn't mention it again, but when I walked around the property after they had left, six hours later, it was out! Was looking for someone to cut down my mom's cork tree. We found a couple other companies but they wanted a little too much or they didn't have insurance. I found Slater's Professional Tree care on yelp and decided to call him for an evaluation. He set up a time that worked for everyone and was very communicative, and never left us guessing what was happening. When him and his two workers showed up, they got right to work without hesitation. They were friendly and easy going and we had no doubt they knew what they were doing. While taking down the tree I noticed they worked great together to make sure things ran smoothly, such as being sure the tree limbs were secure before letting them glide to the ground by being tied to a rope and another guy on the bottom to receive the tree limb. Also the tree had apparently grown into our neighbors border fence, but they carefully made sure to still cut down the tree and not harm her fence. My mom and I were amazed at the wonderful work they did, and was able to do it all including clean up within an hour and half. If we need another tree cut down, we will be sure to contact them, and from my personal opinion, anyone who hires them for a job should be equally happy from the work they do. read more
