I brought the majority of my business wardrobe (roughly 30 items) to Impressions upon getting a new job, and had several issues. The first time I got my items back, they had a VERY strong mildew odor. I brought them back, and spoke to a local manager who said bring them back for a comp-ed re-do. He said they had a machinery malfunction and water was poured into the machine when it should not have been and that he personally cleaned it out himself and now things would be fine. I told him it was a time sensitive problem because of this new job, I was going on a business trip, so I needed them back quickly. He told me it would only be a couple of days. Upon picking up my clothes again, they still had the mildew smell. I called the manager again, and he said to bring them back for a refund, and to call him when I got back into the store. Not 15 minutes later, I was back in the store, but now the manager was mysteriously unreachable. I spoke to the owner of the franchises (who sits in Richmond Hill) and he said that refunds were not an option in his business. He said the only option was to have the clothes cleaned again. I told him about my business trip as well, and that I literally did not have the available days to allow the clothes to be cleaned and that I do not trust them with my clothing. He told me I had no other options. He was not willing to give me a partial refund (the bill was $92.90) and the manager said that he could not issue a refund either. I spoke to the manager again, and he said because the bill was so large, he only thought it was a few items, that a refund was not allowable. I said to him, "so you're telling me you just ruined 30 items of dry cleaning [side note, total value of the items is over $3000] and that you have no option for me." The donation port was overfilled. My conclusion is that the store is overcharging for donations to sell them for inappropriate profit margin. I also think it is possible that some donations are actually stolen goods being dumped in an attempt to wash the evidence away. Some coming from shared rooms, some coming from people that gain access to property not belonging to them, some coming from ill means acquired storage units, and previous tenants, etcetera.
