Had the one pound pie(chicken pot pie) outstanding. They need to turn down the music a touch so people can talk. I will be back again.

Guy 2: You know clam juice makes me puke and vodka makes me crazy!!! Guy3: Dude, all we're asking is you try one!! Guy 2: One leads to two. Two leads to three and after three you're not going to like me anymore!!! Brings back fond memories of lost weekends and sound advice not followed all courtesy of Casey's. The pub hasn't aged a lot since it's opening. In fact the usual suspects can be found any given weekend, filling the same seats they've occupied since the late eighties. Some things have changed, the awesome HO scale train that raced by on tracks overhead is gone. Some things have stayed the same, the wait staff is still friendly and funny and not afraid to stop and chat with the patrons. My server, a local, born and raised here, relished the fact most of her clientele went to school with her parents and some of her former school mates who frequent the pub haven't aged that well. She recommended a sleeve of Belgian moon draft with brunch. A smooth beer, heavy on citrus, which I probably would avoid except at breakfast where it makes perfect sense. I tried the avocado toast. A soft poached egg on brioche with tomato and mashed avocado. It really lacked any kind of flavor or texture, as did the fruit plate that accompanied it. However food and drink is reasonably priced here and I do enjoy the free conversation.

I'm going to be frank - we wouldn't come for the food because everything we ordered was pretty bad…read more That said, we sat outside on a beautiful night enjoying the patio and service was ok. If I was judging purely on food though, I'd give it a 1 star at most. We'd never been here, so we asked our server for recommendations on an appetizer. She admitted she was pretty new, but lots of people ordered the pork shumai ($14). I should have trusted my gut that this would not be anything like a shumai. They came out in a steamer with 5 dumplings inside and a tart ginger-y dipping sauce. The wonton wrapper bottom didn't even attempt to stick to the filling - it fell off the minute you touched it, and it was so oversteamed it basically disintegrated into a soft mess. The filling itself was a very dry pork meatball. Nothing at all like a moist shumai filling should be. Flavour was weird, texture was weird and we didn't finish it. I ordered the small ribs ($18) because it came with cornbread and coleslaw, and those are some of my favourite things. I also got to choose a side, and I chose onion rings. The ribs are listed on the menu as coming in a feature BBQ sauce that changes weekly. I unfortunately was there on the "weird tomato sauce that was basically a sweet marinara moreso than a BBQ sauce" week. It was a thick layer ladled onto the ribs that I scraped off. The ribs themselves were dry and super fatty. I was also mad that the cornbread was placed right in the middle of the sauce, so the one side got super soggy as it soaked it up. Also flavourless and and dry. Coleslaw was fine, and the onion rings were hot, crispy and sprinkled with a heavy shake of salt. My guest ordered honey garlic wings ($13) and for an extra $6, added two sides to make it a meal. She chose fries and sweet potato fries (don't potato-shame) and a side of gravy. The wings were small, dry and overcooked. Definitely not moist. Fries x2 were soft and felt undercooked. Overall, very meh food. We didn't enjoy our meals in the least. Our server was new, so we didn't hold it against her when she asked how it was and she basically shrugged after our feedback. We liked their wine selection, and sitting on the patio was lovely with a view of the water.

Complete with working hay loft and fiddle contests this dive bar was crucial in my formative years as a budding alcoholic. The building was purchased in 1999, found structurally lacking, torn down and replaced with this pub which has become a community favorite ever since. The bar featured daily gastropub quality food and cocktail specials as well as Wednesday night karaoke, popular with both the sober and soused patrons. The original owners/managers retired last year leaving the pub vacant for several months. The new owners reopened without the original kitchen and wait staff and the experience wasn't quite the same. I slowly stopped going here. Flash forward to yesterday, imagine my pleasure in finding the special board featuring two of my all time Dundee favorites. Root beer paralyzers and ham and lentil soup. The paralyzers were unqualified in quality and three of them quickly evaporated on my tongue. The soup though flavorful and savory must have been simmering for a long time as all the vegetables had turned to mush. All the other specials were extravagantly priced (seafood linguine at $24) seems a bit much. I did have a pleasant chat with the young lady waiting the tables. I learned the pub features local musicians of various genres, including a recent performance by the talented duo "Twin Peaks". These two are destined for greatness, a must see if you get a chance. Check out Jackfishes facebook page for upcoming acts and dates. Meantime drop by, say hi and try one of these paralyzers, or maybe two.

The menu said it was to include "artisan lettuce, shaved fennel, sun-dried tomatoes, caramelized pecans and dried cranberries" however it only came with spring mix lettuce and dried cranberries. For a $9 salad, this was really disappointing. I also had the seafood chowder which was really tasty. It came with plenty of seafood including haddock, scallops shrimp and a side of toasted garlic bread. Service was decent and there was a TV in the restaurant area with the game on which was a bonus.

Liquor flowed, deals were sealed and anyone unfortunate enough to be wearing a tie had it clipped off and displayed on the trophy wall. The restaurant changed hands until it was renovated and rebranded as part of the Fogg N Suds franchise, renowned for its impressive line up of international beers, fishbowls of cocktails and awe inspiring draft beer towers. The crowds were usually young, loud and very enthusiastic. Under new ownership and a management change Roustabouts opened. Emphasis was placed more on family dining and quality food. I've had more than a few memorable meals here with friends. So I was quite surprised at the mediocre quality of my last few visits. I ordered my old standby favorite, pulled pork. Not at all the tender, saucy, melt in your mouth, drip down your chin experience I remember. The pork was chewy and dry. As were the little cup of mushrooms offered as a $2 side, advertised as sautéed but had obviously not been introduced to a lick of butter. The gravy was another disappointment. I can't eat naked fries, if you're going to charge extra for gravy make it from beef drippings and flour. However the service was friendly and the Keith's amber ale was frosty and delicious!
