I used to love this place - went today, my 1st time since it changed hands. Everything is different. The ambiance, the presentation, no more guacamole made at the table, and the meals we had SUCKED. My relleno was soggy and tasteless amd covered in a red sauce that reminded me of Ragu. Rice was tasteless and the refried beans were wet like a soup. Horrible! I couldn't tell who my server was because they switched up so many times. Drinks were never refilled. The only thing that was still halfway decent was the salsa. I will never be back - I paid $60+ tip for a very disappointing dinner. I ended up throwing the majority in the garbage. read more

Our rating is a 3 which is actually hard for me to write. We have been stopping at Maya Cafe for probably 15 years while driving back and forth to visit family. It has always been a real treat (5 stars) and something we always looked forward to. We stopped today and my partner knew pretty quick - the place had changed hands. We were the only ones eating there when in the past it had always been busy. The food just wasn't the same. For example,the tacos of the past were served in corn tortillas that had been grilled with crisp edges - something we loved. Today they weren't. The sides were skimpy and prices were high. I will say that our server was pleasant and the food came out quickly. After we left, I read some yelp reviews and see that we aren't the only ones disappointed with the changes. I truly hope the new owners read these reviews and take steps to get this wonderful place back to what it once was. read more

This was my favorite Mayan restaurant. It's complete crap now. So sad. It must have changed hands. The beans are fresh out of a can. The rice old and dry. Ordered the Cochinita pibil it was tuff and dry and had tomatoes... not Mayan pork for sure. Also ordered shrimp dish that was flat, 5 shrimp a scoop of old rise and some canned beans. I have to say a bit disappointed. We come here every year for my birthday and many other nights out and it is not the same. So sad to experience. My chimichangas were not even crispy, the guacamole was off and not presented table side anymore. My margarita didn't come with the refill nor was I asked for a refill. This is my first yelp review. Sold to a restaurant group and it shows, only thinking about the bottom line. This place used to be packed as well. Another visit to this good, local Mexican place. Always packed to the gills, upon entry we gave our name & then sat at the bar having a couple Margaritas before called to our table. Bar area- bartenders were clearly overmatched. Very, very slow & you can't move your tab to the table (boo!). Next we were finally seated (about 25min wait) and had a great meal, with a tremendous waitress. Ambiance is a little rundown, but the food is excellent. Overall this is a really good night out, topped with some really tasty food. If they can improve the bar service & maybe upgrade the interior a little this place would be an easy 5-Stars, but for now, they get 4 from me. read more

I've driven past here 100's of times over the years and somehow never dined at Maya Cafe until yesterday! It was delicious! The service was friendly and prompt; the waitress gave me a great recommendation (Maya burrito), and that, along with the amazing hot sauce they serve in Corona bottles, was awesome. I was going to take some home, but ended up devouring it. Also, the sour cream had some herbs or something in it, and I really like that as well. Cafe Maya is an ever popular Mexican restaurant in Fishkill, NY with a wide variety of Mexican and Mexican-American dishes served in a family environment. The restaurant space is pretty large and they do have a nice sized parking lot. If you are going on a weekend for dinner, you can almost certainly expect there to be at least a little bit of a wait. In addition to the wide variety of dishes, they also have a rather extensive drinks menu with a whole assortment of margaritas. This visit, I decided to go with the enchiladas. They were tasty and the sauce was very well seasoned. The beans and rice that came on the side were fantastic too. Out of any restaurant in the area, this is the one that I've frequented the most in my life. I've celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, life milestones etc etc with my family and friends here countless times. The owners(brothers) at both locations always make us feel like family, and make the entire experience warm, fun, and overall phenomenal. What in the world happened to Cafe Maya?!?!? Everything has changed, and for the worst! I recently came in, looking forward to their usual amazing food. We ordered guac for an app, it wasn't even mixed and creamy. The guacamole was clumps of avocado topped with tomatoes and onion. We needed to mix it at our table just to eat it! Salas, when it finally arrived was loaded with pepper. Yes, pepper - not pepper, table seasoning pepper. Tasted awful!! Our plantain appetizer was over cooked and rock solid. Drinks were so bad we needed to send them back, and to top it off they moved us after we were seated to make room for a bigger party. This would have been fine, but they offered to give us a free drink for the inconvenience. Well the check came and they billed us for our "free" drink! This places was a huge surprise to my family! We were in the area at the end of June and pulled in to avoid the fast food places in the area. The food was absolutely delicious and filling. The portions were big and the food seemed authentic. The staff was friendly and helpful. We liked it so much that we are planning to go back for brunch. The only failing was dessert. We love Cafe Maya as it is known for delicious food and friendly service. We came on a Friday night as a party of 5. One person in our party was running late, but we asked to be seated so we can start ordering drinks and apps. The manager refused to seat us at the table until the fifth person comes. We tried to explain that we want to order apps and drinks and she will join us for dinner later. The manager was rude and refused. We were about to leave when she finally agreed to sit us, but only at the table for 4. We were so puzzled. Finally she agreed to move us to the booth. Today I checked Yelp and then their menu and decided to find out. Frankly, they had me at cochinita pibil. I had that dish 10+ years ago at a restaurant in Tarrytown. (Long since closed) I've been in search of it ever since. I got that and a small pozole and my wife got the carne asada. We did takeout and the food was ready fast. Their takeout system was professional, they checked to make sure the order was correct. Everything was prepared to the optimal temperature. The small pozole was a great size to start a meal, it was chock full of pork and hominy. The broth was rich and zesty. They provided cilantro, onions, lime, and tortilla chip strips to add to the soup. The cochinita Pibil was the star of the show. Fantastic portion of juicy pulled pork, cooked in a banana leaf. Great flavor and super tender! My wife enjoyed the carne asada. Each dish was served with a good amount of rice and beans. They also included chips and salsa. I will certainly return! read more

One had black beans and the rest had pinto I didn't know we can specify but I'm glad we had one black bean because I prefer those so I got lucky. It was so much and I had all of it! I was in shock I could finish. They also give chips and salsa for when you take out. They have outdoor dining options Available, looks like plenty of space. This is a place I'd go to if I was really hungry and can finish because I don't think they'd make good leftovers as most of the stuff is saucey and made with tortillas.. They have my favorite sangria. I go out of my way to visit when in town. The food in my opinion is just ok. My normal go to is the carne asada. I love fried cream and I try to get it at all Mexican restaurants that I visit. This one is definitely my least favorite. It seems like once rolled in the corn flakes, the ice cream is not fried. So the corn flake crust is not crunchy and hard to chew. But like I said the sangria is what makes me visit. I always take some to go when I leave, which is a huge bonus. This was my first time coming here since moving upstate and it was way better than I expected considering Mexican is not my favorite. When you walk in it's very open and you get a very positive vibe. The staff was attentive and I didn't have to wait long for anything (from getting sat down to getting the bill). The food was actually very delicious and the servings for some things we're more than I expected. The steak tacos was my favorite, but the chicken and the pork tacos, not so much, the coconut shrimps were super good, light and crispy. The tostones topped with a slice of skirt steak and a spoon of some sort of an aioli sauce was amazing.
