Mighty Peace Brewing - Beer flight. Their gold lager is a best seller and is real good.

Ok so I respect that Steve had a bad experience, but my experience was much better. There were…read morepeople sitting outside and a group sitting inside. I opted for the latter bc it was too windy. I got a flight of beers and the bartender was professional and friendly. She said she's a teacher and that she has to bartend to make ends meet. Naw I'm kidding about the last part of that sentence. But she's a teacher. The beers were pretty solid as I recall. At one point, she had to go change a keg, and so when an outside customer came in, I felt compelled to say "she went in the back to change a keg." We can't leave our customers in the dark now can we? When I was ready to leave, two local yahoos came in and started sampling all the beers. It was some real insight to me as to what makes a real Canadian. I'd have preferred if bartender/schoolmarm had asked me if I wanted to close out, but i got to witness two good ole boys in action for a solid 5-10 minutes as they sampled beer and finally ordered (and received) two growlers of FSJ's finest.

Called ahead. Recorded message thanked me for calling, then said goodbye. I took a chance, walking…read more1.7 miles from where I was staying. Door was open. About a dozen people. Bartender said it was a private party and, despite nobody sitting at bar, was told to leave. No exceptions. I owned a brewery. I understand private party revenue. But I would have figured something out to keep every customer happy. At a minimum I would have had the phone message and social media updated to say the night was private.

Overheard conversation between three twenty-something guys at Casey's Sunday morning…read more Guy 1: Dude, you have to try this Caesar!!! Guy 2: You know clam juice makes me puke and vodka makes me crazy!!! Guy3: Dude, all we're asking is you try one!! Guy 2: One leads to two. Two leads to three and after three you're not going to like me anymore!!! Brings back fond memories of lost weekends and sound advice not followed all courtesy of Casey's. The pub hasn't aged a lot since it's opening. In fact the usual suspects can be found any given weekend, filling the same seats they've occupied since the late eighties. Some things have changed, the awesome HO scale train that raced by on tracks overhead is gone. Some things have stayed the same, the wait staff is still friendly and funny and not afraid to stop and chat with the patrons. My server, a local, born and raised here, relished the fact most of her clientele went to school with her parents and some of her former school mates who frequent the pub haven't aged that well. She recommended a sleeve of Belgian moon draft with brunch. A smooth beer, heavy on citrus, which I probably would avoid except at breakfast where it makes perfect sense. I tried the avocado toast. A soft poached egg on brioche with tomato and mashed avocado. It really lacked any kind of flavor or texture, as did the fruit plate that accompanied it. However food and drink is reasonably priced here and I do enjoy the free conversation.

The prices were fairly reasonable, some things better than others, the main steak dishes seemed a little out there but the rest was on point. Nothing particularly memorable in either direction. Occasionally, particularly on Fridays, there can be a bit of a wait for a table. Unfortunately, the seating area for those waiting is quite small. They will however take your number and offer to text you when your table is ready. Food is good. I have never been disappointed except for the occasional time where a small mistake may have been made in the kitchen. Fortunately, it is always rectified promptly and properly. If you like burgers, I recommend the Kona. Atmosphere. Probably one of my favourite atmospheres for dining in Fort St John. The music is great, not too loud, and the decor and lighting is great. Bathrooms are a bit small, but it adds to the charm for me personally. Probably because I've spent a lot of time in the city. Overall, if you're looking for consistency across all levels, I would recommend Original Joe's.

I was in Fort St John for work and stopped here one night for dinner…read more Really disappointed with the Roustabout salad. The menu said it was to include "artisan lettuce, shaved fennel, sun-dried tomatoes, caramelized pecans and dried cranberries" however it only came with spring mix lettuce and dried cranberries. For a $9 salad, this was really disappointing. I also had the seafood chowder which was really tasty. It came with plenty of seafood including haddock, scallops shrimp and a side of toasted garlic bread. Service was decent and there was a TV in the restaurant area with the game on which was a bonus.

Roustabouts is haunted by the ghosts of restaurants past. Originally opened in the 70's as…read more Beefeaters, a popular steakhouse catering to mainly business types. Liquor flowed, deals were sealed and anyone unfortunate enough to be wearing a tie had it clipped off and displayed on the trophy wall. The restaurant changed hands until it was renovated and rebranded as part of the Fogg N Suds franchise, renowned for its impressive line up of international beers, fishbowls of cocktails and awe inspiring draft beer towers. The crowds were usually young, loud and very enthusiastic. Under new ownership and a management change Roustabouts opened. Emphasis was placed more on family dining and quality food. I've had more than a few memorable meals here with friends. So I was quite surprised at the mediocre quality of my last few visits. I ordered my old standby favorite, pulled pork. Not at all the tender, saucy, melt in your mouth, drip down your chin experience I remember. The pork was chewy and dry. As were the little cup of mushrooms offered as a $2 side, advertised as sautéed but had obviously not been introduced to a lick of butter. The gravy was another disappointment. I can't eat naked fries, if you're going to charge extra for gravy make it from beef drippings and flour. However the service was friendly and the Keith's amber ale was frosty and delicious!
