Over the years Dr Krey has removed wisdom teeth for my family members, and cared for a stubborn canine for my then 11 year old. Dr. Krey is overall one of the best doctors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Among his strengths, he has a calming demeanor, is knowledgeable, and has a way of explaining procedures simply. During my recent procedure, he kept me updated each step of the way which helped to keep me calm and feel that he did not just see me as "molar number 3". So rare to find a doctor that addresses not just the issue, but also the human! Note that this office has staff with these same qualities! After 27 years, my root canal tooth decided to give up. Upon seeing I was nervous, the very kind assistant Miya assured me and said, "It's okay, sometimes we outlive our teeth." What a beautiful way to phrase it! I believe her name was Claire, at the front desk, was very efficient with gathering foundational paperwork. Joseph worked on my insurance and also took the time to assure me that all was well. There is another gentleman, tall, black glasses that I have encountered in the past that took exceptional care of my 2 younger family members during and after their procedures, gave after care instructions and answered all questions. When one of the staff called me hours later after my procedure to ask about how I was doing, I was almost teary. Overall, this is the best office to never have to visit that often, and will take care of you not just as a patient, but also has a human. Bryan Krey took every wisdom tooth out with an average of 15 seconds per tooth. Even my impacted tooth was quick.... It was like it never happened. I was surprised to know that this was not everyones experience who had gotten their wisdoms out (with doctors at other places). I didn't take laughing gas or anything so I was well aware of how fast he went. My mouth healed great and the swelling was close to non existent because he made no damage/unnecessary cuts. Dr. Krey is an absolute life saver. Even the uninviting women that work at the front of the office could deter the 5 star rating. I had a cleaning recently done on Friday. Sunday morning I started having extremely bad pains on the right side of my mouth, thinking that it was just sore from my cleaning. Few days later the pain was getting worse, so I called my dentist and they said I needed to see an oral surgeon. I was referred to another oral surgeon. He walked in, shook my hand without even looking at me, and prescribed me a bunch of medication but didn't tell me much about my condition other than all four of my wisdom teeth needed to be pulled out. I left there confused, sad, and frustrated. That night I spoke with my mom, who spoke so highly of Bryan Krey. I then looked him up and saw all the reviews, thinking that I should get a second opinion considering I didn't really know what was going on from my first "consultation." I called the next morning and whoever I spoke with was incredibly helpful, and managed to get me seen by Dr. Krey the next morning at 7 AM considering how much pain I was in. He saw me and thoroughly explained why I was in so much pain. Because my wisdom teeth were fully grown in, he was able to do the surgery within 30 minutes of speaking. This doctor really is as good as it gets. I used him purely off of YELP reviews and am thankful for everyone's glowing recommendations. Dr. Krey is professional from start to finish. We first had a sit down consultation to discuss the extractions of my bottom two wisdom teeth. (btw they sit you down in a super comfy recliner) Dr. Krey was thorough, and reviewed some previous X rays I had taken with my general dentist. He said that based on the placement of the teeth (impacted, and near the nerve) he would go in and remove the tops first, then determine if it was safe enough to remove the rest without risk or complication. I liked this plan, as opposed to just going for it and seeing what happened. The surgery itself I opted for general anesthesia, (didn't need to watch him rip teeth from my face) Sandra set me up with a little laughing gas and lightened the mood with some football talk as I got prepped for surgery. She answered all of my anesthesia questions, including NO, no one has ever died in their office under anesthesia. Dr. Krey entered, and he reviewed his notes from our consult with me before putting me under. I awoke with the wisdom teeth gone and virtually no discomfort at all. The follow up was incredible, I was called later that day to make sure I was feeling okay. I called on Monday in a fair amount of pain, they saw me right away and cleared up the sight to relieve my discomfort. Mike assured me that although my recovery was a tad longer than usual I had nothing to worry about. I've spoken with the office on 3 separate occasions since where they asked how I'm doing. Dr. Krey also contacted my pharmacist to fill a prescription they had lost at 8pm from his cell phone to ensure I got it when I was in need of it. It's not often that I give 5 stars, but Dr. Krey would receive 7, should it exist. I was referred by my hygienist, to have wisdom teeth removed. Rather that taking all four, and charging for services that weren't necessary, he carefully reviewed the xrays, and suggested we only remove 3/4. By the way, I'd had consultations in the past that recommended removing them all. From the initial consultation, one could easily recognize that Dr. Krey is passionate, a normal person, and a straight shooter. I felt comfortable (and not like another number), almost immediately. He took the time to thoroughly describe the process in detail, along with best practices and additionally, he painted a very clear, realistic picture regarding what to expect. The nail in the coffin for me was receiving a follow up call from Dr. Krey this evening, the night of the procedure. He begins in his normal, optimistic voice, "hey Michael, I'm the guy that took your teeth out today".......I immediately smiled, despite the swelling. I am from out of state, currently attending school in California, and I needed some important identification documents mailed to me from my home state to establish residency. Long story short, UPS made a ridiculous mistake whether by fault of the workers or by their processes such that my identity could very easily have been stolen and may well have been. Time has yet to tell. Dr. Krey happened to receive my original documents and exhibited the honesty, diligence, and conscientiousness of a man of good moral fiber in contacting my family regarding the situation. And he had the patience and understanding of having to be interrupted (by me, my family, and UPS) during his business hours such that the problem could easily be managed and hopefully resolved. Dr. Krey is the kindest dental professional I have ever encountered. The first time I met him (for my initial tooth-substitute implant consultation upon reference from my general dentist), I was so surprised but very impressed by his genuine kindness. I was sitting in a comfy lazy-boy type chair in a small, cozy office. I waited only a few minutes. He explained clearly, patiently, and in a detailed manner the upcoming implant procedure I had to look forward to (due to my having to have the original tooth removed by my general dentist for various reasons). I had a few questions, and he was still patient and answered them kindly. No judgment, only encouragement. When I went in for my second visit to have the metal implant screw thing installed, there were several individuals involved with the procedure. There was always an assistant helping out with some portion of the procedure, whether it was prep or during or wrapping up, and I felt fairly comfortable with all of them: Everyone was friendly and patient. I could ask any of them questions, and they were answered. At some point after the procedure, I felt a bit out of it, so they let me lie down on this comfortable cot-bed contraption in a stall(?) or side room without a door but set in the wall a bit, so that I had a bit of privacy and quiet, but could flag someone down as needed. I really liked that little lying down/rest area. My third visit for the check-up months after the procedure took all of 3-5 minutes! Again, just like the first consultation visit, Dr. Krey was kind, patient, and answered my questions. Every time i've had an appointment, I've only had to wait 5-10 minutes tops before being seen. This timeliness is important to me; timeliness impresses me easily. I went for my fourth visit today because the general dentist noticed a potential problem with the area of the implant where she would need to cap with a crown: It looked infected :( Infortunately, I showed up on the wrong day: My appointment was apparently next wednesday! I felt quite foolish. Luckily, the staff and Dr. Krey saw me since I was already there anyway, and it would be (initially) just a quick check. Everyone was pleasant despite my being there on the wrong day and possibly inconveniencing them. The quick check turned out to require a subsequent visit later in the day, which they accommodated since I was already there and I actually live a bit farther away. My experience from the cleaning/fix of the area was per usual: I was taken care of by a friendly, patient staff and kind Dr. Krey. Definitely worth the commute for me from Solano County! read more

Dr. Krey removed all four of my wisdom teeth about two weeks ago, and while I can't say it was a pleasant experience (how can ripping molars out of one's mouth possibly be?) I can recommend Dr. Krey and his office wholeheartedly. Everything and everyone there gave me confidence that this was going to be a smooth experience. During the consultation, when they took x-rays of my teeth using one of those giant machines that painlessly scans the outside of your mouth, I had to laugh at the awful and uncomfortable x-ray experience I'd had at my last regular dental appointment. Clearly this office was using state-of-the-art technology and was not stuck in the 70s, like some offices. Dr. Krey himself was incredibly approachable and kind. He answered all of my questions, and unlike so many medical professionals these days, did not condescend to me or try to rush the appointment. The day of the surgery, he personally called my fiance to see how I was faring. Speaking of fiances, he also gets five stars for taking the day off work and for administering vicodin, soft foods and movies during those critical first few post-surgery hours. My only complaint is that I was not prepared for the pain to last more than a week. It's been nearly two weeks, and although I'm no longer taking the heavy pain meds, I'm still taking 4 or 5 Advil a day for the intense, throbbing pain in my jaw. I have no idea what kind of force they were using to extract my impacted lower teeth, but I was feeling seriously eff-ed up for a full eight or nine days. read more

Being scared of dental work does not even begin to explain how I feel. I have been putting of having my wisdom teeth pulled for over 6 years or so, but really like 10. I saw Dr Krey twice for a consultation, like he was going to tell me something new, like "you don't need to have them pulled after all!" I wish! My whole experience was excellent. I had to get my teethe pulled for an upper plate this morning. My dentist Dr. Richard Currotto who's also great, recommended him and I'm so glad he did. I am a huge wimp and the staff was pleasant, warm & friendly, making me feel comfortable every step of the way. Thank god for Dr. Krey! I didn't think they made doctors like him anymore. Had a wisdom tooth go nuts while on vacation abroad (probably because I've been avoiding getting it out for years). I called Dr. Krey's office on a terrible line and the lady I spoke with was calming and patient and helped work me into his busy schedule soon after I got back. In fact it seems like everyone in the office is professional, competent, and also...NICE! On the day of the extraction, Dr. Krey was very kind and explained everything super clearly. He took his time and was so patient--the way one wishes doctors were but the way they rarely are. He has an amazingly calm and reassuring manner. I elected to go with local anasthesia only. So Dr. Krey is definitely as good as it gets! I went in because my hygienist over at Dr. Melinda Chan's office recommended that it was time for me to have my last wisdom tooth pulled. Dr. Krey's staff was all very friendly and showed nothing more then excellent patient care from the moment I walked through the door. I arrived at 3pm and was on my way home by 3:45 with zero pain whatsoever. I even opted to go to work the next morning since I was completely fine from procedure afterward. I didn't even need any over the counter pain medication since I was pretty much fine. I can't exactly speak for any of the other three other oral surgeons in the office, but if you ever need any work done then I highly recommend Dr. Krey. He was even kind enough to give me a call later that evening to make sure I was feeling fine with everything or if I had any questions. I had put off getting all 4 wisdom teeth out for over five years. I was really apprehensive about the procedure but I knew I had to get it done or face some nasty pain and problems down the road. The staff were friendly everyone seemed to be doing their work as usual. From the initial consultation Dr Bryan Krey was relaxed and personable in a reassuring way. He was patient and answered all my questions in a way that I could understand. Next came the actual procedure. My teeth were not impacted so I opted not to go to sleep and just have local anesthesia and nitrous oxide (laughing gas). They do offer a pill for even more sedation which is nice but I didn't take it either. First they put you on the laughing gas and everything gets very slow and relaxed. Next, they administered the local anesthesia in 3 steps, first a numbing agent, second short injections, then waited 5 minutes for those to kick in. Third and last the main injections. Because of the earlier short injections I didn't feel the third injections at all. This was definitely the best experience I've had with local anesthesia to date. After the local anesthesia kicked in and my entire lower jaw and lip were numb the procedure started. Dr Krey explained what he was doing at each step. I was pretty spaced out but understood what he was saying and appreciated him explaining things. Before I knew it the whole operation was finished. Most of the teeth I didn't even realize were being removed. I was surprised at how quick the whole process was. Somehow in my mind I had imagined hours of yanking but it was over in 45 minutes. Overall I came away very impressed with how efficient, capable and friendly Dr Krey and his staff were. If I had known it would be this easy to get 4 wisdom teeth out I would have done it a lot sooner. Thank you Dr Bryan Krey and Berkeley Oral Surgery for a painless, enjoyable experience! Post Surgery: Dr.Krey prescribed me some Tylenol with Codine which I took about 3 of the day of the operation. Not because I was in pain but because I didn't wanna take any chances. I iced my jaw every other 20 minutes right up until I went to bed. I also took Arnica 30C three times a day which is a homeopathic remedy for swelling. The first day after I only took 3 or so Ibuprofen and skipped the Codine entirely. The 2nd day after I didn't use any pain meds and just kept up the Arnica 30C. I'm now on day 3 and completely pain free. I am being careful what I eat. It's true what they say, after a few days of soft foods all you want is a big juicy hamburger with everything on it. read more

My son ALexander needed wisdom teeth out, and we just found Dr. Krey via the internet, as we live in Santa Barbara. Alex was going on a missions trip to Bolivia in 10 days, so it was imperative he get the procedure ASAP. They were kind enough to work him in on a 6:45 a.m. appointment; awesome! He made Alex feel comfortable right away. Alex decided he just wanted 1-2 teeth out under local anesthesia. The day of sx I came up to be with him, and I wanted all 4 teeth out at once to be sure. Dr. Krey was so personable and nice, and we all decided to do the procedure. After peeling Alex off the ceiling, they realized a local was not going to cut it, and amended the plan to sedate Alex to make him comfortable. Glenn was an absolute sweetheart taking care of Alex post=op, as was the surgical nurse (blonde, don't know her name), who was totally on top of a little bleeder Alex had. I would not have known what was normal if I had taken him back to the hotel, so thankful we were still there. They let us stay until he was recovered, and he did amazingly well, with no swelling, no pain, no bleeding at all! Then 2 days later I had gone home and Alex was freaked out to find bleeding. He was all alone with no roommates and very worried. He called Dr. Berger on a Saturday night, and he quickly came to meet with Alex; I couldn't believe how fast he showed up at the office to see him. He reassured Alex and took care of the little clot. I was very moved to see how they sprang into action to take care of my boy. Then Dr. Berger called me from the parking lot to say what a nice boy I had, which was so meaningful and moving to hear, after hearing my boy in distress and being so far away. Great surgical experience and result, but what impressed me beyond belief was Dr. Krey's assistance afterwards. My 12 year old son had wisdom tooth removed. After surgery, as we were leaving office with nurse, my son was still really loopy from anesthesia. I didn't know he was doing it, but Dr. Krey followed us out to car. This practice was recommended by our pediatric dentist. They have the process for wisdom teeth extraction down to a science. The office staff is professional and efficient. The nurse who worked with my daughter her post op. procedures was very chipper (despite the early hour). I chose to go under sleep for the extraction and didn't know that I had to have a ride to my house afterward and my friend and I didn't have a car :( I wish I could remember the name, but I was offered a ride by one of the staff members :) (it was very kind!) Having had a long and truly tragic string of bad experiences with dentists in Berkeley, what a refreshing experience it was to visit Dr. Krey's office. Dr. Krey was exceptionally helpful, funny, sensitive and bright. He actually takes the time to visit with you in a consultation room before doing any work, unlike so many impersonal and rushed offices where any questions are difficult to ask, are often answered incorrectly and inconsistently (as if to get rid of you) and sometimes seem resented. Dr. Krey's office was not like that at all. The work was done quickly and professionally with no pain. Staff also had great communication skills. This was only one visit but I'm very impressed. As a friend and now patient of Dr. Krey's, I can only say that he is absolutely all and more that these reviews say.

After having an absolutely horrible experience getting an upper wisdom tooth pulled with a different doc last year, when I found out I had to have a bottom, fully-impacted wisdom tooth extracted this year, I nearly wanted to cry. Vowing never to return to last year's doc for another butchering, I immediately jumped onto yelp for recommendations for a gentle, NICE oral surgeon. After reading reviews for Dr. Krey, I called to set up a consultation. At the consultation appointment, I was completely impressed by how thorough and informative Dr. Krey was. Previous "consultations" from oral surgeons have consisted of me sitting in a waiting room for 10 minutes while a doctor reviews my x-rays and takes a quick look inside my mouth before rushing me out. Dr. Krey, however, spent time going through my x-rays WITH me, showing me how and why my impacted wisdom tooth had to come out. He even invited my husband, who had accompanied me to the consultation, into the office while he went over everything. When I expressed fears about the pain of the extraction (like last year's extraction), he explained all of my sedation options thoroughly. (I was SO glad to learn it was FREE to get a mild sedative tablet - no needles - and a little of the laughing gas to help you relax!). He welcomed my questions and was very patient. It was by far the best consultation I'd ever had with a doctor. I left the appt feeling confident. On the day of my extraction, my husband accompanied me again (the office requires someone to be there to take you home if you have any sedation) and when it was my turn to head in to take the sedative and wait for it to kick in, Dr Krey invited my husband to come back into the office with me so I wasn't sitting there, nervously, waiting for a sedative to kick in all alone. Dr Krey again went over the procedure that was about to take place before he gave me the sedative tablet. After about 20 minutes, it was extraction time, and after giving me a little laughing gas, they started the procedure. I can remember getting the numbing shots in my mouth... and then "waking up" with Dr. Krey telling me it was all over (so I didn't hear any drilling or feel like my jaw was being yanked out!). I was quite out-of-it as a result of the sedative and came home to sleep it off for a few hours. I woke up and found a missed call on my cell phone from the doctor's office. They had called a couple hours after my extraction just to check and make sure I was doing well. All in all, my experience with Dr.Krey was wonderful - definitely much better than with any tooth extraction procedure I'd ever had (and I'd had two separate extractions with two separate docs prior to this one), and as a result I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone looking for a great oral surgeon. read more

Dr. Krey pulled my 3 remaining wisdom teeth about 4 years ago. He was a model of professionalism and kindness. The procedure went flawlessly and the sites healed smoothly. If you have to go through the ordeal of oral surgery, I don't think you can do better than Dr. Krey. read more
