IN 1 LINE: A night of artistic learning and fun! VENUE: The first thing I noticed was how big this art studio is, which allows for more than one class to run at the same time. My class was held in the back studio which made it feel like a private party. It even had an area with ice and glasses (wine and beer glasses) and a counter top to set up the desserts we brought.  *My family and friends were there to celebrate my birthday, and my mother said that all of the staff were very accommodating in hiding my ice-cream cake. :) Our instructor also gave many breaks and opportunities to eat and celebrate. I really enjoyed the music that played during the class too which created a casual and relaxing night. TEACHER: We loved our art instructor, Justine, who has the patience of a saint! She made the class fun and reassured all of us that we would all be able to complete the selected painting of the night. She was encouraging and lended her gentle guidance and expertise. We never once felt rushed, as each of us took our time to paint. She led us step by step, teaching techniques along the way. Thank you for a great night! read more

I took my mom to the "paint your pet" night as a surprise/early Mother's day gift. We had SUCH a blast. It was my mom & my first time doing a paint n sip and I can safely say it won't be the last. The staff was really easy going (as was our instructor). I think the idea of paint your pet night is so genius. They draw the outline of your pet for you before you get there and coach you through the whole process. Every single painting that came from that room looked so beautiful. I was so impressed! The ONLY critique I have is that our particular session was in the back room (I'm assuming for privacy), but honestly it's a little tight back there and slightly uncomfortable. I wish we could've been in the main room or they could've situated us all in the room a little better--we were all stuck on one table and there was an empty table on the other side of the room. When the instructor needed to help someone, the person next to the one getting help has to get up. Just food for thought. :) read more

I came here last night with my bf to celebrate our 2 years together. I spoke to Julie before coming to the class and she was so helpful and sweet. She answered all my questions and was great to speak to. I couldn't ask for a better date night when we arrived to class. Laurie was our teacher and she was great and a pleasure to have host us. My wife and I took our young adult kids to Pant & Sip the other night, and it was a great time. Relaxed atmosphere. Artist running the session was Rob who was really nice and helpful. Beginner and experienced artists will enjoy it as Rob demonstrated the piece we would all paint a step at a time using TV screens (phone camera over his easel streaming) that was east to see wherever someone sat. He was helpful, giving tips at all levels of painting experience. Very patient and upbeat. The vibe in room is no pressure and laid back. Music in background was upbeat pop, older music, not fast, which I liked. It is bring your own wine/drink if you want and the other patrons attending were non-judgmental. Everything you need is provided, including apron. Recommend wearing something where you can roll up your sleeves above your elbow as you work with paint. If you want a fun, creative 2 1/2 hr experience, this is for you. recommended. read more

This is so much fun. You don't need to be an artist or know how to paint. At first I was scared but excited too. Then as the instructor for the night, Amanda, explained every single little step, I started to feel relaxed, plus the wine helped too. They have helpers going around to assist you. They also have screens displaying every thing the instructor is doing. The instructor was AMAZING. The was encouraging and went a good pace. Just got back from a friend's work-sponsored paint night and I had to review this place. I've only been to 1 other paint night and, I have to say, this place is top of the line. The studio is divided into 2 sections so 2 classes can simultaneously take place. The classes are a bit smaller so it provides more one-on-one attention and the instructor is able to project to the class via monitor (which makes no spot, a bad spot in the class room - I've found this to be a huge pain point in the other paint night I've been to). There was also music playing in the background which really made for a nice ambiance. A couple of additional highlights: 1) Our teacher, Amanda, was awesome. She was patient and made painting fun (which is the most important part)! Amanda's step-by-step tutorial on the painting was easy to understand and comprehensive. She also threw in useful tips and tricks along the way and assisted us in "fixing" our paintings if we went astray. 2) Service was excellent. I had accidentally left my purse at the studio after finishing our paint night. I left around 10:40pm and the studio closes at 11PM. I immediately called at 11:02pm and Warren (I think his name is) picked up the phone and asked how far away I was. I told him I was only 20 minutes away and he was more than happy to stay and wait for me at the front of the studio since he "knows how much I would need my purse tomorrow". I mean, come on! What a nice guy. Especially since they open at 2pm the next day, it would've been difficult to go anywhere without my purse/wallet. Fantastic event and fantastic service; great ambiance, highly recommended. If you're planning a birthday party, company gathering, date-night or friends night out, definitely book here. Couldn't have been more happy with my experience. read more

Went last night with a friend and painted Blue Moon. We had a blast! It's so true that they all come out looking great. Can't wait to go back again. I had never been to a paint and sip class before last night and I really enjoyed the experience. My cousin and I went together and had a lot of fun, esp with the Hogwarts plus Starry Night theme! I don't think either of us were too impressed with our own painting skills, but they did come out somewhat resembling the original. I will say the seating was a little snug and the room was packed, which was fun but also a bit distracting. The instructor was easy to follow when she painted, but sometimes she explained how to do a detail a few seconds too late. But for the most part she was pretty clear and easy to follow. It was also nice that another employee would come help you out if there was something you were stuck on. I would definitely go back again for a fun night out. read more

Uptown Art in Denville is awesome! I just attended the $25 Tuesday night with my mom and sister and we had a blast! I'll absolutely be returning. The staff is fun and helpful, and amazingly patient when it comes to instructing their wine-imbibing students =) everything you need to create a work of art is included - paint, canvas, tools, and apron, even bottle openers and glasses for the drinks! It's a FABULOUS deal on $25 Tuesday, and still a great bang for your buck on the full priced nights too. All in all it is a fairly perfect way to spend an evening in the Denville area! But they book up, so make sure to book in advance. read more

I attended a painting class with my aunt and we were both very disappointed. Our instructor, Jess, started out well and seemed nice. But she would move quickly through sections of her instruction and then say we would take a break. During the breaks, she did not interact with the students- instead she sat and chatted with a coworker at the front desk. She never came over to my aunt and I once to see how our paintings were coming along. My aunt was very frustrated during the class- she is not used to painting. The only other staff member circulating just told us to remember to paint the sides of our canvas. The encouragement and enthusiasm was totally missing. Do not take a painting class at Uptown Art if you care about quality. read more

I wouldn't know what the business itself is like, considering I was never able to enter the door. I had a private party set up a specific appointment, we all drove for 45 minutes to get there, and no one showed up. We spent almost an hour sitting in the parking lot trying to get a hold of someone, and when they finally did us the courtesy of calling back, we heard nothing but excuses and poorly thought-out lies. She even had the audacity to speak to us with a defensive attitude and imply that it was our fault for showing up at our scheduled appointment, instead of hers for failing to attend the appointment and failing to contacting us about the supposed cancellation. We were very civil on the phone, but I'm sure you can imagine how infuriating the situation was. Needless to say, we will not be taking our business here ever again, nor will any of the 20-plus potential customers we were planning to bring to our next party. We prepaid, scheduled, and attended this appointment, and we were ignored until we were met with poor, clearly false excuses. If I could give this business no stars at all, I definitely would. read more
