The service was really good, personable friendly and quick. The food was good but not inventive or amazing as alluded to earlier. We did not do the tasting menu, some iffy stomachs in the crowd. Rabbit, veal chicken and pasta were the mains, the Palermo appetizers to split. Went with the sommelier recommendation, not sure that was the right choice. My daughter loved the simple roast chicken and bride loved the veal chop. Daughters friend had the rabbit and it was great. Maybe my fault didn't do the spleen and lung, now I feel offal. This is clearly a tourist trap. Although the restaurant proudly displays its Michelin stickers, in reality it is selling mediocre overpriced food. You can get much better authentic food at trattorias around the corner in the alleys at much better prices. The menu is surprisingly limited, offering very few choices, while the "dishes of the day" amounted to a single, unimaginative option. (At real Palermitani restaurants the "plates of the day" are a list of specials with fresh ingredients--not here). The wine selection was equally underwhelming and overpriced with a very stingy pour. The biggest disappointment was the degustazione appetizer. For 20 euro they served a small plate of very ordinary street food (caponata, overcooked tuna, re-warmed panelle)--nothing memorable, nothing that showcased local tradition or exceptional ingredients or any elevation or unique twist. You can find these same dishes throughout Palermo for a fraction of the price, fresher, and better quality. What makes this especially frustrating is the pricing. By Palermo standards, the restaurant is extremely expensive, but there's little on the plate or in the glass to justify the premium. It feels as though you're paying for the Michelin stickers on the door rather than the quality of the food. You will see there are no locals here, only foreign tourists steered here by their hotel or guidebooks. Overall, this was a disappointing experience. If you're looking for authentic Palermitan cuisine, generous hospitality, and good value, there are countless restaurants in Palermo that deliver all three far better than this one. read more

I can only do red sauce in Italy!! I'm not red sauce person but Buatta changed it for me. I finished everything! Husband pasta was pretty good too. We enjoyed the apps here and since the one we picked had a lot of seafood, our server was mindful of separating the shell fish and serving in a separate plate because of my shellfish allergy. My BFF visited Palermo several months ago and came back raving about their amazing experience at Buatta.  She said that their dining experience was stellar, and that this place is frequented by mostly locals (who usually know where to find good food in their own city). When we decided to go to Palermo on vacation, I made a point of making a reservation to visit Buatta, and I'm VERY glad I did! Tip: All the ingredients for the food served here are sourced from the local market; they use special flour when baking their bread, and all the food tastes exceptional! The house-made pastas we selected were amazing, the Focaccia bread was Heavenly, and the black pork was delicious and incredibly flavorful.  The services was exceptional, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable given the extremely high quality of the food.  There's no question that we'll return the next time we're in Palermo! read more

Im shocked they have a Michelin star, the food was average. But the service was terrible, even by European standards. We waited 25 min to even see a waiter/order water. The food was okay. My spouse picked this spot because he wanted to try the 5-course tasting menu. We were greeted immediately and seated outside. They didn't have any wine pairings for the tasting menu which we thought was a big miss. We had high hopes because the first two courses were good, particularly the soup with tomato water. Fantastic and my favorite! A too-al-dente-for-me pasta dish and then a beef tongue dish were clear misses. The granita at the end was a limp to the finish. A disaster - don't go no matter what your hotel says!! This place not only has a limited menu and poorly presented wines but after dealing with the rude and unresponsive staff you won't want to eat or drink anything. Although it is usually hard to find a bad meal in Sicily this place came through. My husband and I went to Buatta for our last meal in Sicily before our flight home at the suggestion of the hotel manager. It was OK. The menu is simple and offers options for carnivores, pescatarians, and vegetarians. Because of my numerous food allergies, I asked the waiter about what I could eat on the menu. Since options were slim for me, I asked if the kitchen could make one of the items without chili flakes. I was told no, everything was pre-made. However, he walked me through potentials and settled on the cheese/chickpea dip which was pretty good, particularly with the bread that was brought to the table. I also had a chickpea soup that was thankfully made with no potatoes (a rarity) and pasta. For the entree, I had fried cod, which was well-prepared. My husband also enjoyed his pasta dish. We stumbled on Buatta this evening without looking at reviews and wanted something near our hotel and this place happened to be around the corner. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and we got a wonderful table outside right in front of the restaurant so we could see inside as well as people watch. Service was marvelous: they brought some small pizza bread right away with Marsala wine which is a nice touch when you're having dinner. The waiters were friendly and the food was well paced. We had a sampler we split and my husband had the swordfish and I had a delicious pasta with beans, veggies and shrimp. It was delicious like a cassoulet almost. We split a cannoli. This was a wonderful experience in every way and I'd return. All the food we are here was absolutely on point. read more

Wine was excellent but that was about it. We ordered the 8 course "bib gourmand" menu. It was limited to 3 dishes with the same over cooked fish in different appearances, and unsatisfying pasta. If you're here as a tourist don't fall for the Michelin stickers posted all over their window. My girlfriend: it's really not that bad. Kind of annoying they served the same fish three times, but other than that, it was pretty good. Everything besides the fish was well prepared and the cannoli was bomb (if you're into ricotta which you should be). The local wine selection is excellent as well, as is the service. Raw and salty pasta were completely inedible. We were fooled by their Michelin recognized sticker and the many other highly rated restaurant stickers on the front door. I am not sure how they could have gotten those. It was the most expensive meal we had in Palermo and sadly it was the worst. I still cannot believe that the pasta was raw hard and crunchy on the inside. I expect this from American restaurants but not one in Italy. Tourist trap, don't waste your money here. And don't let the stickers on the front door fool you. We had excellent food everywhere else while we were in Palermo. Try anything but here. Service though was good. read more

After searching Palermo for a delicious dinner, I chose Buatta for its interesting dishes and it's initially helpful staff. Then I was seated in a sweltering corner and ignored for most of 40 minutes. A couple of waiters were helpful but the female staff seemed overwhelmed and one waitress was rude. I will have dreams about my meal at Buatta. From the outside we thought it looked very nice but probably didn't offer authentic food, boy we were wrong. I had the best eggplant parmesan and a spaghetti with fried zucchini. Topped it off with some wine...it was such a good meal. The ambience was lovely and felt the pricing was fair. Nice atmosphere and deco, friendly staff, quick service, good wine! We particularly appreciated the mixed appetisers, which gathers the most typical Sicilian antipasti. We took meat and fish secondi piatti. They were good but nothing incredible though. We expected maybe a bit too much from that restaurant. Tasty food. Service leans relatively good. Artichoke salad was the number one favorite, and the macchiato was my favorite one yet.
