It was buttery, sweet, and crunchy. The cake itself was moist and sweet. I will be ordering a whole pizza crumb cake for my next holiday party. It will certainly be a hit! Gianna told me that there is a $5 minimum for debit/credit card payments. The bakery is in a small commercial space--holding no more than 10 customers at a time, but there is plenty of free parking in a huge lot in a relatively-large retail strip.

I was so enticed by the whimsical, atypical flavors and the bright saturated colors. I finally ordered the 5 pack and chose these flavors: 'Cotton Candy', 'Strawberry Crumb', 'Chocolate Banana', 'American Dreamsicle' and 'Italian Rainbow Cookie'. I loved the way each donut was wrapped in plastic and placed so intentionally in its packaging - a sleek gold-colored box with a sticker bearing her logo (a 'C' for Chana that doubles as a donut with purple frosting on it and sprinkles). My boyfriend and I did a "tasting" together trying small ¼ pieces of each flavor. The 'Cotton Candy' (pink frosting with swirls of blue) had a subtle cotton candy flavor but was very sweet, the 'Strawberry Crumb' (bright red) was tart, delicious and one of my favorites. The 'Rainbow Italian Cookie' (covered in tiny green, red & white sprinkles) tasted just like the real cookie; so enjoyable with a pronounced almond flavor. The 'American Deamsicle' (covered in blue, red & white round sprinkles) tasted like orange and was pretty good. My absolute favorite was the 'Chocolate Banana' (a striking yellow with brown swirls), which had a more tolerable sweetness than the others. Overall, I enjoyed the donuts: the taste, the uniqueness and the colors. My only feedback is that I would like the donuts less sweet, so it is easier to eat a whole donut. I would rate Chana's Donuts 3.8 out of 5 stars, and I would definitely order again to try new flavors, or to get the 'Chocolate Banana' or 'Strawberry Crumb' flavors again :)

It had a delicious graham cracker base that was right up my alley. This location is small so realistically you want to take your cookies to go, but if you do decide to stay they had 2 tables. I appreciated that you could also buy a glass of milk for your cookies and that the cookies are served warm. The employee helping us was very sweet and helpful. The cookies were definitely on the expensive side but one cookie is 4 servings so it is understandable they charge more since the cookies are definitely huge.

You see…read moreI completely forgot to write this place up back in July and after visiting them only a few days ago (for a different reason), I realized a review needed to be penned. A four star compilation with mostly positive things to say. Let's get baking. Well, that summer trip actually involved breakfast. My wife and I trekked over to Centerport (on her birthday actually), for a quaint breakfast inside this small bake shop. The menu and its enticing Insta pics really brought us here and so we got both coffee and a morning meal. That aforementioned menu is quite vast and with so much to choose from, we decided to split "The Famished Breakfast" which included all kinds of tasty options (eggs, bacon, pancakes, fried cheese, tostones, and more). To nitpick, some items listed and some that we got weren't exactly the same, but to also be fair, everything was delicious. Equally delicious might be their variety of savory pies. They have so many to choose from, but you have to either call ahead or be lucky with what they have. Two made their way home with us (the piggy mac and the chopped cheese) which were consumed shortly after our visit with both being dense and rich, but definitely tasty. Not as equally delicious might be their coffee. Yeah, I think I've turned into a bit of a snob as these days I'm looking for legitimacy in the coffee itself and not just some pretty pics and cool flavors. Though Hometown has quite a variety of options, I'd say that if you're looking for some strong coffee, this wouldn't be the spot. If you're looking for some great breakfast and crullers, well... And therein lies our most recent trip: crullers. Hometown doles out a plethora of cruller options, but only on Sundays. Get there early (like pre-opening by 15-20 minutes at least) to be sure you snag whichever flavors they're going to have (check Instagram). Knowing we were going to share with a bunch of other people, we chose a dozen to try, but heed my words, these things are gargantuan! Also, they won't last long in preserving so if you have any leftovers, don't expect them to be good past the day you bought them. But in the moment while they're fresh, you'll be in cruller heaven after one bite (especially if you try the death by chocolate one). Overall, hometown Bakeshop is a legitimate place for everything they concoct in an oven (throw in stovetop too). Yeah perhaps their coffee sounds better than it tastes, but that might just be me wanting something a little more coffee forward. Beyond that discrepancy, I'd gladly return to Hometown for breakfast, pies, crullers, or who knows what else? Come and get some!

Super moist cake (unlike the dry ones from the generic supermarket) and it was sooo beautiful. I've always wanted a cake like this for my birthday and what better way to get what you want than ordering it yourself! While her cakes are absolutely delicious, the ordering process is unnecessarily difficult. Customers are not allowed to discuss orders in person or over the phone, which ultimately led to a mistake with my cake design. I genuinely wanted to give her business another chance because the cakes are excellent, but the way emails are handled and responded to has made that difficult. Customer service is a big part of the overall experience, and unfortunately, the communication alone makes me hesitant to spend my money there again. A more accessible and customer-friendly process would go a long way in preventing misunderstandings and improving the overall experience.
