I have food allergies so choices are always limited. The service was very nice: Friendly and professional. The server was thoughtful about what she could recommend based on my allergies. I've lived in the area for years and never tried Bubbakoo's because of sticker shock. But today they had a BOGO for the chicken bowl or burrito and I had errands nearby, so I gave it a shot. For $6.50 a bowl, the food is acceptable. To use a modern colloquialism: it's very mid. I liked the pineapple salsa. The chicken is okay, the chunks are decent sized. Portion however is a joke. The main issue is that there is NO WAY I would ever pay regular price for this. $13 each for this is outrageous. And that's without chips and guac. That would put it over $20 Last week Salsa Fresca had a similar deal and the food is better, the helpings are bigger, and they give you chips and salsa. No such courtesy here! You would need to fork over $4 more for that! In my opinion, this place isn't worth it. I'm half expecting a response to this from the owner in an attempt placate me with phoney customer service to look like they care, but the best way to do that is reevaluate your prices and stop trying to squeeze every dollar you can from your customers. I was really excited to try this new place. We placed an order ahead and I'm glad we did because the place was super busy. I really wanted to love my food but felt like there was a lot I was missing. I ordered the bowl and online, there are so many toppings they don't offer without an additional charge which doesn't seem right. I'm wondering if they need to work the kinks out with their ordering platform. When I got the food, the portion was definitely very large but the problem was flavor. Everything seemed like it needed to be kicked up a notch and tasted kind of bland. The ingredients could definitely use some more seasoning and I really missed toppings like sour cream and many others, requiring an additional charge. Have been here a few times and always a great experience! My son says the atmosphere isn't pretentious like a well known similar type food chain, and is made for "someone like him", and if we lived closer is a place and and his friends would visit often and even try to get a job there. The staff is always super friendly and even apologizing that my food wasn't ready when I was 5 minutes early! I love that there are so many options-burritos, bowls, tacos, etc. everything I have gotten has been great and tasted fresh. On the menu they have a bunch of various meat options. So you are probably thinking they have various meats marinated and cooked in certain seasonings and sauces. Nope! The truth is they have the usual options then they have different sauces they add to the meat when you order it. Seriously this is not sriracha pork! This is your typical shredded pork with sriracha sauce added to it!!!! Not even some special formulated sriracha that blends well with the seasonings in the pork. They use Huy Fong, you know the one. It has the green cap and rooster on it. They don't hide it. You order like Chipotle. "Yes I would like the Mango chicken". They then take the same chicken they use if you just ordered "chicken" then throw it in a bowl and mix it with a mango sauce. No additional cooking or wizardry. It's a just a gimmick. Seriously they could just add that sauce at the end. Why are they mixing it in a bowl? It's just odd. Seriously just put the meat in the burrito then add the sauce into the burrito like a normal human. Why do we need to make a production out of this?!? This was my first time trying this place. I ordered dinner off of DoorDash tonight. I've had a lot of taco salads from different places over the years. This was, by far, my favorite! It was very tasty and had lots of chicken in it. The Buffalo sauce was SO GOOD. When I've ordered taco salads from other places in the past, it honestly wasn't that good and the taco shell bowl always gets soggy before I even get it. I found it to have a lack of flavor, although it was filling. I got the food here in comparison to Chipotle and I do find Chipotle to be better although similar. The service was quick and satisfactory. I order my food using DoorDash, and it arrived within about thirty to forty-five minutes (I live about twenty minutes away). I ordered on the app today. Estimated pick up time was 6:03 and I waited in the restaurant until 6:30 having to speak to 3 rude workers to actually get my food. As soon as I got home the food was cold, sides were missing, and special instructions were not followed. Not to mention the fried Oreos were hard and inedible. The line was long and very slow moving. You get the the line they ask you what you want. People or leaning over each other to make orders one lady wasn't wearing a hair net or hat. They start to make my burrito and just clump down rice and toppings with what looks like an ice cream scooper. They then move down the line for toppings. Again same lady reaching across people. Two of the burritos rip before they can even wrap them. So rather then rewrap them they double wrap them. Not a big deal. So 3 burritos 6 pieces of boneless wings and chips with Salsas 60 dollars !! I was a little taken by the price but ok. Get home take the first bite of the burrito just rice and beans no meat. Almost half through the burrito before I get any of my chicken. So called general chows chicken isn't even really good, they take fried chicken fingers cut it up and spray some sauce on it !! The other burrito was shrimp same thing !!! Half way into before you find shrimp. Even on the third burrito same thing. Someone needs to teach them how to make a proper burrito especially at these prices. Chips and Salsa were ok guess you can't screw up that. The Boneless chicken wings were the only reason I gave them one star !! They were really good. Other the place is over priced over hyped and probably won't be back !! Hopefully the manger will see this a refund my money !! Total disappointment !! In a world of "build your own" places, Bubbakoo's carves out its own niche from Moe's Southwest and Chipotle. They offer more than just burritos and bowls and never skimp you on the ingredients. I made a specials trip to try Bubbakoo's in Poughkeepsie as an alternate to Chipotle in Fishkill. Was intrigued by the similarities of the menu and format and was looking forward to trying this place as is much closer to my home. To be fair with my comparison, I ordered an identical item to what I usually had gotten from Chipotle. (Burrito, white rice, grilled chicken, queso, sour cream, guac and salsa). One nice pro is that there are more menu items and condiments available than Chipotle (loved the cilantro and jalapeno options!) Looked promising. I started my ordering process and peaked into the bins containing all the food for the assembly of the menu items. Noticed right away some bins empty or near bottom. Asked for extra white rice and the young girl behind the counter seemed concerned to just smear on a measured amount. I say smear because as I found out, the rice was VERY gummy and without any flavor. Also the queso bin was pretty much empty and my burrito maker kept scraping the bottom and side to try and get a partial ladle full. It was very thin and soupy looking. towards the end of the line I asked for guacamole and saw it was being dispensed from a plastic bag (like a pastry bag). This caused another young lady who was finishing my order to have difficulty measuring out the guac. This is a presumption, but the staff seemed overly concerned about making sure to only supply the exact amount of product. Paid for my burrito and left. Ate it for lunch when I returned home. It was just ok. Not bad. The most notable thing in comparison to Chipotle is that Bubbakoo's burrito lacked FLAVOR (mostly with the queso and white rice). Although quality seemed decent, was not up to the level of Chipote. Cost was about the same. In short, fairly quick service, just an ok burrito (meh), nice employees (although quite young and seemingly nervous to make an error). OK prices. Not bad quality. Having this one experience I believe if I really was in the mood for a good burrito, I would likely skip Bubbakoo's and drive to Mexicali Blue or further on to Chipotle. read more
