We purchased multiple items from Brown's Orchard and Farmstand yesterday and the people there were very friendly and helpful. We bought bags of apples, multiple pumpkins and a pie. I was able to sample their apple cider and it was very good. I meant to purchase a gallon of that as well but forgot. It was tasty and flavorful without being too sweet. We made pumpkin seeds from the pumpkins last night and they were very good. Even though the pumpkins weren't that large, they had lots of seeds! We also had some apples and they were crisp and juicy. I made the pie as well. The gentleman told us that the pie came cooked and ready to eat, but the crust was a little white for us and we prefer warm pie anyway, so I put it in the oven for about 20 minutes and served it up. The pie and the crust were both good and I definitely would have given browns five stars, had I not literally almost choked on a piece of plastic in my pie. (See photo) It got caught in the back of my throat and I had to pull it out with my finger. I was unable to finish my piece because of that experience, but no one else had any issue and everyone enjoyed the pie. I understand accidents happen but it was unfortunate. I would still return for for fruits and vegetables and maybe to get that cider I forgot, but I probably wouldn't buy another pie from them. read more

I asked if the donuts were fresh and the woman said yes. When we opened the bag at home the donuts were far from fresh and very stale. The whoopie pie was also disappointingly stale. We won't be back. read more

This place has the most amazing fresh apple cider. No preservatives, and very healthy.! Also, we highly recommend the fresh baked apple cider donuts. They're sort of like a soft churro and are amazing! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. This place is a mess stop if you're in the area! read more

I purchased an Apple pie here and although it looked delicious, it was a disappointment considering it seemed to have very few pieces of apple inside and it was mostly sugar and pectin filler. A huge disappointment. I wouldn't recommend the pies here unless you want to pay $15 for an empty crust! read more

I've tried a lot of cider from orchards all around New England; this is the best. The apples are crisp all through the year, thanks to the storage process the orchard has. If you go to the Rutland Farmers' Market any Saturday, summer or winter, you will be greeted by some of the nicest folks in Vermont. All great reasons to buy local! read more

Stopped here on the way to Lake Bomaseen. We needed some corn for dinner. We asked the guy behind the counter when the corn was picked and he said that morning. It was the sweetest corn he said. Well.... it was chewy and starchy and just awful. 2 weeks later we stopped by again and told the woman our experience. She said it must have been a certain type of corn but this corn was the best ever! Wrong! Even worse. We will never ever go back. read more

Went to their farmstand on Saturday and watched their dog put his whole snout into a bag of apples and take one out and walk away. Will not go there again as I wonder what else has the dog sniffed or licked or such. Not a good thing to let the dog have the run of the place. read more

I have had a few bad experiences, but way too many as of now. I went in to see what berries that they had and when I asked the owner, who was too busy chatting with another customer who had already paid and are obviously friends, if they had any black raspberries, she replied " Do you see them?" I said no and she replied "Then we don't have them." She continued chatting away while I was on line . I waited for close to five minutes, she then said about me " I think this guy in getting a little impatient". I tried to keep my composure and subtlety. She rang me up while still talking to the previous customer and told me the total which was a little over five dollars, I was not paying attention, as I purchased more than five dollars worth of goods, but I think she meant around nine dollars. When she gave my the change from a ten, I mentioned that she did say it was 5.35. She replied about how the prices obviously would not come to that. I apologized that I wasn't paying attention, but she claimed she said 9.35, which would make more sense, but she did not apologize as she clearly was not paying attention, chatting with friends.
