We stumbled upon this orchard bakery on our way home from our VT trip. A selection of fresh baked pies and turnovers to choose from. We selected the Strawberry-Rhubarb pie and apple, blueberry, raspberry and lemon turnovers. Pie crust was light and flaky and packed full of fruit. Pie stayed together nicely when sliced and served. Fruit was natural and not overly sweetened. Pie would have been perfect with just a touch of lime zest/juice and maybe a spoonful more of sugar. The turnovers were tasty. The apple ones were pouches with a half apple in each. We've never seen one prepared like that. Prices were very reasonable in this small farmstand store. The woman behind the counter was kind and happy to help us. I was so excited when she handed the pie over and it was still warm! read more

For our meet and greet for our wedding weekend, we ordered several boxes of these and drove 3 hours round trip to pick them up. The guests loved them. Whoa! What a pleasant surprise this place was. It is very unobtrusive, a few miles from Pico and Killington. There is a motel and a small store where one can get SOME OF THE BEST BAKED GOODS IN THE AREA. We got the raspberry pie and the apple turnovers and were really, really impressed. This place rocks. Stayed here in March of 06 while doing genealogy in Rutland County. The rates are very reasonable, they allow dogs with no additional charge, it is close to skiing and restaurants, and in the morning they make the all time best apple turnover things I have ever had. The motel is a collection of small buildings, most duplexes, in the middle of a working orchard.It is not posh. I have heard apple blossom time is gorgeous, I can imagine it is. I would take walks with my dog through the orchard, she loved the ability to run around and smell and I like talking to the workers. read more

Great rate and quintessential Vermont. Don't expect some 5-star NY high-rise hotel; this is an orchard motel by every definition. Which means, of course, the famous apple turnovers! We took 6 total, we were NOT to leave hungry, and were offered more still--as many as we could carry. I don't know if that's the normal routine, but as we were the last to checkout, all the gifts were bestowed. The attached store is cute, ever so simple. The whole property was iced over due to the looming mud season, but you can see how positively beautiful it must be in the spring, summer, and fall. Now, I was tempted to give 5-stars, but our room wasn't ready at 2, though we had been told it would be ready at noon. This was an issue as we had an event to attend at 4, so we were cutting things a bit close. No one likes to feel rushed, especially in Vermont. Some of the details from other reviews are true, too, meaning the linens suffer some signs of age, along with a few other blemishes. However, for the rate, location, kindness, and what we received in comparison to other sleep-ins, MMO&M is a solid 4 stars. If the simple things in life make you happy, you'll do just fine by staying here. read more

We stopped in to by Maple Syrup since we were staying in the area. I visited here during the winter, but I imagine it looks beautiful in the spring and summer. The little shop is a cute little country store and you can bring your empty syrup bottles and refill them here. I even found maple syrup lip balm and it reminds me of Vermont! read more

We were passing through Mendon early on a cold Autumn Saturday morning when this idyllic little orchard store caught our eye. We stopped in for some hot cider and Vermont syrup. The gentleman working was extremely kind and helpful and the sweet, social cat was a plus. A must visit for if you are in the area. read more

They make a variety of delicious pies every morning (their complimentary breakfast of homemade apple turnover is pretty scrumptous. The rates are fantastic. A very tidy, reasonably-priced motel. It's not a five-star hotel, it's a family-owned and operated motel in rural Vermont that exists on a working apple orchard. If you want friendly, real people, this is the place. The motel room was very modest and comfortable - two beds in our room, both were comfortable. Simple accommodations including fresh towels, a refrigerator, TV (no cable - we don't watch TV but maybe you do!) and an A/C in cooler months. Would not recommend Mendon Mountain Orchards. My family went there on September 29th to pick apples. I purchased 2 bags at $15.00 per bag to make my applesauce. I ended up throwing away over half a bag due to bugs. When I pick apples, I always pick them from the tree and make sure there are no marks on them. I keep them in a cool spot when I get home. As I was cutting up the apples there were like tunnels in the center of the apples and they went towards the outside of the apples. I cut away all the tunnels and some apples were so bad that I had to throw them away. When I called the orchard they said why did you pick apples that had brown/black marks on them. When I told them that I only take apples from the trees with no marks on them. All they said was sorry and hung up. read more

I went to Mendon Mountain Orchards in Mendon that my great grandma built with her daughter.My whole family was with me.We were treated very nicely by the staff when we walked in. They greeted us with a nice welcome and waited for us to look around for stuff that we are going to buy. My first impression was like this place looks nice because it has handmade stuff like hats, and yarn bags. They also make pies, sell eggs and make turnovers. When I went there with my family we loved the place because the had nice hats and delicious pies and turnovers and we were welcomed very nicely and they waited for us to get are stuff and then we took a walk down the orchard road past the apple trees and then turned around and they walked to see the pigs, sheep, and chickens. We bought an apple pie and a pumpkin pie and they were delicious and we want to go back for more. When we were buying stuff they people were very nice to us while we were checking stuff out. You should go to Mendon Mountain orchards because they are very kind and they let you take your time to get your stuff and open for questions. You should go in September because they let you go down the road to the apple trees and let you pick your own apples. Also the pies are amazing. read more

Great stay! Great place! We stayed at the Ranch House, The Charles family are a great family ,very welcoming n hospital-able. The welcoming apple pie -baked at their store was DELICIOUS as well as their fresh eggs , chicken, Pork sausages and apple butter spread were all sooo good! The house and property was clean, safe, fully equipped with all necessities and very spacious for us 6. My kids loved playing with the free roaming chickens and their shepherd dogs Sky and Wonder. The pigs and sheep were cool too. The pigs loved our belly/ear rubs!...They will be missed! The orchard is so peaceful and quiet, we loved walking around the open fields both day and night. THE STARS! The stars were AMAZING!... so many & so bright! We were able to do so much and so little at the same time. Both fun and relaxing. They even let us put up a hammock in the front of the house and build a makeshift fire pit in the back. We left the supplies for the pit on the property for others to enjoy. (Just lay/stack the bricks, place the grill bottom on top, collect sticks on the property & light it up!) Best place to go ,ESCAPE from it all and have all you need right on the property or 10 minutes away from all food and shops!....BEAUTIFUL LAND! I had high hopes for this place based on a few of the reviews, but I have to give this a '1' rating as one of the worst places I have ever stayed. After hiking all over the property looking for #2, I found I was given the key to #1 so I had to hike back to the office and get a proper key. Upon reaching #2, I saw a sign on the door: "Our most fervent request is a non-smoking guest". Great, because we are non-smokers. But on opening the door I discovered that they didn't get their request. This place 'Reeked' with a capital R. It wasn't just a trace of smoke smell, it reeked and we smelled it all night and our clothes smelled of smoke even after we left the motel. People must have been smoking there for the last 50 years! I stopped counting at 26 the number of cigarette burns in the small night table next to the bed. There were burn marks on the rug as well. (please, place some ashtrays in the room before someone burns the place down!) They would have to completely strip the room and rugs in order to clear the smoke smell. The bathroom sink hung at an angle that prevented placing any items on it including a the soap. The bed sagged to the middle like all old mattresses do but that was a minor issue. The steps outside had a large gaping crack in them that makes you think it might give way at any moment. A sign in the office said that wi-fi and cable TV were only available for rooms nearest the office. Despite having made my reservations two months prior, we had neither wi-fi nor TV. I went to the 'store' the next morning to partake of the famous turn-over and have a cup of coffee but there was no one in the store so I had neither. The turn-overs looked really good but I guess I'll never find out how good. We won't be back. read more

I was so delighted to find Mendon Mt. Orchard a few years ago. It is a quaint family run motel with all the hospitality you would expect to find down south. Stayed here for a week looking at a prospective job and started to feel like part of the family by the end of my time there. The place is in a beautiful setting, friendly on the wallet, and very convenient to everything in the area. Definitely not the typical, monotonous seen-one-seen-em-all lodging.
