I met my family here for dinner one night and was very satisfied with the whole experience! While it may look a little, uh, shady from the street, the inside decor is absolutely fantastic! It offers a full bar, numerous TVs to watch various sports, and plenty of tables to enjoy dinner. I opted for the filet. While it wasn't the best cut of filet I've ever had, it tasted great and I finished it with pleasure. The service was excellent and the prices are very reasonable. We'll be back!! read more

Great place for cold beers and great food. Never been there and had bad service Always get great service, ice cold beer or great drinks. The burgers are big and fresh. The steaks are cooked just right and the sides are fresh and delicious. Lots of TVs for sports viewing and nice clean bathrooms. The service was lacking (and that's being nice about it) they neglected to mention that most of the menu was unavailable until my family and I started to order, they were slow, once checked on us once on top of making us wait a horribly long time just to get our food, and on top of all of that there was a hair in my wife mashed potato's don't waste your money here!! Not sure of the negative reviews but we found this place to be pretty darn good. Our server Kammi was very friendly and did a great job. We got there for their happy hour that is from 4 to 6 all appetizers are one half off and the pints of beer are only 2.50. We had the Bruffs dust hot wings and the hot sauce wings. Talking about great flavor we didn't make it with no breading I had the BA burger which was amazing had a great charcoal taste to it. The wife had the club sandwich what she described as tasty. Make sure if you're in the area definitely stop by this place. read more

Total Fail!! the Margarita's just aren't good - sent the first one back thinking it was just a mistake, second one was marginally better. The two steaks were both overcooked - A lot! Bruffs is fine. Had the club sandwich with steak fries and the steak fries were not good but the waitress was very nice about replacing them with fresh hot krinkle fries. The club sandwich was ok. Honestly with limited choices in Emporia this is 3 stars but on KC it would be 2. read more

Back in the college days, Bruffs was a weekend spot. Then the location caught fire and our spot was gone. It was a sad day for Hornets. Gary rebuilt on the other side of town and introduced a pretty broad menu. For many years, it has been the place to go in Emporia for a good bar food meal and grab a drink with friends when we all came back to visit family. It seems like in the last few years the food has gone down in quality on some trips but the next time it is ok. I guess it all depends on the staff. We will never stop going to Bruffs but now that Emporia has more options we tend to go there less. It has plenty of space if you are a big group and one is able to hold conversations with the people around your table. I would suggest people give it a shot but know that quality really depends on time of day and staff. read more

Good old fashioned sports pub right off the highway !! Most memorable was the iced tea!! It was served in a HUGE glass and it was so good I had two:) the service was super nice. Lots of options-lots of fried food but everything my table ordered to share that was fried was pretty good and not greasy. I had a salad with chicken and it was great. Don't come to a sports bar and grill in the middle of kansas and think you're going to have fantastic calamari and anything resembling a traditional healthy meal. plenty of mash potatoes and gravy if that's what you want. Do come expecting good solid beef. While the beer selection basically went as far as boulevard, they did have stout, wheat and pale ale on tap and that works for me. the place looks like a warehouse from outside but once inside, there's a bevy of sports apparel lining the walls, a beer bear (wtf?) welcoming you at the entrance and plenty of TVs. Loses a star because the appetizers were not up to par. would get a 4 otherwise. the burger i had was quality. crappy breaded shrimp. the bourbon wings were intriguing but i was hoping they would be more smoky sweet...instead of just sweet. read more

Don't be fooled by the positive reviews. We stopped while driving thru Emporia on our way to KC. This place is more of a bar with food as a afterthought. Had steak salad, chicken caesar salad and chicken sandwich. Our order was incorrect as we asked for no cheese on sandwich and for sweet potato fries. So irritating to spend $34 for subpar food. read more

Service was horrible. Seated and waited forever to get someone to come to my table. There were plenty of staff and it wasn't busy. The waiter didn't write my order down and got it wrong. I ordered the wings traditional and he brought out boneless. When I said he got my order wrong he said I told him boneless. I never order boneless wings. I would not recommend this place. Poppyseed and carabi dressing. Still craving it. I was pretty skeptical about going to this newer version of Bruffs after the original 6th Street location burnt down, but I was impressed! Great food for a decent price with tvs everywhere. Kim was craving their chicken fingers and swears by them; I had grilled chicken with Swiss and mushrooms, mashed potatoes, roll, and salad for $9.99. Sweet! Pros: excellent food, HUGE portions, decent price Cons: poor service, long wait time for food The food was super yummy and there is a LOT given. Our table was missing condiments and could not flag down our server so finally stole some from another table. The top on the ketchup came off and ketchup went everywhere (I can't take my husband anywhere without a mess). Even with ketchup dripping down the wall and all over both of us we still couldn't get a server. Finally had to go to the bar to get a rag, even after 2 servers walked RIGHT by us and saw our predicament. Had another server help us more than our server did so we tipped her as we were leaving. If you can get a good server it would be an awesome place to eat! read more

Not to many options here in Emporia. Briggs has fried cheese, fried mushrooms , fried zucchini , fried onions, chicken fried steak....you get my drift. I had the large ribeye. Ordered it medium rare and it arrived medium well. I never send back food so I used the many steak sauses available on the table (a bad sign?) to enjoy best I could. The baked potato was good but the butter wasn't butter, but a whipped something in a sealed cup. Scotch was good and beer was cold. Enjoy Bruffs for a burger and beer but manage your expectations. read more

I walked out after 10 minutes when my waitress never returned after initial drink service... long waits are one thing, but all the other waitresses were looking at me, passing me by, making eye contact, and never saying a word or getting my waitress even when I motioned to them. I asked to talk to the manager, who seemed equally young and clueless as the waitresses, so I left at that point. (She wasn't even certain that she was the manager - if she were a little more "in charge", perhaps I would have stayed.) Not worth it... just pass by Emporia or eat at Applebee's. read more

Let's start with the bad...my salad was the worst in the history of salads. The crap pieces of lettuce with a tomato piece. Where's the cucumber? Onion? Croutons? Anything?? The lettuce was white. How tasty could it be with white iceberg lettuce? I ordered chicken fried steak. For frozen out of a box it was good. But it was so obvious that there was no homemade to it. The mashed potatoes were worse. Instant potatoes in a round little scoop. We got fried pickles to begin with and boy were they salty! Now for the good...my husband's ribeye steak was really good. He gave me a bite and it had an excellent flavor. For a restaurant steak was top notch. The place was busy, so people must like to eat here. The menu was really too boring and generic for my taste. Standard food only. But if I do happen to come again I will order a steak or a hamburger. They looked really good too. We happened in late evening on a summer weeknight. They were certainly staffed to match that timeframe, which slowed the service down a little when several families all walked in at once. When we did have the attention of our perky little college kid wait staff, though, they were attentive and cordial. The food is exactly what you expect-- pretty decent bar food. No complaints; just nothing to write home about. Seeing as they are one of the few places open after 8:00 (especially mid-week during summer when the college is out), I'm sure we'll be back when we're in town. read more

There are plenty of TVs. The cost of my dinner and appetizer was $30. The Kansas City steak was good. Not the best I ever tasted, but good. The NY strips are awesome & juicy ! The teriyaki boneless wings are awesome. The turtle cheesecake is amazing !!

We ordered steaks with mashed potatoes, green beans and a side salad. My salad was okay, but I've had a better salad from a bag at walmart. My steak was cooked correctly, I shared with my mother and she wanted a ribeye and I hate fat on my steak, so I knew I wouldn't like it, but my mother liked hers and my husband liked his. I had mashed potatoes that were instant from a box. They were horrible. The green beans were from a can with some bacon bits on them. The saving grace was the roll. It's expenive and I can get a better steak with more "real" mashed potatoes and green beans at Applebee's. read more

Nice place to enjoy the games and friends. But, the food was just blah....I had the blueger, a blue cheese burger. BUT the burger was so damn dry, like a dehydrated disc. The blue cheese was just a bunch of crumbles you put on yourself. Definitely more bar than restaurant. Burgers are always over cooked, fries never crisp, salad full of iceberg cores, appetizers straight off the Schwan's truck. But the beer is cold and plenty of televisions to watch the game. Want cold tap beer, this is your place. Want cold original brews go to Mulready's. First time here. I'm sure won't be my last. They have an excellent selection on the menu at reasonable prices. Service was good and courteous. Had to chuckle at the waiter. I know he had to try. I put down a hundred for a $67 bill and he asked if I wanted change! Uh, yes. I don't normally tip 50%. Lol. He did well at our table anyway. My dad brought me here for his high school reunion of sorts. Near death, and hard of hearing those codgers gave that poor waitress a run for her money. But she got everything right and was totally professional the whole time. Food was good, salads fresh, and the meat cooked the way everyone wanted. The price was reasonable.
