For whatever reason, hiring a photographer is usually delegated to the groom. Such was the case for my wedding and I was determined to not mess it up. Since we are getting married at Convict Lake, I wanted a photographer to capture the natural beauty of a place. Minaret does so, but they were expensive and booked for the weekend of our wedding. Several hours of navigating the murky waters of the internet later, and I was brought to Bruce's page. His photographs were just what we wanted and he seemed like a pretty cool guy so I emailed him asking for his availability. A couple hours later, he confirmed that he was available. We talked about our backgrounds, added each other on social media and became well acquainted. But then Bruce did something that truly warmed my heart. He realized that since I am fresh out of grad school, I am in mucho debt. He saw that while we still wanted to have a beautiful wedding, we also have to cut corners because of our budget.He saw all this and offered a discount up-front. No negotiation. No hassle. Just pure good-ness. It was a breath of fresh air in our increasingly capitalistic society and revitalized our wedding planning. From then on it was just one great thing after another. Free engagement shoot. Included Photobooth. Funny emails. Dogtogropher. etc. We just had our engagement shoot with him and he edited 200+ photos in 2 days. 2 DAYS! I have had photographers take 20 days for 20 photos. Insane. During the shoot, he was so funny, friendly, and kept us all at ease. He made my ugly mug look like Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It was less than 10 degrees and in the middle of a blizzard during the shoot, yet he still burrowed in the snow like a photographic snow-lizard to get the best shot of us. He even brought along his beautiful ice-princess of a daughter to keep us laughing during the shoot. I am excited to see what he has in store for our wedding day. My partner and I decided at the end of October that we wanted to take our engagement photos during the fall color bloom in Bishop. With the clock counting down the last of the golden leaves, we reached out to Bruce on Yelp and received a response in less than 24 hours. Within a few minutes, we had a session booked. Our time with Bruce was memorable on its own, but the days leading up to our appointment demonstrated his professionalism and generosity. My partner and I had historically only camped in the Eastern Sierras, so we were unfamiliar with indoor lodging. Bruce recommended a hotel for us and even some activities to do the day before we were scheduled to meet. When we finally got to meet Bruce, he had literally just arrived back in town from a destination wedding the day before. We felt so lucky that he made time to for us out-of-towners when he could have easily declined. The entire session was a blast and well worth the 4-hour drive back home. Bruce was very kind and encouraging during the session, which meant so much to me as a person who is more than a little camera-shy. He shared with us stories about his family and the Bishop community, and drove us to various locations with increasingly stunning views. He even brought along his trusty companion Berkie for the end of the trip and let him make a few cameos in our photos. The end product of our session far exceeded any expectations we could have imagined. Not only was the turnaround time on the pictures superhuman, but the images themselves looked like something from another planet. All the forces of nature were working with us that day, especially during the killer sunset which Bruce captured so perfectly. If you want my short answer for why I'm taking my time to review Bruce Wiley & his photography is because it's hard to wow me, yet I'm joyfuly speachless with his photographic masterpieces of us! My fiancé & I have never had professional Photogrophy done before, yet we know we couldn't ask for better! We literally were going crazy looking for photographers, since we had less than 2 months till the wedding! Yet we still couldn't decide, because all the photographers photos looked like fluke shots, with a mix of bad photos that they posted, it's sad to say & see that there is a lot of poser / terrible un-artistic photographers out there! Look no further!! Bruce is the best photographer we could have imagined. We wanted to have a family (9 of us) snow shoot and I contacted Bruce along with a few other Yelp photogs. Bruce was the only one who responded quickly and his price quote was beyond affordable. But with 9 crazy family members and only a few days around the New Year to get it done I began to wonder if it would happen. Bruce texted me back every time I changed the plan and was completely unfazed. He's so flexible and accommodating. And then we had our shoot! If you want a thoughtful, generous skilled photographer who will enhance your special day by listening to your interests and responding with great ideas tailored to you, Bruce is your guy. Everything about our elopement was wonderful and Bruce played a huge role in making it special. From our first communication with Bruce, he was so helpful with his thoughtful replies to our questions and ideas. He got a great read on us in terms of our personalities, interests and preferences and gave us wonderful and generous options. Ultimately Bruce drove all the way up to Bridgeport from Bishop to meet us outside the historic courthouse there for pictures of the ceremony with the Mono County judge presiding. Then, the next day we met Bruce at Minaret Summit near Mammoth for a photo shoot with an amazing backdrop - one of his suggestions when we told him about our wonderful time backpacking near the Minarets and Mt. Ritter and Banner Peak the previous summer. At both the ceremony and the later photo shoot (where we hiked a half mile and changed into our wedding clothes at a great spot away from the crowds at the main viewpoint - another really smart idea from Bruce) he took wonderful shots and helped make our entire event so much fun. And I can't over-emphasize how generous and helpful Bruce was with the logistics of our entire trip to the Eastern Sierras, including our backpacking honeymoon through Evolution Valley. Bruce sent all the great photos very quickly so we could share them with family and friends. And we're super excited to see the book he is going to make for us. He even invited us to send a few pictures from our honeymoon backpacking trip to include in the book, another very generous offer. He really captured the "true us" and all of the emotions and fun that came along with our engagement and wedding.
