I was in Fort St John for work and stopped here one night for dinner. Really disappointed with the Roustabout salad. The menu said it was to include "artisan lettuce, shaved fennel, sun-dried tomatoes, caramelized pecans and dried cranberries" however it only came with spring mix lettuce and dried cranberries. For a $9 salad, this was really disappointing. I also had the seafood chowder which was really tasty. It came with plenty of seafood including haddock, scallops shrimp and a side of toasted garlic bread. Service was decent and there was a TV in the restaurant area with the game on which was a bonus. read more

Roustabouts is haunted by the ghosts of restaurants past. Originally opened in the 70's as Beefeaters, a popular steakhouse catering to mainly business types. Liquor flowed, deals were sealed and anyone unfortunate enough to be wearing a tie had it clipped off and displayed on the trophy wall. The restaurant changed hands until it was renovated and rebranded as part of the Fogg N Suds franchise, renowned for its impressive line up of international beers, fishbowls of cocktails and awe inspiring draft beer towers. The crowds were usually young, loud and very enthusiastic. Under new ownership and a management change Roustabouts opened. Emphasis was placed more on family dining and quality food. I've had more than a few memorable meals here with friends. So I was quite surprised at the mediocre quality of my last few visits. I ordered my old standby favorite, pulled pork. Not at all the tender, saucy, melt in your mouth, drip down your chin experience I remember. The pork was chewy and dry. As were the little cup of mushrooms offered as a $2 side, advertised as sautéed but had obviously not been introduced to a lick of butter. The gravy was another disappointment. I can't eat naked fries, if you're going to charge extra for gravy make it from beef drippings and flour. However the service was friendly and the Keith's amber ale was frosty and delicious! read more

I had the seafood wok meal for dinner I believe. The some of the vegetables were undercooked by a lot. Then in the morning I woke up with an intense nausea, upset stomach, and finally vomited up what was left in my stomach. I'd say I was mildly sick from their food. Not sure if it's an ingredient I disagree with or bad food. I don't have any food allergies that I know of. I would not want to risk this again. This nausea will be fun for my 10 hr drive. Cross my fingers I don't need an emergent bathroom. read more

All the Yelpers agree: the service at Roustabout's is S-L-O-W and my experience only adds another voice to that chorus. It's not that they don't care, they just seem unorganized and the front of the house can't communicate. My food was very average. If I had it to try over, I would opt for the Stuffed Yorkshire Puddings. But Pulled Pork was the special of the day. Truth in Advertising: I hold an extremely high bar when it comes to BBQ and I should have known better. Very weak, bland and I'm guessing it wasn't homemade. Given the proximity to a big motel. I'm guessing this is not a locals spot and they do a brisk business with the transient workers that seem to be in Fort St. John. You can do better. Try someplace else. read more

Typical Fort St John service, as Eva stated, but my food was wonderful. Sometimes takes them a while to realize someone is waiting at the front foyer 'waiting to be seated'. I always order the stuffed yorkshire pudding which is nothing less than wicked! Shave prime rib stuffed into three HUGE yorkshire puddings, with a gorgeous horseradish demi, absolutely divine! The horseradish is not overpowering, so don't worry. I would avoid the calamari as it is of the frozen pre-fab variety. The pulled pork poutine is also a good choice. If someone here could do the impossible in this city and provide decent service, this would be one of the top 2 places to eat here. Did I mention the stuffed yorkshire pudding? read more

The taxi driver recommended this spot for my dinner one evening, and since it was a short walk away from my hotel, I decided to give it a try. Upon entering, it's fairly pleasant and I was greeted by a young lady for a table. This restaurant surprised me as most you see have a restaurant and lounge side with a bar. In this case it was all in one large room with a bar at the front. The atmosphere was okay but the restaurant is very loud and sound carries easily. The food that was coming out looked great and there was a petite girl that was running food bigger than she was. Impressive. I was greeted and had a drink from my waitress in good time. I decided on the half chicken. The main courses come with 2 sides so I decided on a starch-based redundancy by getting mashed potatoes and a baked potato. The presentation was nice, but unfortunately the skin was soggy and had no crispiness to it. The chicken meat was pretty decent and not dry and the barbecue sauce that came with it was pretty good. The service was good with no complaints on that end. Overall, an average place for a decent meal, but nothing too special. read more

Not bad at all for Fort St. John. Food is good at the small town level. It works to fill you up. Nothing fancy if comparing to the big cities. But great for FSJ. I liked the steamed garlic wine mussels (surprisingly good for an inland town), borscht soup (daily special), pulled pork sandwich and prime rib dinner (Tuesday special). Yorkshire pudding is ok, just a bun actually. But useful to sop up the au jus. Pastas are a bit bland. You add your own seasoning. Curry bowls are average. read more

Roustabout's used to be our "go-to" restaurant in Fort St. John for a casual lunch or dinner with friends or family where you know you're not going to break the bank. Lately however....like, within the last month or so...my favorite dish, the Beef Dip with Au Jus, has gone WAAAAAAAAY downhill. It used to come with thinly sliced/shaved beef on a garlic roll. It was delicious. Now however, the meat comes almost chopped, quite finely, and doused/dripping in gravy. It's reminiscent of wet/canned cat food. Not an appetizing image, I know. I did complain and was told that they had switched suppliers and that the chef was worried the meat was too dry. In the words of my step-daughter though...."that's why you have Au Jus". PLEASE go back to your normal Beef Dip. I'm a creature of habit and pretty much order the same thing everytime we visit. To know that my favorite dish is no longer a favorite, pretty much ensures that you'll lose a customer, as i'll go elsewhere. That said...we DO also love the wings, especially with the Raspberry Chipotle sauce. Mondays are "wing night" at Roustabouts and we often go to hang out and have wings. If you feel like having a cocktail with your wings, or dinner...I would suggest the Peach Bellini. It is HUGE and it is absolutely delicious. Slushy and full of strong peach flavor. My favorite drink, for sure. Jackfish used to make the best Peace Bellini in town, in my opinion, but since their change in ownership/management, that award definitely goes to Roustabout's (who truly was always a really CLOSE second, anyways!). If your server is a chipper, bubbly blonde named Jolene, you're in for a treat. She is absolutely the highlight of any visit to Roustabouts. The atmosphere is comfortable and intimate, perfect for family dinner, hanging with friends, or a date night. Roustabout's does a LOT right. They just really need to fix the inconsistency in their menu that has only happened very recently, and they will once again be a favorite hangout. :) read more

Been here twice recently once for a girls night (after having to leave another restaurant due to no service at all) and once for family dining. I have to say both times were awesome! The food was all on point and it was so much more pleasant that all the loud sports bar type restaurants in town! Maybe a bit slow on the food recieveing side but not as bad as ive seen. read more

In town for a fitness show. I needed something very specific, a 5oz grilled sirloin no seasoning. I called twice to confirm. Both people said yes it can be done. I got there a few hours later and was told no the steaks are all prepared ahead of time and they can't fill my request. If you're in Fort St. John for a visit, this would be one of the better places to go for dinner. I appreciate that it's not just another chain--it has a bit of local charm, in terms of food, decor, and service. Note: by three stars I actually mean this is good! Terrible service, but typical of Fort St John. I like the food, probably best sit down restaurant in town, but man the service is so so bad. Slow, ignoring you, complete lack of serving skills or procedures. But we get used to it living here, these people would be working at Tim Horton's if they weren't working here. When I got to Roustabout's I thought that this place looked similar to an earl's or a Moxies restaurant. The decor is nice and the staff were friendly. The problem was the food.... my experience was pretty bad. I got the avocado chicken wrap and the whole thing was cold. It was like they just pulled it out of the fridge and stuck it on my plate. For all I know the chicken could have been cooked days before! Gordon Ramsey would not approve of this practice and neither do I. If I ever go back here again I'll probably just get a salad. read more

I think you need to put the experience in perspective. It depends if you are traveling the Alaska Hwy north to south or vice versa. We are nearing the end of a traverse from the north in late September. OMG this place was great after a week of bread and deep-fried anything (except the galactic cluster cinnamon buns) and bad beer. I've given up on the beer (but will keep looking) but don't expect things to improve until we get to WA. Had the mussels with garlic, spare ribs, and the beet salad and Singapore wok.
